Max Payne 3 details
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 16th of June 2009 - 02:22 AM ]
Wow, the dark brooding hero has put on a few pounds since last we saw him! Max Payne, who is now bald and sporting a pretty fierce beard, is back and in full force and gracing the cover of Game Informer.  Not only that, the guy is addicted to pain killers. Who didn't see that one coming? Max Payne 3 takes place in Sao Paolo, Brazil, with "fully destructible environments". Which means more stuff to shoot at and blow up.  Players will also experience "day and night cycles". Read More…

There are the Madden purists out there, there always will be. I cannot consider myself one of them because for all of the "innovations" EA throw into the Madden games - it will always be the same experience for me. Since EA secured the NFL license, there's been false start after false start for competitors to the gridiron throne. I give all the credit in the world to Blitz: The League and the 2k series for creating some compelling gameplay, but because of either: dated gameplay and graphics, or leaning too much on novelty gameplay, they were never able to achieve the same numbers of units sold. Here's hoping BackBreaker becomes a serious contender. Read More…
Rumor Mill: New XBOX Console to be released in 2010
by Ben Brody [ Sunday, 14th of June 2009 - 01:09 PM ]
You heard right, a new Microsoft console is allegedly on the horizon for Fall 2010, to coincide with Project Natal. Let the name-game begin (to reiterate myself I would prefer XBOX 4 but more on this later) is reporting on something that I touched on yesterday, a new game console. If 1up's reports are to be true, than a new Microsoft console will be released alongside Natal next year. While it won't be a new XBOX, it will be more like an update. Think DSi to DS lite or PSP Go to PSP. Read More…
Jack Tretton = Pissed. Alternate Title, the PS3 Slim is real, now what
by Ben Brody [ Saturday, 13th of June 2009 - 04:40 PM ]
Sure, Jack Tretton was all fun and games (pun totally intended) at this year's SCEA E3 Press Conference, but being pissed in front of several hundred journalists wouldn't serve any good purpose. In a recent interview with CNBC, Tretton, the CEO and president of SCEA, expressed major disappointment in the fact that many of Sony's big E3 announcements got leaked beforehand. The PSP Go!, the PS3 Motion Controller, Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker (the newest MGS for the PSP) and Gran Turismo (also for the PSP, and it should be noted that it had already been announced at the 2004 E3) were all leaked before the conference. World at War’s Map Pack 2 is Released
by Jesse [ Friday, 12th of June 2009 - 08:03 PM ]
Activision has unleashed Map Pack 2 for download on both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. The pack features 4 new maps entitled Banzai, Corrosion, Sub Pens, and Shi No Numa. Banzai takes place in a jungle deep in Japanese territory. Corrosion makes use of a rundown Russian train yard as a battleground. A bombed out Japanese submarine base is the site for Sub Pens. Shi No Numa which is Japanese for ‘Zombie Swamp’ adds a third map to face down the unstoppable zombie hordes. Read More…
E3 Impressions: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 12th of June 2009 - 10:16 AM ]
As much as one can be in awe of the Final Fantasy XIII and XIV trailers on the giant screen at Square Enix’s booth at E3, I kept walking around to find something else.  The classic jRPG fan in me jumped for joy at the sight of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.  Already out on Wii Ware, picking up and playing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was like running into a warm hug of an old friend. This sequel, 18 years in the making, tells the story of you, the son of the paladin Cecil and the white mage Rosa, years after the end of Final Fantasy IV.  The great evil of the second moon destroyed by Cecil and Rosa’s party in the original has returned and it is now up to you to stop this evil and return peace to the once quiet planet. E3 Impressions: Dante's Inferno
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 11th of June 2009 - 08:13 PM ]
Hades went to Hell for Dante's Inferno While there isn't much I am allowed to speak about from the behind closed doors showing of EA's Dante's Inferno, there is a little I can speak on as well as show. Just incase you haven't seen the new trailer or the new shots from the game. All from a mixture of the PS3, Xbox, and PSP versions. Even though the gameplay they showed off was from the PS3 version. The graphics were to crisp to be from the PSP and XBox doesn't have a Square or Triangle button, so I figured it was safe to assume there. Read More…
The Ultimate Gaming Wishlist
by Jesse [ Thursday, 11th of June 2009 - 04:01 PM ]
