The Love Child Of Square Enix & Pop Cap Games
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 24th of September 2009 - 09:12 PM ]
At TGS Square Enix announced today, their new Puzzle/RPG named Gyromancer. It's basically a highly addictive Bejewled PopCap game with the RPG fantasy twist from the best in the business. Gyromancer will be available for XBox 360 as well as Steam. Both PopCap and Square Enix have collaborated before, in Japanese games, but this is more of a creative avenue for both teams. Gamers will play a Sorcerer of the Godseye, named Rivel, and traverse through ten different stages, collecting powerful beasts to summon throughout the adventure. Pokemon? Read More...

TGS Fantasies Are Given
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 24th of September 2009 - 07:41 PM ]
As was to be expected in the Final Fantasy Fan capital of the world, Japan, and at the game show specifically in their location, Tokyo Game Show, there is some new eye candy for the franchise. All in the form of shots of the specific Final Fantasy bundled PS3 and a nice shiny new game trailer for Final Fantasy XIV. Something to get the salivary glands overworking for us all that couldn't make TGS yet still wanted to see something from Square Enix. The themed PS3, seen below, is a bit "girlie" if I do say so. Wii HD? Head Of Square Enix Spills The Beans
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 21st of September 2009 - 05:02 PM ]
Well well well, Looks like the rumors are now leaking from the higher up's. During a Fincanial Times interview at the Tokyo Game Show with Yoichi Wada- President of Square Enix, he mentioned that the three platforms (XBox 360, PlayStation3, and Wii) will join the same playing field by 2011. He expects Nintendo will release the new Wii that year which could contain similar features (see HD) as it's competing consoles. Also he made mention of a possible new controller scheme for the Wii system. Since he was in a chatty mood, he also spoke about the rival systems and their adaptation of Motion sensing technology, saying that “Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Review: Final Fantasy: Dissidia
by Binh Nguyen [ Thursday, 3rd of September 2009 - 11:41 AM ]
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine the elements from a role playing game and fighting game? Ever wonder what it would be like to play some of your favorite heroes from the 8 bit, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 days? Well wonder no more, as Square-Enix celebrates their 20th anniversary with the release of Final Fantasy: Dissidia for the PlayStation Portable. Even though this has been classified as a fighting game, it is certainly not for the Street Fighter, Tekken, or Soul Calibur crowd. The controls are really simple and you press the same buttons over and over again, but to learn the timing for each character's attacks to take advantage of the different terrain, makes the game much more interesting. Calling In FFXIII Shots
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 28th of August 2009 - 10:12 PM ]
And look, they were called in. Well at least seven of them. Seven glorious new looks at this highly anticipated game that seems to be forever off on the horizon; teasing all of us in North America or pretty much anywhere that isn't Japan since they do get it this Winter. Those damn Japanese*. These screens show off a little bit of the CGI that Square-Enix is well known for, as well as some of the in-game stuff and combat system. The aesthetics are something that has yet to let me down in any way for this game. I just really hope that the storytelling aspect of the game isn't being hurt at all because they are spending months trying to get the shine and opacity looking perfect in the ice levels. Japan Gets All The Good Fantasies
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 8th of July 2009 - 10:22 PM ]
Final Fantasy II Released on the Japanese PSN So, two weeks ago the original Final Fantasy was released on the Japanese PSN. Japanese fan boys and fan boys with a Japanese PSN account were rejoiced. But us non-JPSN having fan boys are still left out waiting for it to release in our region. Hint Square-Enix Now it looks like we have even more to be waiting for or considering skirting the system with GTranslate open next to us. Today on the Japanese PSN, they are all welcomed with the second, the actual second, game in the franchise. Outside of Japan, we think number four is number two. Read More...

Finally The Original Fantasy
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 24th of June 2009 - 10:24 PM ]
Final Fantasy on PSN Soon As if there hasn't been enough awesome Final Fantasy going about the interwebs since E3, Square-Enix drops some more good news for all of the FFFreaks (F3 from now on). Not as cool as a full on remake of FFVI for the PS3, or FFVII remake either, but today on the Japanese PSN "the game that launched a billion spin offs" was made available. I'm talking the original Final Fantasy. The PSOne upgrade version at that. Read More...

XIV Before XIII?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 22nd of June 2009 - 09:47 PM ]
Possible Beta Schedule For Final Fantasy XIV Let me say this here: This is speculation based on career board finding and nothing official. The same goes for any site that isn't as courteous as Aggrogamer to state this. Now that is out of the way. One of the big shockers at E3 this year was the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV Online. At least as far as the Sony briefing went. But it looks like there might be something else out there to excite and entice fans of all things Square-Enix. Read More...

E3 Impressions: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 12th of June 2009 - 10:16 AM ]
As much as one can be in awe of the Final Fantasy XIII and XIV trailers on the giant screen at Square Enix’s booth at E3, I kept walking around to find something else.  The classic jRPG fan in me jumped for joy at the sight of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.  Already out on Wii Ware, picking up and playing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was like running into a warm hug of an old friend. This sequel, 18 years in the making, tells the story of you, the son of the paladin Cecil and the white mage Rosa, years after the end of Final Fantasy IV.  The great evil of the second moon destroyed by Cecil and Rosa’s party in the original has returned and it is now up to you to stop this evil and return peace to the once quiet planet. E3 Impression: Final Fantasy
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 9th of June 2009 - 04:07 PM ]
In the land where Fantasy is real, and the Final chapter is never ending, Square-Enix has always been one of the main RPG makers around the world and this year at E3 they left nothing behind. During last year's E3, at the Microsoft Press Conference, Square-Enix dropped a bombshell when they announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be on the Xbox 360 (boooooo…just kidding) and it sparked the ever question of if the system itself can handle a game of that magnitude. Well at E3 2009 Square-Enix showed us all what the game would look like on the Xbox 360 for the first time. Surprisingly enough the game ran fairly well as they even showed off one of the summons from the game for the Press Conference. Read More...

Fantasy Demo Finally
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 15th of April 2009 - 06:34 PM ]
Final Fantasy XIII Demo While the official release date for the Demo for FFXIII isn't slated until, well today in Japan (3amish on the 16th as of this post), it didn't stop some people from getting their copies a bit early. Which of course doesn't stop them from taking screen shots and post video of the game online. Huzzah interwebs! Of course these are going to only be the first of a flood now that the new Advent Children bundled with the Demo has dropped. Read More...

Fighting The Stills
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 30th of March 2009 - 08:02 PM ]
More Screen Shots Of Final Fantasy XIII While there is no confirmation on when the US will get their version of the FFXIII demo, the Japanese got one with the re-release of Advent Children, and only rumors of such a thing, what are we outside of Japan to do? Outside of try to find videos of the demo on youtube, or fuzzy screen shots of said demo, or poor translations from blogs about said demo, or well I could go on and on but I won't. But hopefully you get the point there. Well we are kind of in luck if the "Special Look" at FFXIII on the BluRay US version of the game turns out to be just another trailer for the game. Read More...

Wii DLC for the Week of 3/2
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 4th of March 2009 - 03:58 AM ]
After a big week last week releasing four games, Nintendo gears back down to its normal conservative self.  This week in Wii DLC we have a game for everyone and a game for one.  For everyone in your household we have Gammick Entertainment's Family&Friends Party.  After searching their site extensively and finding no trace of the game, I had to rely on on Nintendo's exciting trailer.  You may not have family or friends to play with when they find out you spent 1,000 Wii Points on this game.On the flip side of the coin, on Virtual Console, is another Square Enix RPG from the Super NES days: Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen.
