Star Wars The Old Republic - Mandalorians Looks like Lucas Arts and BioWare are starting the campaign to get us all amped for The Old Republic. As they have just placed out a video clip telling the background of the Mandalorians, via a Jedi Star Log and animatics. Telling of their rise and fall and what has become of them currently, also kind of why they have become the bounty hunters that we all know and love from the Star Wars Universe. I have a feeling that we will have more of these in the coming weeks, and most likely covering everything else you can play or kill in The Old Republic. Today is Release Tuesday version 7.7.09 and it brings a few new games into our collection. My favorite (and perhaps I'm a tad bit biased about this) is the Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal (episode 1). The game keeps its predecessors' sense of humor, adventure, and it's complex-yet-simple puzzles. The original VO cast returns as well, as does Michael Land, who was the composer of the previous games' soundtracks. ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls fame, has purchased id Software, of Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake, and Commander Keen fame. The move was surprising, as more people have been questioning who was going to buy Midway rather than who was going to buy id. Daily operations won't change at id Software, “No changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games. id Software will continue to operate as a studio under the direction of its founder, John Carmack.” Soothing news to those following the development of id's next AAA game, Rage. As much as one can be in awe of the Final Fantasy XIII and XIV trailers on the giant screen at Square Enix’s booth at E3, I kept walking around to find something else.  The classic jRPG fan in me jumped for joy at the sight of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.  Already out on Wii Ware, picking up and playing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was like running into a warm hug of an old friend.This sequel, 18 years in the making, tells the story of you, the son of the paladin Cecil and the white mage Rosa, years after the end of Final Fantasy IV.  The great evil of the second moon destroyed by Cecil and Rosa’s party in the original has returned and it is now up to you to stop this evil and return peace to the once quiet planet. Batman: Arkham Asylum One game that seemed to be at every one of the big companies booths, sans Nintendo, was Batman Arkham Asylum. It even had it's own booth show casing it as well as an area in the Warner Brothers booth, with leather restraint chair for those who got to bonkers while checking out this game. Standing outside of the famous Abbey Road, I thought about all the artists that have passed through into stardom. The doors opened to a vintage theater seating, a stage and curtain and giant LCD monitors. The curtains drew revealing Studio 2 made famous by the Beatles. The instruments were cardboard cutouts and we were still in the Los Angeles Convention Center, but as Harmonix began to demonstrate their newest Rock Band offering, it was difficult to not be swept up in the melodies and harmonies of a band as influential as The Beatles. Releasing on September 9th, the disc will have 45 tracks with plenty of DLC to follow, beginning with "All You Need is Love" (time-released exclusive) on Xbox 360 and the entire album, Abbey Road. Oh Bethesda studios you foul temptress. Such little information you give us about your new title has everyone salivating for more! Brink is the new title by Bethesda studios and Splash Damage. These two companies joined forces in May of last year, saying they both "share a passion for creating great games" and they're totally "confident that this partnership will result in even greater experiences for gamers." (Joystiq) Well it looks like the fruit of their labor is coming into view just a few days before the big E3 bash begins. So you have a Fallout 3 on the PS3 but wish you could enjoy the additional DLC that 360 and PC users enjoy. Well soon you will be able to play all the sweet awesome goodness that is Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, and two newishly announced DLC packs, Point Lookout (basically a large open swamp area) and Mothership Zeta (you are abducted by aliens) on your Blu-Ray player that coincidentally plays games. While no specific date has been announced, you can expect Operation Anchorage to hit the PSN sometime late June and The Pitt and Broken Steel to follow about a month apart later. A release date hasn't been set in stone for either Point Lookout or Mothership Zeta, but it has been confirmed that it well be out on the 360 and PC before the PS3. Read More...
