E3 2011 Impressions: Torchlight II
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 13th of June 2011 - 11:34 PM ]
When I stumbled upon Torchlight during 2009’s E3, I knew I had found something special. Of all the games I came away wowed by during that show, Torchlight was definitely one that stood out in my mind after the buzz wore off. Fast forward to 2011, as Runic Games attempts to make a repeat performance at E3 with Torchlight II. At first glance, you will feel a familiarity with Torchlight II. The art style hasn't changed dramatically, though they seemed to have spruced up some of the textures. Read More...

E3 2011 Impressions: BioShock Infinite
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 13th of June 2011 - 09:34 PM ]
Hidden deep in the back of the 2K Games booth in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, we were led into a room that looked like an old hunter's club room - Animal heads on the walls, old fashioned lamps lighting the room and filled wall to wall with plush leather couches. It was as close to an opening in reality to take a step into Columbia (where Bioshock Infinite takes place) as I could imagine without Elizabeth opening a tear and pulling us through. Before I get into the bulk of the game footage we were shown, which consisted mostly of sky rail combat, let me catch some of you up on the story that is the lead up as well as the background. This is for those just now finding interest in the game. Read More...

Batman: Arkham City Just Got Sexier
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 7th of June 2011 - 06:51 AM ]
So it looks like the rumor about NOT being able to play as Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City is now busted. Submitted for your consumption, I give you a look at a bit of the game play as Catwoman in Batman: Arkham City. Straight from the horse's mouth, A.K.A. Rocksteady, to our eyes. Yes, I know that doesn't make visual sense, but just go with it. It doesn't show any form of Co-Op which leads me to believe that she is either going to have a small portion of the game set up like The Joker did in Arkham Asylum. It may be some extra missions, after game missions added to the game, or it could be similar but added into the main story arc of the game. Read More...

Bringing The Pain Like Max Payne 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 29th of April 2011 - 05:28 PM ]
So I'm confused now. Where are all the "demons" or drug induced hallucinations? For that matter Mark Wahlberg? That was what the franchise was all about wasn't it? The film wouldn't deviate that much would it? I defined the whole Max Payne franchise based on that film as I have never played any of the games before. That is a good reference isn't it? When have video game films ever been that far off from the original source? Read More...

Gears Of War 3 Beta Death Montage
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 25th of April 2011 - 09:34 PM ]
YouTube user "Doominated" was kind enough to capture all the executions found in the Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta. The below highlight reel showcases some brutal, visceral and outright over the top executions ranging from brutal beat downs with bare hands to decapitations via a shield. As I watched this video, I cringed a lot. Not to mention some "OH, THAT'S MEAN!" and other screams of torment mixed in. Read More...

Virtual Reality To An Extreme
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 22nd of April 2011 - 06:55 PM ]
In the pursuit of making games 100% immersive there are an ass ton of gadgets, gizmos and displays to make you feel truly in the middle of the action. That is what the whole motion controller craze and revitalization of 3D is all about isn't it? But no one will rest until you can fully experience the game world as if you were truly standing there and walking around it. That is what gamers enjoy isn't it? Moving around and having all of the game character's skills based on their own motor functions that don't require basic thumb presses. Read More...

Review: Portal 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 19th of April 2011 - 10:02 PM ]
So here we are again, apparently only a few months after the events of Portal (assumed from in-game interactions). Still trapped in Aperture Science. Still being tested. But importantly, Still Alive. Alive and needing a final escape from the insane AI running the facility that is now hell-bent on enacting revenge for what Chell did in the first game. Along the way making a few surprising friends to help your escape and mastery of all the Science that was going on. There is really no way to simplify the story without giving spoilers here. Ah, The Dedication To Gears Of War 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 14th of April 2011 - 03:27 PM ]
You've dedicated your gaming life to Gears Of War, isn't it time to see how much dedication Epic Games is giving to Gears Of War 3? It would be nice to see that they are giving at least a small portion of the same dedication and love. Some of you out there have permanently altered your flesh for the game and franchise, something that I have yet to publicly see from any of their staff. Well below you will see the dedication that the team is giving you. Not to mention a good deal more of the game play and details abound for the multiplayer. Read More...

Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters, Potentially Good Or Flop?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 8th of April 2011 - 06:27 PM ]
Recently I had a conversation with a few people on movie tie-in games and if they could ever be any good. As was to be expected, the conclusion was generally not likely. There have been so many crappy movie tie-in games put out there, most of which to suck more money out of the consumer. But every now and then there are a few that are not just utter crap. For me, they are usually the games that are not rushed to meet a film's release date and TRULY expand on the overall story of the film. To put it short so I can move onto the Green Lantern stuff, I've only really enjoyed the games for the Saw franchise. Read More...

Ah The Mean Streets Of L.A. Noire...
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 7th of April 2011 - 10:26 PM ]
There is nothing like see the dirty underbelly of the streets and police force. It totally gives me the warm and fuzzy feeling in my belly. For once, one of the trailers for L.A. Noire has actually been able to get me to lose some doubt. Well, at least the doubt in how the audio mixes in with the visuals. As I have said before, to me the audio seems just way too high quality when mixed in. Not that either the visuals and audio are bad, but they just didn't seem to meld well. Read More...

Review: Killzone 3
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 25th of March 2011 - 11:11 PM ]
Here we go again. It's time to try and end this conflict between the I.S.A. and the Helghast once and for all. Picking up right after the events of Killzone 2, we are thrust right back into the mix of it in Killzone 3. All to meet the end of saving Earth from the new tech and tactics of the Helghast who are still hell-bent on doing just that. Outside of being a continuation, Killzone 3 is also one of the titles that Sony seems to be relying on to show off their tech and hardware capabilities. So outside of pleasing fans of the franchise, Guerrilla Games and Sony have a lot on their plate as far as expectations. Read More...

Duke Nukem Delayed Again: Much Shorter This Time
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 24th of March 2011 - 09:51 PM ]
Duke Nukem Forever being delayed again is like a nerd with a pocket protector - you know the joke, everyone knows the joke and the best you can muster is a half-hearted smile in one corner of your mouth in recognition the joke even existed. So, the fact 2K and Gearbox went with a more tongue-in-cheek approach to the announcement shows a true effort in good faith to the game and the franchise as a whole. June 14th is not that much longer to wait and I'm certain the extra time will be used wisely. Duke Nukem Forever will be released on XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Read More...

Prey 2 Live Action Trailer
by Corey Dockendorf [ Saturday, 19th of March 2011 - 07:57 PM ]
Bethesda Softworks announced this week Prey 2, and the teaser will make you think twice about putting your cell phone on airplane mode. Prey, which was released back in July of 2006, was originally developed by Human Head Studios. Prey followed the sci-fi adventures of Cherokee Domasi "Tommy" Tawodi. The general story was that he, along with Girlfriend and Grandfather, were beamed up to an alien ship known only as The Sphere. The Sphere has this whole Galactacus complex, as it devours all materials, living or inanimate from our tiny blue planet. Read More...

The E.Nigmas Of Batman: Arkham City
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 17th of March 2011 - 06:38 PM ]
In Batman: Arkham Asylum the Riddler had kind of a small role, even though it was one of the larger side missions in the game. It makes sense when you think about the fact that he didn't physically show up at all in the game. This looks like something that Rocksteady is going to be changing when it comes to Arkham City. At least from the new screens shown below. It is also explained that there will be more than just item collecting missions set forth by the Riddler this time. Read More...

Get Your Art Shown Off At E3 2011
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 16th of March 2011 - 04:32 PM ]
Hey aspiring artist gamers, wouldn't that be amazing? To get you artwork shown off in one of the largest gaming conventions? Too good to be true is what I am sure you are thinking, but again you have your chance to get your art viewed. The submission period for this year's Into The Pixel exhibit is now open and will be open until April 15th. In case you are in the dark about this, Into The Pixel is an exploration and celebration of the art of video games from around the world that is put on by The Academy of Interactive Arts&Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Every year that I have been to E3 they hold an exhibit and cocktail party to showcase the top pieces for all to see. Read More...
