Zelda Still Nothing More Than A Phantom
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 10th of November 2009 - 03:06 AM ]
Last week, Nintendo announced that "for the first time" Link and Zelda will team up to save Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. When I first came across this bit of news, I honestly didn't think much of it. Don't get me wrong -- I'm looking forward to the next adventure with Link on the DS -- but after playing it at E3, I have had modest expectations on new gameplay. The more I thought about this new bit of news, the more excited I got. After 20+ years of waiting to be saved by Link, Zelda is coming to the forefront to assert herself as a dominant character in the series. Read More...

Nintendo DLC For The Week Of 11/2/09
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 2nd of November 2009 - 11:34 PM ]
When I looked at the list of downloadable content this week for Nintendo, I was shocked to see eight titles listed for the three "platforms" available. For so long, the Big 'N' was releasing one title a week on each platform: WiiWare, DSiWare and Virtual Console. Many people, including myself, asked why Nintendo was holding back, especially in light of the fact that first party titles haven't exactly been busting down retail doors in a short period of time. Unfortunately, when looking at what the public received, you begin to understand why the big push. Looking at the DSiWare selections this week, your attention is drawn immediately to the first party photo application, Sparkle Snapshots. Read More...

Review: Borderlands
by Kevin [ Thursday, 22nd of October 2009 - 09:00 PM ]
Borderlands Review: A Cell Shaded Grind Loot. Every role playing game experience has it in abundance. It's the life's blood that drives a player to move forward. For that next precious piece of armor, that dominating piece of weaponry, or that elaborate spell scroll with it's twenty minute animation sequence. It's what the love-hate relationship of most RPGs is based on. Why I had so much fun with Borderlands in spite of this is due to the fact that Borderlands is using the RPG mechanism to compliment the existing FPS experience and not trying to cram it down the player's throats. Review: Exo-Flex Skins
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 8th of October 2009 - 06:25 PM ]
We as gamers are always looking for a way to stand out and be original so we can be identified in our virtual space. Also most of the time in our real world presence as well. Be it clothing, cosmetics, or skinning and modding our PCs, consoles, and the controllers that go along with them. Sometimes as basic as a few stickers and others as extreme as a full metal shop built Alien case for a PC. But sometimes we gamers either lack the tools or capabilities to build something that expresses our inner selves on our gaming gear. That's where companies like Exo-Flex and their artist step in and offer up full case stickers and decals for us to slap on and be original. Read More...

Activision Releases More Track Lists for Band Hero
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 1st of October 2009 - 07:47 PM ]
There comes a time when you realize there are certain products are just not for your demographic anymore. Maybe it was when you were hitting puberty and realized that while you may still like Saturday morning cartoons, the commercials annoyed you rather than interested. Or perhaps you tried to watch The Tonight Show before Jay Leno was replaced and realized every joke was for the geriatric crowd. Reading today's press release from Activision really demonstrated to me that while I may enjoy rhythm games, Band Hero is not being marketed to me. Band Hero is the long lost love child of Guitar Hero: World Tour and High School Musical. Read More...

Nintendo DLC For The Week Of 9/21/09
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 22nd of September 2009 - 05:39 PM ]
Another week of download releases by Nintendo means another week of low-hanging fruit for criticism on the choices for DSiWare downloads. Also included in this week is another Commodore 64 game for Virtual Console. At this point, I wish there was a defensible position to take on some of these choices for DLC. We have five releases this week across the three platforms. The lone Virtual Console title, Last Ninja 2, is from the Commodore 64. Read More...
