If you don't want to listen to the entire episode here, let me give you a few bullet points on the new info. You will miss out on a few of the in game screen shots, but for the most part here is what is touched upon.
- Episodic Based - As to be expected the game will come out in "episodes" for us to play. Much like pretty much all of their titles.
- New Characters - And by new I mean new to the ENTIRE franchise. These characters being Lee Everett&Clementine, a recently "freed" convict and a little girl who both have total abandonment and loneliness in common.
- Takes Place Before Rick Wakes - Unlike the Comic and TV show this game will not be based around Rick and in fact will be taking place before he even wakes up from his comma.
- Expect Cameos - While Rick is still snoozing through the initial outbreak that was not the case for Comic and Show favorites. So expect to see a few things that happened to those characters before page one of the core story.
- Robert Kirkman - As should have been expected he will be playing a part in the games development, most likely in story direction for the most part, so the events here could be considered "canon." If anything at least we know the story won't suck monkey nipples.
- Not An Escort Mission - While it sounds like it would be an escort mission game, old con and little girl travelling together and all, the devs assure that it will be minimal if at all. More or less it will be a learning experience for the two characters and not a keep the other alive thing.
- Less Zombie Killing - One of the bigger focuses in the game will be on storytelling over just destroying as many zombies as possible. Sounds much like what the Comic and TV show are about.
- Comic Inspired Locations - While there was no mention on the locations of the game, they assure that they were all inspired by something in the Comics. The locations may also just be inspired by the art style more than the actual locations set in the Comic.
- Comic/Cell Shading - If you actually watch the video you can see this better. But think along the lines of taking the drawings from the Comics and making them 3D. It's not exactly Cell Shading but it is a close descriptor.
- Choices Matter - Yep. The choices you make will affect everything in the game. By that I mean that choices made in episode 1 will/could change how episode 8 (if it goes that far) will play. Be it a character you saved helping you still or something else.
I will admit that when I first heard that TellTale was helming The Walking Dead Game I had huge reservations. After seeing the below video my faith is restored a bit more that this could be a great game that will help the franchise. I know time will only tell, but it does look that TellTale is taking great care to make sure they can please as many of the fans as possible and make a game that people will want to play. This could change but the direction they are moving in seems like a winning one.
