Base Jumping In Just Cause 2
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 14th of September 2009 - 09:57 PM ]
I'm nauseous just watching the video. Just Cause 2, which will be release in 2010, is already turning some heads by it's awesome new style of gun toting gameplay. The game is not only beautifully rendered, but it gives such a stunning realism while in the air that players could probably spend all day base jumping off mountains or buildings and be completely satisfied by the gameplay. Honestly it reminds me of Pilot Wings for the Nintendo 64, but with more action, guns, and death from above. Check out the latest developer diary for Just Cause 2 and be amazed by the things you can do with a grappling hook and a parachute. Read More...

LucasArts Announces Lucidity For Xbox Live Arcade & PC
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 11th of September 2009 - 11:20 PM ]
LucasArts today announced their new title Lucidity. The latest Puzzle Game will be available on Xbox Live arcade and PC. Players will play Sofi, a little girl who is dreaming, and as she drifts deeper and deeper into the dream world players will need to keep Sofi safe. Apparently this will be done by putting puzzle pieces in her way to "guide" her where she needs to go. LucasArts plans on bringing more games similar to "The re-imagining of The Secret of Monkey Island" and "Lucidity" to gamers. This is a pretty cool concept. Read More...

Review: Final Fantasy: Dissidia
by Binh Nguyen [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 11:41 AM ]
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine the elements from a role playing game and fighting game? Ever wonder what it would be like to play some of your favorite heroes from the 8 bit, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 days? Well wonder no more, as Square-Enix celebrates their 20th anniversary with the release of Final Fantasy: Dissidia for the PlayStation Portable. Even though this has been classified as a fighting game, it is certainly not for the Street Fighter, Tekken, or Soul Calibur crowd. The controls are really simple and you press the same buttons over and over again, but to learn the timing for each character's attacks to take advantage of the different terrain, makes the game much more interesting. Where Did My Hats Go?
by Stephanie Naboshek [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 02:14 AM ]
Today to my surprise, while chatting amongst fellow TF2 players in IRC, a sudden cry of "NOOOOOOOO!" began to fill the channel. Valve, the developer of Team Fortress 2, had gone in and flagged about 4.5% of accounts for using idling programs. I, being one of these hat hoarders, was also affected and have become quite saddened at the loss of my 2 hats. For those not familiar with the TF2 Drop system, Team Fortress 2 has items such as weapons, hats, and other misc unlockables available to earn at random when you play a server. As such, idling programs became widely popular amongst it's players, me included. Read More...

Review: Batman: Arkham Asylum
by Jesse [ Monday, 31st of August 2009 - 07:17 PM ]
If I’m not mistaken, Batman: Arkham Asylum is the twenty-first video game centered around the Dark Knight. Going all the way back to 1986 and the first game, appropriately titled Batman, I’ve only really found a handful of the games that can be considered at the very least decent. The SNES version of Batman Returns was great as a typical side-scrolling brawling game and of course more recently there was last year’s Lego Batman which was good for a laugh or two. However nothing really captured the spirit of the character, let alone his environment and for the games that tried, they failed miserably. But Batman is one of those characters that people are willing to take a chance on. Read More...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Ultimate Character Reveal (Spider-Man)
by Jesse [ Thursday, 27th of August 2009 - 11:22 AM ]
Spider-Man is easily one of the most iconic superheroes ever created. Since being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker’s life has become a roller coaster ride of mammoth proportions. Living with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, Peter grew up trying to live by Ben’s example of great power and great responsibility. Peter was still a high school student when he first dawned a costume and has gone on to battle against such deadly enemies as Venom, Doctor Octopus, Kraven, and on and on. His most bitter enemy though, the Green Goblin, is a villain who will forever be known to Peter as he was the man responsible for killing Peter’s love Gwen Stacy. Read More...

Pyro Studios Making A New Commandos Game!
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 25th of August 2009 - 03:16 PM ]
Well it's about time...Pyro Studios, creators of the famed Commandos series, is set to release a new Commandos game more in line with the first title in this WWII strategy franchise. How many of you recall the critically low scoring FPS shooter that was Commandos: Strike Force? Yeah, even Pyro Studios was less than enthusiastic about the title. Well, players will be happy to know that this time around they are going to be bringing back all the tactical gameplay that players knew and loved. No word as to how much Commandos publisher Eidos will be involved. Read More...

Time To Clean Up Arkham
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 25th of August 2009 - 01:38 PM ]
Batman: Arkham Asylum - Release Trailer Just in time for the official release date, in North America, come what will be the coolest looking trailer/advertisement for Batman Arkham Asylum to date. Even better than the sing skeleton video they have showing off the Scarecrow DLC you get for pre-ordering at GameStop. Albeit, not as funny, but it is one of the best views of the game that the general public will get a look at before they actually get to pick up the game. Even more so earlier for those across the big blue ocean to the East, they have to wait a few more days to have the Caped Crusader on their systems. Read More...

Hollywood and Video Games: An OpEd
by Ben Brody [ Monday, 3rd of August 2009 - 01:58 PM ]
Two words that should never belong to each other: Movie Game. Let's face it, except for a select few (and let's keep in mind that GoldenEye 007 came out 2 years after the movie did), very few licensed games of a film have been even halfway decent, and yet more and more are coming out. Games from series like Harry Potter and Ice Age have been hits with kids that liked the films, but movie based games have failed to find a home with more mature audiences. Games like Resident Evil, Max Payne and Tomb Raider have spawned successful (Box office wise) movies, yet very few mature movies have spawned successful games. Perhaps it's due to the inherent fact that while in video games, players often feel like they have the freedom to make a choice that will affect how the game turns out. Read More...

Video Games Live Rocks the Queen City
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 30th of July 2009 - 01:13 PM ]
Since its inception in 2005, Video Games Live has been entertaining crowds across the globe.  With its epic scores, great energy and audience participation, VGL promotes the gaming industry in an extremely positive way.  Created by famous video game composers Jack Wall and Tommy Tallarico, the concert series’ agenda of solidifying game music as an art form and the games industry as a positive force are present and spotlighted but are carefully swaddled by the fun, excitement and showmanship.  The first show, in the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, had over 11,000 people and was instantly a phenomenon.  As the first few years have passed, the show has slowly made its way down to smaller cities and venues. Wolfenstein to Sponsor Premiere of Inglorious Basterds
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 28th of July 2009 - 10:36 PM ]
Who better to sponsor a premiere of a movie about killing Nazis than a video game franchise that wrote the book on killing Nazis?  Today, Activision and id Software announced the sponsorship of the "Inglorious Basterds" premiere by the also soon-to-be-released Wolfenstein.  Also included is a contest in conjunction with GameStop with a prize that includes airfare, accommodations, tickets to the premiere and admission to the after-party.  The contest begins today and must be really short considering the premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater is August 10.  I shouldn't really encourage you to sign up for the contest as I have visions of sitting next to Diane Kruger. The Ultimate Gaming Wishlist
by Jesse [ Friday, 24th of July 2009 - 06:26 AM ]
It’s no big secret that I’m about as much into comic books as I am video games, which is saying something. I’ve always felt that comics and video games are natural extensions of one another. That is why it’s easy for properties to cross over so that we have games that have been adapted from comics and vice versa. Marvel Comics is probably the best example of using a comic to create a video game. They have inspired the most adaptions. Read More...
