E3 Hands On: Dead Island
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 17th of June 2011 - 10:50 AM ]
If you've followed anything I've written regarding Dead Island on this site, you would know that this is one of the few titles I am extremely excited to play. So you can only imagine my excitement when I was let in on the (as I was originally told) appointment only demo. A demo that focused specifically on the multiplayer/co-op of the tragedy in paradise. What could be better? I'm done gilding the lily here, so let me just take you into the bulk of what I got to see as well as control in Dead Island. Read More...

See How Dead Island Is Going To Handle
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 25th of May 2011 - 05:13 PM ]
So I thought the last video for Dead Island was going to be it before E3. Don't want to show off everything before the major convention now would we? But it would seem that the developers wanted to give Game Trailers a bit more to show off before their big E3 push. The video can be seen below. Before you move off to the video though, I'd like to make my normal comments. So bare with me. Or ignore these words and watch the clip. Read More...

Dead Island Really Showing How Paradise Can Go Wrong
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 19th of May 2011 - 05:57 PM ]
So the original trailer for the game made a huge splash and so did the exclusive behind closed doors showcasing, but for the most part it has been CGI or mostly words showing/describing how Dead Island will handle. While this is still a little bit of the case, we can glean a little more from the below screen shots and new trailer for the game. In fact some of the action shots show quite a bit that can be guessed at. The trailer on the other hand is not as informative, but it does hold a different view of the game world. Read More...

Comparing Silent Hill: Downpour To Alan Wake...
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 21st of April 2011 - 08:48 PM ]
So I was trolling around the net, as I am want to do, and I stumbled across some interesting discussions surrounding Silent Hill: Downpour. Primarily people talking about how the latest screen shots, seen below, are very reminiscent to some of the visuals in Alan Wake. So close to the point where I have seen a few people state that Konami is just ripping off from the game. There is also some people trying to defend the fact that because it looks close it doesn't mean it is a rip off. I would say they are interesting points except for the fact that Alan Wake was almost a blatant rip off of a franchise that was around for years prior. Read More...

Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters, Potentially Good Or Flop?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 8th of April 2011 - 06:27 PM ]
Recently I had a conversation with a few people on movie tie-in games and if they could ever be any good. As was to be expected, the conclusion was generally not likely. There have been so many crappy movie tie-in games put out there, most of which to suck more money out of the consumer. But every now and then there are a few that are not just utter crap. For me, they are usually the games that are not rushed to meet a film's release date and TRULY expand on the overall story of the film. To put it short so I can move onto the Green Lantern stuff, I've only really enjoyed the games for the Saw franchise. Read More...

Let's Take The Dead Island Challenge
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 17th of February 2011 - 09:43 PM ]
Yesterday when the trailer for Dead Island hit the internet it caused a huge sensation. It is quite a brilliant trailer to behold. I did happen to notice two things about it though. The main thing is that it caused so many emotional responses, most in the form of crying or tearing up. I'm not talking just women either before you go there guys. Be it the mixture of the music and the film style or the fact that you are watching something extremely happy being torn apart by flesh eating monsters. It has some impact. Read More...

Green Lantern Hunts Down Those Pesky Manhunters
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 15th of February 2011 - 07:49 PM ]
So just like the Transformers Game, Green Lantern is getting the same treatment with a video game tie-in. A game nicely titled Green Lantern: Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters and looks to be as tied to the film in every way but overall story. At least the below trailer would lead me to believe that it takes place somewhere mid-way or after the story the upcoming film will have. Here check it out. From the looks of it, Hal will already be versed in the ways of a Lantern to fight the threat. Read More...

Review: LittleBigPlanet 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 18th of January 2011 - 10:22 PM ]
Sackboy is back and he is bringing a team of new characters, features and mini-games for the PS3's answer to Nintendo's Mario. Well Super Mario Bros. if you were then allowed to mod the game and pass out your mod to a huge network of players online. If you have not yet heard of LittleBigPlanet or LittleBigPlanet 2 you have been living a very sheltered life. All for no reason as well since the game appeals to a lot more than just you average gamer. Let me break it all down for you in LittleBigPlanet's coined terms for the game. Read More...

