The graphics in Rage are simply stunning, the facial animations and the body language of the NPC's really sold the game for me. Walking up to a person from the side and seeing their eyes look over in an "Hm? Who's that?" and then turning their head to acknowledge my existence. It's the little subtle things in Rage that make it all the more believable.
But the overall experience was a bit of a letdown, a very linear game in a nonlinear industry. I have a bad feeling that id may be still stuck in the past, but on the flip side, is a linear game really a bad thing? I guess I'm on the fence. I was extremely impressed with the driving mechanics in Rage I was expecting them to be crappy to be honest, even the race tracks were a lot of fun for me. I will admit it took me awhile to get used to mainly because I had been playing Borderlands for a long time before hand.
Speaking of Borderlands, a lot of people make an unfair comparison between Rage and Borderlands. "They're both set in a Wasteland." Well yes, they are but it's truly unfair and stupid to compare the two. It would be like comparing Call Of Duty to Battlefield, yeah they're both military shooters but my god could they ever be so far apart? Borderlands has a lot of RPG elements while Rage is simply FPS no leveling up, or talent trees. Just straight run and gun good times with some "missions" which are basically "Hey, go in to some bandit's hideout, kill them and if there is something we need get it."
I guess I went into Rage expecting a truly magnificent story but I should have gone in expecting a great journey. But I'm going to keep it real; the journey is more important than the beginning or the ending. Overall I think Rage is great, a bit too easy for me, even on Nightmare. But I feel it was worth the money.
Rage 2 can only go up.
What did you guys think? Should there have been more of "this" less of "that" more to do? Leave a comment and let me know.
