Someone's Bank Account Gets PWNED
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 31st of March 2008 - 04:00 PM ]
Chimera Skull From Playstation 3 Game TV Ad Sold Don't we all wish we had $2500 dollars just to throw around? I'm calling shenanigans if you say no to that. That's right, Shenanigans have been called. But in any instance, this is an interesting thing that popped up on E-bay. Profiles In History is actually offering up the Chimera Skull used in the PS3 commercials for the Resistance TV Ad, with $2,500 being the low end price for the skull. I know, I was kind shocked when I saw it at first as well, but it seems like a legit offer and not one of those, "I'm selling a picture of..." kind of offers. Read More…
Violent Game "Journalism"
by Aaron BlueWolf72 Molloy [ Monday, 31st of March 2008 - 03:26 PM ]
Newspaper offers cash for anti-games story on MCV reports a new high-water mark for British journalism, as relates an offer from "a national newspaper" to pay someone who is willing to blame their crimes on video games, with the offer of money sure to make this quite the legit bit of journalism: A national newspaper wants your story and will pay hundreds of pounds to the right person. Write a few lines about how computer games turned you to crime and if it's something we like, we'll call you straight back. Read More…

Age of Conan
by [ Sunday, 30th of March 2008 - 10:27 AM ]
In my humblest of opinions, MMORPGs are the single greatest genre in gaming. I consider myself to be quite the MMO-Connoisseur having played Ultima Online, Anarchy Online, Everquest, Dark Ages of Camelot, Everquest 2, Final Fantasy Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Naturally, I am awaiting the impending release of Age of Conan, but what kind of release will be in store for me? As players of the game know, Vanguard was nearly unplayable at release and for quite some time afterwards. Read More…

More Intel On An Elusive Beta
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 28th of March 2008 - 04:53 PM ]
Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 / Online Beta disc I saw this on the IGN boards and thought it would be good to pass on to the rest of Pwned. A user there had just received their Metal Gear Pre-order disc and posted all about what it comes with. I'll save you the time of describing it here and just list it below, but the main tidbit that I know people have wanted to know is about the Beta; the open beta for MGS Online to be more exact. We all know that the disk has a code and such that you will need to input to get the download, but the dates of the beta and when it will be available is new info. Apparently, you will be able to DL the Beta on the 17th of April, but you won't actually be able to do anything with it until the 21st of April. Read More…
How to Tell You're Playing a Game with a Female
by Alyssa Porter [ Friday, 28th of March 2008 - 05:20 AM ]
We all know female gamers exist, especially with the recent rise of female voices in the gaming community, but many people I know claim they have never played a game with a female. I say poppycock; they just do not know how to spot a female in game. Here are a couple of ways to possibly sight a female playing.1. The most obvious – Their VoiceOf course the high pitched voice on the other side of your headset that will not shut up is annoying you, so you might immediately think its an immature pre-pubecent boy, but do not be so hasty to make such a conclusion. Harvard violent games study leaves out girls
by Trina [ Thursday, 27th of March 2008 - 10:24 PM ]
Suzanne Freyjadis-Chuberka has written an excellent post over at DollyMix about a new book called, Grand Theft Childhood: The Surprising Truth about Violent Video Games and What Parents Can do. The book is a study about the effect of video games on young and impressionable teenagers. The study actually is fair in that it addresses why violent video game are not all inherently bad and won't turn your child into a raving mass-muderer. But the search is still on because the study felt it was okay to leave out girls in their research because they didn't feel they could find any. Suzzanne writes that, "In an interview the lead researcher, Prof. Read More…
