Aggrocast Episode One Hundred Two: Looking Forward to Fall
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 17th of August 2012 - 06:27 PM ]
You are shocked. Brian, Corey and Matt return to the Aggrocast after only one week. Topic for this episode is looking forward to the fall release lineup. Yes, the guys promised to do it quarterly, but why not just have one good blowout episode with our excitement abounding for games like Assassins Creed III, Far-Cry 3, Torchlight II and Halo 4. The guys also spend a few not-so-quiet minutes revisiting last week's debate on Facebook games. While you're listening, don't miss out on Whatcha Been Playing, the Community Spotlight and another 5-question Care / Don't Care. Read More...

Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the community. My name is Todd Naevestad and I am the newest member of AggroGamer's writing team. This little article is to tell you a little about myself. Let's get right to it. I am a student still, entering my junior year. I am training in professional writing. I have a love for words and telling stories. Play The Walking Dead For Real At Comic Con
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 08:37 PM ]
So by now you've most likely played Telltale's The Walking Dead, read the comic or seen the show. If anything you at least are interested in the zombie apocalypse scenario. Well here is something that those interested in any of those things mention will find pretty damn awesome. If you are at San Diego Comic Con next week you will have the chance to actually play "the game" for real. The game being that of surviving in a world where the dead have escaped the Underworld and are coming for your flesh. This isn't some small obstacle course set up as fun for promotions either. My Top 20 Favorite Video Game Tracks Of All Time
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 25th of June 2012 - 06:53 PM ]
Since we do a lot of standard news and reviews on Aggrogamer I think it's time we get a little personal. I am a huge fan of music. I love listening to it and I most certainly enjoy creating it. So here are my top 20 all time favorite themes from a video game. Enjoy. Note: the first 15 are in no specific order but the top 5 are in order of epicness. Spider-Man&Venom: Maximum Carnage - "Carnage Rules" An epic opening to one of the best Spider Man games of all time Serious Sam: The First Encounter - "Fight 5" When this song pops during an epic fire fight in Serious Sam, your adrenaline surges through your veins as you enter "The Zone" Mirror's Edge - "Kate (Puzzle)" I loved Mirror's Edge and this song was so soothing and relaxing. I still listen to it a lot. Read More...

The State of Gaming: Publishers
by Fred Buell [ Wednesday, 30th of May 2012 - 10:18 PM ]
You all may have noticed lately the onslaught of things like Online Passes, On-Disc DLC, and DLC that have been announced and made before release. Many of you may be under the impression the publisher/developers are just being greedy and trying to squeeze out every penny from you. What you don’t know is the inner-workings behind the scenes. The publishers are losing money this gen due to higher cost of development, and lower economies. They also have long standing arrangements with stores like GameStop where if a game flops they will buy back the product at full price or eat the cost and make zero money back if the store decides to price cut it down to move inventory. Review: The Walking Dead: Episode 1
by Matt Waitt [ Thursday, 26th of April 2012 - 10:02 PM ]
Developed and Published by Telltale Games this episodic game takes place within The Walking Dead universe. While some characters share the names of those in the comic and TV show, it is a whole new story. The Walking Dead is a point and click game with "precision" quick-time events. Instead of simply hitting a button you have to aim in a specific spot and then hit a button. I sat down to play The Walking Dead expecting a quick little hour or so session but I soon found myself sucked in to the characters and their story. I actually finished the game in one session. by David 'Hades' Becker [ Sunday, 25th of March 2012 - 06:29 PM ]
We recently were given a look at The Walking Dead's game play via Telltale's debut trailer but it wasn't much more than a few seconds. A few seconds of very little compared to what the latest episode of Playing Dead has to show us. While the episode is about 15 minutes long, if you jump to the 7 minute mark you will get a glimpse at about 3 minutes of the game. Spoiler, it looks like it handles just as one would expect from Telltale. Take a watch. Read More...

