by Michael Camacho [ Sunday, 15th of November 2009 - 04:00 PM ]
Dragon Age: Origins is the latest RPG to come from the well respected developer, Bioware. They have long been known for their deep stories, engrossing characters, and way of involving the player in the game by forcing one to make difficult decisions that affect everything around them. So anyone picking up Dragon Age knows what to expect for the most part, and will not be disappointed. Dragon Age: Origins is a dark fantasy game set in a land, known as Ferelden, where the Blight is at hand, and Darkspawn are quickly taking over. You begin the game as your choice of race and class, and set on your own origin quest. Read More…

When Does Final Fantasy XIII Come Out?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 13th of November 2009 - 04:23 PM ]
So we were all promised a big announcement from Square Enix about Final Fantasy XIII today (11/13/09). I'm sure we all figured it would drop out to us sometime later in the day. Like near the close of the day. But surprise surprise, look what we all get to look at early from Square Enix. A "developer" diary of sorts showcasing some of the action and events from the game. That isn't the only thing this video has though. They also go in to tell about some of the choices they made in visuals, the combat system, and the selection of the game's theme song. Read More…

Review: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 13th of November 2009 - 03:33 AM ]
As I looked at the massive amount of people at my local GameStop that were in line to pickup MW2, it dawned on me, this is the biggest, most anticipated, and what could be the best selling action game of all time. Over 300 people were standing in the cold for some four hours waiting for the same thing. Many of them planned on calling in sick the next day or skipping out on school just to get some playtime in. Many people were reminiscing about COD4 or saying how they played a bunch of COD4 to get psyched up about MW2. Read More…

Runic Games Releases Highly Anticipated Torchlight Editor
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 12th of November 2009 - 03:05 PM ]
This is not a review of the editor, though if you are looking for my review of the single player, click here. The highly anticipated level editor for Torchlight was released on Wednesday night by Runic Games.  Aptly named TorchED, Runic is giving players a chance to really delve into the world of Torchlight and get their hands dirty with as many ember-enriched assets as they can.  The editor is lock-and-loaded with everything in the game and then some.  I'm serious when I say everything. The Microsoft BanHammer
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 12th of November 2009 - 12:21 PM ]
Microsoft announced yesterday that they have banned a very large number (rumored to be up to 1 million) Xbox Live player accounts for modding their Xbox systems and playing pirated games. With the current release of Modern Warfare 2, players are anxiously trying to get online and fragging their friends but it seems Microsoft has other plans.  Microsoft is citing it's terms of service agreement that players agree to when buying an xbox system:Download or use any material sent or provided by another user of the Service that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally shared or distributed in such manner (except as expressly permitted by us). What they could and would do were clearly laid out:Microsoft may, among other things: (a) restrict or limit access to the Service; (b) retrieve information from the original Xbox, Xbox 360 console, personal computer, and any connected peripheral device used to log onto the Service as necessary to operate and protect the security of the Service, and to enforce this contract. by Kevin [ Thursday, 12th of November 2009 - 02:35 AM ]
"Loaded with multi-touch, accelerometer, and 3D graphics, Zune HD makes portable gaming even more exciting. All to the sound of your favorite music. Download free games from our catalog of popular titles like Vans Sk8: Pool Service and Audiosurf Tilt.", says Microsoft's Zune Site. Not one to allow Apple to comfortably situate itself atop the movie gaming market, Microsoft has rolled out some titles for the Zune HD. These titles range from new properties to some existing licenses. One of the advantages right off the bat for the Zune HD as a gaming platform -- and by extension as a mobile device in general -- is that it takes advantage of Microsoft Points. Read More…

Dante To Crash The Gates Of Hell Early
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 11:53 PM ]
So just in case you needed a good intro to your mid-term or final paper on The Divine Comedy, EA and Visceral Games are going to help you out. How? By giving you the events Dante Alighieri had to go through to get into hell so he could make that google map he did. All in Demo form for your chosen system of PS3, XBox, or PSP. Ok, so this won't actually help any of you getting ready for your final stuff in December, but it will give you a nice way to relax after writing said paper. Or a distraction and a good view and feel for the game. Read More…

You Are To Blame For The RE5 Alternative Edition DLC
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 08:57 PM ]
Just to prove that Capcom listens to it's community members, and that DLC seems to be the "wanted" format of the future, the new edition of Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition will be just that, DLC. In case you missed the official announcement, this is the edition that comes with Motion Controller support for the PS3 and about two hours of extra gameplay for the title. It was also originally slated to be a hard copy sale and not a downloadable add-on. When they stated it was going to be a whole new set of discs, this cause some upset for people who have already picked up the game at $60 or $90 and purchased the $5 add-on. Read More…

Visceral Games Is Full Of Heretics And Baby Killers
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 06:32 PM ]
I have been called some bad things in the past, as recent as nine minutes ago. I've received hate letters based on my thoughts and opinions all the time. So it should probably go without saying that the people over at Visceral Games and the inferno team at EA get hit with this just about at often because of Dante's Inferno. Christians are probably going even crazier knowing they have been used for promotions as much as Rick Astley has been on the internet for jokes. But I digress. Read More…

Zelda Still Nothing More Than A Phantom
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 03:06 AM ]
Last week, Nintendo announced that "for the first time" Link and Zelda will team up to save Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. When I first came across this bit of news, I honestly didn't think much of it. Don't get me wrong -- I'm looking forward to the next adventure with Link on the DS -- but after playing it at E3, I have had modest expectations on new gameplay. The more I thought about this new bit of news, the more excited I got. After 20+ years of waiting to be saved by Link, Zelda is coming to the forefront to assert herself as a dominant character in the series. Read More…

Is Digital Distribution the Future?
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 02:51 AM ]
It's fairly safe that we can all assume that the future of movies and game sales is digital distribution. How long the duration will be for it to take over is anybody's guess. It will be more determined by the willingness of people to download a game as opposed to having a physical copy than anything else. Delivery systems like GameTap, Direct2Drive and most notably Steam, have been digitally distributing PC games for years and have been met with success. It seems as though PC players are more willing to buy digital distribution than their console counterparts -- maybe because it's been available longer and they feel more comfortable with it or maybe it's because they don't care about having a physical copy since they can not trade it in anyhow.
