$1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest
by Aaron BlueWolf72 Molloy [ Friday, 4th of April 2008 - 01:59 AM ]
Epic Games has now launched their new "Make Something Unreal" PC game mod contest. Sponsored this time by Intel, the contest will give aspiring game creators a way to win cash and prizes for making mods based on Epic's Unreal Tournament 3. Over $1 million in cash and prizes will be given to the winners and just like the first "Make Something Unreal" contest (for mods made with UT 2003/2004) the new version will have a grand prize of a full Unreal Engine 3 license for the overall best mod. Last time the winner was Tripwire Interactive for their Red Orchestra mod; they later formed a full dev team and released the game as a stand alone commercial title. Judging will begin in June 2008 in the first phase of the contest; the final winners will be determined in fall 2009 after all four phases are complete. Read More...

The Wait Will Soon Be Over...
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 3rd of April 2008 - 03:35 PM ]
Home Beta Going Public "Very Soon" Before I get into to my thoughts on all of this, I figured I would show you the small release that was posted about this. And by small, I do mean very small; like 10 words on this. Yes that's right, just 10 words. Not a very long one, but it is very exciting unless they are toying with our emotions again. Here it is: "We'll be opening up the Home beta to the public very soon and hope to see you there," said Susan Panico, senior director of PlayStation Network. Ok, so seeing that, I have come up with my own prognostication about this. Read More...

Gamers PWN the US
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 2nd of April 2008 - 09:23 PM ]
72% Of U.S. Plays Games, Only 2-3% Own Multiple Consoles If you missed the heading, almost 3/4ths of the country plays games, to some extent at least. Not bad numbers when you look at them. That means there has got to be something to this whole thing right? I'd say so. Gamers are not a minority; we are a majority. And we have the NPD to prove this fact for us all. Oh, and just so ya know as well, this is up from last years survey that had only 64% of the US gaming. Read More...

Sony PWNs Self?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 2nd of April 2008 - 05:09 PM ]
Feel the Shock Next Week! I really am not a big fan of April 1st. Like I've said before, I am a fan of a good joke, but when it comes to actually reporting something that means anything yesterday was a trial. Hence why I only found one object to post about and it was about a fake video anyway. But now back to actually reporting fun news in the gaming world. So it looks like Sony is revving up their release for the new Dual Shock 3 controller. Originally it was due out on the 15th, but it looks like it will be here a week early. Read More...

Total Link PWNage
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 1st of April 2008 - 09:40 PM ]
Legend Of Zelda Movie Trailer Premiere Ok, so I could have the largest dick in the universe and report this as 100% real, but I am not. In fact, I've been trolling around to find real stuff to report on, but alas, today is the day that everyone goes above and beyond to pull a prank. For F*cks sake, some of these "Joke" ideas are good enough to be made real; like the Bard class for WoW. But no, everyone has got to have their turn at teasing the world only to kick them in the virtual nuts by saying ha-f*cking-ha. I mean, I like a joke more than the next guy, but when you go to extreme lengths like what you will see below, it is no longer a good joke but just harmful. Read More...

Going #1 on the Wii...
by Stephanie Naboshek [ Tuesday, 1st of April 2008 - 01:45 PM ]
So I normally don't write two articles in an hour, but I just checked my email, and this was featured in my Thinkgeek.com Newsletter... SUPER Pii Pii brothers is a crazy, imported Japanese game for the Wii that requires you to... well... wee!! Complete loads of mini games by attaching your Wii-mote into the support harness provided and AIM AWAY!! Score extra points by tinkling on cats and other fun creates who pop out of the urinals and lose points for getting too much on the floor. Verse your friends in the fun multi-player mode and if the humiliation wasn't enough, just the mere ability to say you own Super Pii Pii Brothers is worth the $34. Read More...

VALVE, UPDATES and YOU!!
by Stephanie Naboshek [ Tuesday, 1st of April 2008 - 12:55 PM ]
Over the weekend a handful of updates were released for all you STEAM users out there. If you've already restarted your Steam client since yesterday then it's already been installed. First off, Valve updated the Steam client last week, fixing some bugs and compatibility problems that some of you may or may not have been experiencing. And then again yesterday came two update bundles for those of you who have either FRONTLINES: Full of War and/or Garry's Mod on your Steam account. In the answers to our hopes and prayers, Valve has made a good impact an some common problems experienced during game and fixing bugs responsible for many crashes (God knows my Gmod crashes all the time). No PC or Console Gaming While Drunk Bill
by Aaron BlueWolf72 Molloy [ Tuesday, 1st of April 2008 - 02:00 AM ]
A new bill to hit the floor of congress, if passed, could mean that you can be arrested for drinking too much while playing Consoles or PC Games. The main concern is that the FBI is going to use the bill to tap the phone lines of anyone who "uses or abuses alcohol" while accessing the internet. With the recent claims that video games cause violence they decided to use this an another way to label the bill. Congress apparently thinks being drunk on a highway is bad no matter what kind of highway it is. I understand drinking has always been an issue and the appeal to stop people who sit at home and drink and get perverted or crazy, but to add the video game part to this is just freaking silly. Everyone's favorite Portal song, Still Alive, will be available for free tomorrow for Rock Band players. No, this is not a April Fools Day joke. Sony PWNs Its Users...A Little Bit
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 31st of March 2008 - 05:54 PM ]
PlayStation Store Update It's not a content update, but a whole redesign of the PlayStation Store. I'm sure you've heard something about this in the last few weeks or so. But it looks like they are actually going through with it sometime in the middle of April. No solid date has been locked down for it. The only set date is that they will not be releasing any new content on the store from April 3rd on to the actual release of the re-vamp. This of course will all be made with yet another Firmware update. Read More...

Someone's Bank Account Gets PWNED
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 31st of March 2008 - 04:00 PM ]
Chimera Skull From Playstation 3 Game TV Ad Sold Don't we all wish we had $2500 dollars just to throw around? I'm calling shenanigans if you say no to that. That's right, Shenanigans have been called. But in any instance, this is an interesting thing that popped up on E-bay. Profiles In History is actually offering up the Chimera Skull used in the PS3 commercials for the Resistance TV Ad, with $2,500 being the low end price for the skull. I know, I was kind shocked when I saw it at first as well, but it seems like a legit offer and not one of those, "I'm selling a picture of..." kind of offers. Read More...