I Love The Concept Of Video Games Live
by Matt Waitt [ Friday, 10th of February 2012 - 10:00 PM ]
In my travels through the often harsh lands of television, I have come across what might be one of the most amazing things I have ever laid my eyes on: A symphony covering video game themes. If you guys don't already know "Video Games Live" is one part rock concert, one part festival, one part classical symphony concert and all parts amazing. Video Games Live is the brainchild of the legendary video game composers Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, featuring an immersive event with music from your favorite video games performed by top orchestras and choirs. Along with video footage and music arrangements, epic light shows, solo performances and unique interactive segments. Read More...

Zachary Levi To Host Video Game Awards
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 30th of November 2011 - 10:29 PM ]
Today it was announced that Zachary Levi will be hosting the 2011 Video Game Awards on Spike TV. Before you click away from this article and roll your eyes, let's take a look at the VGAs and this press release in particular before you pre-judge the fledgling award show. I decided to do this analysis in hopes that Spike TV is trying to legitimize the show and the process. First off, Zachary Levi is a nice, safe choice for host. He's moderately popular with the mainstream (Chuck, Tangled) and he has geek cred (Halo voiceover and Internet presence). Read More...

It's Templar Week In The Secret World
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 16th of November 2011 - 11:28 PM ]
Yea, I'll admit that sounds a lot like Shark Week on the Discovery channel, but damn it, Funcom wants to get some more info about The Secret World out to all of you. I am just trying to help them in this task. TSW does look like it can end up being one of the coolest MMO's out there. At least when it finally launches. Below you can peruse some new screen shots and concept art for the game and one of the three factions players will get to be part of. As you should have already guessed this week's faction is the Templars. Read More...

A Moment of your Time...
by Bryan Ray [ Tuesday, 8th of November 2011 - 01:21 AM ]
Greetings fellow gamers! If I could have a brief minute, I would like to tell you about myself. My name is Bryan Ray, frequently referred to as King Xanadu, and I will be writing for Aggrogamer over the next several months. (Perhaps years? I like the thought.) I play mostly XBox 360 though I do have a Steam account for my dated laptop (It's old enough to have a “supports Windows Vista” sticker on it) but I don’t use it as much as I’d like. I love music, a lot. So much that I am currently attending college for it. Read More...

by Matt Waitt [ Tuesday, 6th of September 2011 - 10:11 PM ]
Again in my travels across the lush open world of YouTube I have come across a golden gem; A short little film by Andrewfilms of how awesome it would be to play Metal Slug via Augmented reality. A great show of post editing skills, makes this a must see viral video. The short captures the good old nostalgia of Metal Slug, a truly epic series of running and gunning. Sit back and enjoy this Nazi stomping, Zombie blasting good time Leave your thoughts and opinions below. I'd personally love if they threw in a boss fight at the end. Read More...

Virtual Reality To An Extreme
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 22nd of April 2011 - 06:55 PM ]
In the pursuit of making games 100% immersive there are an ass ton of gadgets, gizmos and displays to make you feel truly in the middle of the action. That is what the whole motion controller craze and revitalization of 3D is all about isn't it? But no one will rest until you can fully experience the game world as if you were truly standing there and walking around it. That is what gamers enjoy isn't it? Moving around and having all of the game character's skills based on their own motor functions that don't require basic thumb presses. Read More...

by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 16th of March 2011 - 04:32 PM ]
Hey aspiring artist gamers, wouldn't that be amazing? To get you artwork shown off in one of the largest gaming conventions? Too good to be true is what I am sure you are thinking, but again you have your chance to get your art viewed. The submission period for this year's Into The Pixel exhibit is now open and will be open until April 15th. In case you are in the dark about this, Into The Pixel is an exploration and celebration of the art of video games from around the world that is put on by The Academy of Interactive Arts&Sciences (AIAS) and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Every year that I have been to E3 they hold an exhibit and cocktail party to showcase the top pieces for all to see. Read More...