The inclusion of three Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur IV was a hot button issue that polarized a lot of fans. For some they were an interesting addition to the tale of souls and swords. For others they were cheap, overpowered and had no business being there. Personally, I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I loved having them in the game. I can agree that a little more tweaking should have went in to making them more balanced like most of the other characters in the roster. Everyone knows just how ridiculous fighting against Yoda was, but even still this felt like the truest adaption of lightsaber combat in a video game. Read More…
E3 Impressions: The Agency
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 10th of June 2009 - 08:25 PM ]
From An Actual Bond Villain Henchman Being in the job of henching for someone who will be taking over the globe soon via our orbital space stations (No I'm not kidding), I felt it only right to check out The Agency. Partly to see how this new MMO for the PS3 and PC will handle. Partly to see what SOE is going to be training people to do so we can be prepared for it. Also partly because I just had to turn around after getting hands on with DC Universe Online. I'm a gamer and we're lazy. Read More…
E3 Hands-On Impressions: Torchlight
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 10th of June 2009 - 03:39 PM ]
Squirreled away in the back of the Los Angeles Convention Center’s West Hall during E3, Perfect World Entertainment showed off Runic Games’ Torchlight along with their other Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games.  Only minutes after putting my hands on this little dungeon crawler had I decided this game had no business being in the back any longer.  Torchlight by Runic Games is set as a Diablo-esque dungeon-crawling Action RPG, which is actually a good thing since the people behind it are some of the same people behind Diablo and Fate.  The story is that near the small mining town of Torchlight, a rich vein of ore has been found called Ember. E3 Impression: Final Fantasy
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 9th of June 2009 - 04:07 PM ]
In the land where Fantasy is real, and the Final chapter is never ending, Square-Enix has always been one of the main RPG makers around the world and this year at E3 they left nothing behind. During last year's E3, at the Microsoft Press Conference, Square-Enix dropped a bombshell when they announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be on the Xbox 360 (boooooo…just kidding) and it sparked the ever question of if the system itself can handle a game of that magnitude. Well at E3 2009 Square-Enix showed us all what the game would look like on the Xbox 360 for the first time. Surprisingly enough the game ran fairly well as they even showed off one of the summons from the game for the Press Conference. Read More…
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Ultimate Character Reveal (Luke Cage)
by Jesse [ Tuesday, 9th of June 2009 - 11:42 AM ]
Luke Cage was born and raised on the streets of Harlem, New York where he went by the name of Carl Lucas. Much of his time was spent as a member of a gang known as the Rivals. Over time he came to understand how his actions were hurting his family and chose to better himself by leaving the criminal world and become an honest and decent person. However he was betrayed by a former friend who framed Cage for possession of heroin. After frequent altercations and escape attempts while in prison, Cage was transferred to Seagate Prison. E3 Hands-On Impressions of Brütal Legend
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 9th of June 2009 - 04:03 AM ]
Brütal Legend While Activision tries to file a lawsuit against EA over this property, we who got to go to E3 where also bombarded with this game at the major booths much like Batman Arkham Asylum. Only there was no booth all to itself for this one. Also there was no Jack Black on site pimping the game like he did at the Brütal Legend infomercial pretending to be the Video Game Awards. That all aside, I waded through the line to get my dirty and sinful little hands on this title to give it a good go before the Demo comes out. Granted, it was only my hands and eyes that got to sample any of this game. Read More…
E3 Hands-On Impressions of Batman: Arkham Asylum
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 8th of June 2009 - 11:05 PM ]
Batman: Arkham Asylum One game that seemed to be at every one of the big companies booths, sans Nintendo, was Batman Arkham Asylum. It even had it's own booth show casing it as well as an area in the Warner Brothers booth, with leather restraint chair for those who got to bonkers while checking out this game. You might be laughing, but we had to restrain Church at one point. Well he kind of just hopped into it for some reason, but this is not the point of this article. Read More…
E3 Impressions: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 8th of June 2009 - 09:34 PM ]
A new Mario game was anticipated by the crowd as we all filed into the Nintendo E3 Media Briefing last Tuesday.  Many, including myself, were looking for a new Super Mario Galaxy, which we did receive.  That was not until much later in the show.  Well before that announcement was the announcement of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  More of a party game than a solo adventure, though it could be played that way, New Super Mario Bros. Read More…
