Dead Space Is No Longer A Solo Horror
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 15th of September 2010 - 08:13 PM ]
Generally in a survival horror game, the protagonist is left isolated and alone for the game with only getting a few "human" interactions along the way to help drive the progression of the game. Think back and see that I am right on this. Are you done? Good. That said, doesn't this seem the age of multiplayer for multiplayer's sake lately? So it should seem no real shock that another great survival horror - in this case Dead Space 2 - has taken on the need for multiplayer. Not a first for the franchise if you think back to the Wii rail-shooter Dead Space: Extraction, but that wasn't truly a survival horror, was it? Read More...

Learn Where The Plague Comes From in Dead Rising 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 8th of September 2010 - 08:38 PM ]
Dead Rising 2 is only a few weeks out from launch. Wouldn't it be nice to have a solid feel for what is going into the game? You already know the basics of the story, the characters you will encounter, the weapons you'll use as well as the multiplayer. Yea, it kind of would be nice to have it all in one nice little spot. Well at least in four different video spots, which are all shown below. I do wonder if they truly did build all the jury-rigged weapons in house to see if they would work or not as it is shown in the clip. Read More...

Comic Con Hands On: Dead Space 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 3rd of August 2010 - 09:54 PM ]
It has been only a little over a month after we first brought you our thoughts on Dead Space 2 from E3. So what new can we bring you about DS2 that we haven't already talked about? Well, actually getting to take the reins of the demo they showed in the back rooms at E3 for one. If you have seen the game play from E3, then you know exactly what part of the game we got to look at behind curtains at Comic Con. Only this time we didn't have to rely on the game designers to tell us how great the new controls for Dead Space 2 are going to be. I can attest that they are just as tight and awesome as previously described. Read More...

E3 2010 Impressions: Dead Space 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of June 2010 - 08:51 PM ]
Hidden in the back corner, deep within the confines of the EA booth was a small Church of Unitology. Within the church was a plethora of wooden pews with "hymn" books placed before them. As we were ushered in, the electronic candles dimmed and we were greeted with a short introduction. Pleasantries dispatched, we hopped right into the game play of Dead Space 2. Now from watching the EA and Sony press conferences, you may be thinking that you have already received all the visual goodness Visceral Games had to show for Dead Space 2. Well, you are pretty much correct, at least as far as content is concerned. Read More...

E3 2010: Stock full of Trailers
by Binh Nguyen [ Wednesday, 16th of June 2010 - 03:39 PM ]
So apparently, waiting was not on the agenda in the days prior to E3 opening.  What I mean by that is just the other day on Spike TV - they had their pre-E3 show where they showed a lot of the new trailers that previously, we would have had to wait until the actual show to see these trailers. But since we all live on the Internet, instant gratification is all we have time for anymore. So here you guys go with bunch of trailers of Socom 4, Killzone 3, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Dead Space 2, Devils Third, Gran Turismo 5 and Shank. Hope you all enjoy. Read More...

Dead Space 2 Cover Art Revealed
by Brian Goodman [ Saturday, 5th of June 2010 - 09:40 PM ]
I guess there isn't much else to say besides what is in the title. Here is a link to the tweet just released from the official Dead Space Twitter account. You can also see the art at the bottom of this post. About a year and a half ago ago I bought the first Dead Space used in the bargain bin, looking to kill some time. I wasn't expecting to, but I personally really enjoyed the first Dead Space. It wasn't very scary, nor did it have a very original plot, but it functioned very well with above average mechanics and fantastic graphics. Read More...

Red Dead Redemption: First Impressions And Thoughts
by Brian Goodman [ Friday, 21st of May 2010 - 09:41 PM ]
Red Dead Redemption is Rockstar San Diego's newly released sandbox genre game. Despite many delayed release dates, reports of troubled working conditions, and an overblown development budget making profitability unlikely, the game has come out to much critical acclaim and rightly so. Red Dead Redemption is a sequel to the 2004 XBox and PS2 release Red Dead Revolver. Red Dead Redemption stars outlaw turned government agent John Marston. The Clint Eastwood-like spaghetti western plot revolves around Mr. Read More...

Dead Space Lets You Kill Babies Like Dante
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 18th of May 2010 - 08:59 PM ]
Visceral Games just likes killing babies. Or at least that is how it seems from their games. First you get to slaughter the unbaptized ones in Dante's Inferno. Now, for the screens below, it looks like you get to kill "infected" babies in Dead Space 2. Infected and with Cthulhu growing out their back babies. Ok, well those ones need killing I guess... What also needs killing is the person who took these screen captures as well. Read More...

Who likes seeing new stuff about their favorite franchises? Who likes hearing about updates to their favorite games? Who wants to see some of the big heads of the big EA games coming out or out already telling you what we have to look forward to in the coming year, all before the big push at E3 in a month? That's right you do. If you don't, then you better want to. Read More...

Review: Dead to Rights: Retribution
by Kevin [ Monday, 3rd of May 2010 - 05:35 PM ]
Dead to Rights: Retribution is a third person action title following vice cop Jack Slate and his groin-ravaging, canine companion Shadow as they uncover the seedier threats that are rising against an already seedy Grant City. Essentially, it is a re-imagining of the franchise that began with very basic, but very fun run and gun gameplay with a hint of John Woo-style dramatics. The sequel to the original, Dead to Rights II: Hell to Pay, moved the series from all the aforementioned positives into an area of monotony and outright brokenness. It took the ideas of the first game, which were actually pretty fresh amidst most of the titles out at the time, and did absolutely nothing with them. Read More...

Brian G Asks: WTF is up with DLC?
by Brian Goodman [ Monday, 26th of April 2010 - 04:20 PM ]
It's an exciting time to be a gamer because there is definitely a lot of pivotal stuff going on in our industry right now. Today I want to go on about a reasonably new development of an old concept. Expansion packs have been around since the mid 90's in the PC world. Back when the PC dinosaurs ruled the video game landscape (and just about any game could be played on any computer without a video card that costs more than a PS3), if there was a successful game, a half a year or so later we would see an expansion pack. People who enjoyed a game could purchase more content for around $20 to $30-ish. Don't quote me on this, but the first expansion in my memory was the level add on pack for Doom II released in 1995 called "Doom II Master Levels. Read More...

Hands On 'The Passing' Released For L4D2
by Brian Goodman [ Friday, 23rd of April 2010 - 10:44 PM ]
So Valve announced the first DLC package for L4D2 a while ago and it is finally here to bring us more zombie killin' goodness. The "carrot" that they have been enticing us with is a major "change" to the cast of the L4D universe, and true to word there is one less survivor running around taking all the pills and startling the witch. *Note* I will try to keep this write up spoiler free for those of you who have not had a chance to run through it. I fired up Steam where the content is free (560 points if you play on the New Jersey of online gaming XBL) and loaded up the single player campaign mode to blow through as fast as I could.