Viva La Claptrap Revolution!
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 10th of September 2010 - 07:52 PM ]
Back in early August we mentioned the new DLC for Borderlands, Claptrap New Robot Revolution. It is bring a bunch of additions to the game, as we mentioned, as well as being included in the GOTY Edition, also mentioned. So what new do we have for you? Not a solid release date, but I'm willing to bet on 9/14, 9/21 or 9/28 if 2K and Gearbox want to keep their September time frame originally mentioned. It is, as you've most likely glanced already, a set of new screens and posters for the DLC. Nothing too revealing, but something to make you look at and give a thought about dropping the $9. Borderlands Giving Out DLC For Free
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 31st of August 2010 - 02:42 PM ]
Isn't it always the case now? Everyone is out to make a buck one way or another at the expense of our pockets. The recent price hike for XBL is a good example of that. What you may have missed is the push for Game of the Year (GOTY) or Special Edition versions of games that come loaded with all that expensive DLC pumped out after game launch. Obviously this is simply a play to grab all the people who didn't shell out cash to make sure the DLC was created. LittleBigPlanet and Batman: Arkham Asylum are great examples here of this. Ninjas & Robots Team Up, Nothing Good Can Come Of This
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 12th of August 2010 - 06:11 PM ]
Instead of facing off in a bloody, futuristic main event, like they should have, 2K Games and Gearbox are teaming up to show their post-apocalyptic supremacy over everything. At least that is the premise behind the new DLC for Borderlands - Claptrap's New Robot Revolution. Wait, you didn't know there is some new DLC rolling out for Borderlands? Well consider this a nice little daily double, even though it is all wrapped into one package. /MindBlown I'll give you a moment to collect your thoughts again. Read More...

Review: DeathSpank
by 345 [ Monday, 19th of July 2010 - 06:46 PM ]
DeathSpank is the latest game to feature Ron Gilbert's involvement, famous for creating The Secret of Monkey Island, among other games. Originally a comic strip character featured in one of Gilbert's Grumpy Gamer series, DeathSpank the game can be summed up as a loot game, similar to Diablo. However, the main difference (and gimmick) here is that the story and characters act as a parody to that genre, and the entire game itself is very much based around its humor. While this definitely adds to the charm and style of the game, it ultimately felt like the ironic clichés were too over-the-top and childish. Playing DeathSpank is relatively simple, and the controls are very similar to most any other dungeon crawler made for consoles in the past. Read More...

New PSP Go Promotion Gives New Owners Free Games
by 345 [ Wednesday, 2nd of June 2010 - 01:15 PM ]
A new promotion was announced on the PlayStation Blog yesterday for the PSPGo. Anyone who buys the handheld from now until March 31st, 2011 will receive three free game vouchers. The games included are: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, and Little Big Planet. Overall this is a solid set of games, but unfortunately the SCEA bundle pales in comparison with the SCEE deal, as anyone in Europe who buys a PSPGo gets 10 free games with their purchase. This offer pretty much confirms that we won't likely be hearing about a PSP2 anytime soon, and more importantly it shows that SCEA is still doing an incredibly awful job at marketing the PSPGo in the US. This is evident as there is still no price drop in sight for the PSPGo. Read More...

Review: Lost Planet II
by Kevin [ Tuesday, 1st of June 2010 - 04:59 PM ]
When you start comparing Lost Planet II to its predecessor it seems like it should escape all of the pitfalls of the first title and really offer up a solid single player experience with a rich multiplayer to boot. Aside from technical issues, some slightly questionable AI and level design, it delivers. However, a word of advice: Don't bother playing the game by yourself. LP2 just doesn't seem designed for it. Review: Alan Wake
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 17th of May 2010 - 09:09 PM ]
If you follow me at all on here it should be no surprise that I have not seen much of a difference between Alan Wake and Silent Hill. At least that's my opinion from the viewpoint of the screen shots, trailers and the most recent live action Bright Falls series. I mean, they look so very similar. If you don't think so, then you should have your brain examined. Well, I was just recently able to give Alan Wake a good play through. A really good play through so I could contrast and compare between this new IP and the "older" Silent Hill IP. Read More...
