Just one more step towards trailing all humans how to efficiently kill with a sniper scope. Or at least to kill using an interface that could control a sniper scope. Yea, think like in the movie The Jackal. Aim and kill with just the touch of your finger to the iPhone screen. Ok, maybe not that dramatic, but you get the idea, I hope.
But in all seriousness, Konami today announced that they are working on a full on version of Silent Scope for the iPhone. For those who might not remember what this 1999 game is all about: You play one of the best snipers in the world trying to save the President and family from a good ol' kidnapping romp. All done as a rail shooter and in the arcades, you could even have a buddy stand next to you and give you directions as you looked through the small scope lens trying to find your next target. Something I'm not seeing coming over too well for an iPhone game. But we'll see.
What is known is that it will have all of the functionality of the original game from the arcade and ported over almost every other system. Story mode to timed mode. All of which controlled through tap-to-shoot mechanics for the game. There is no physical movement the player is expected to do in game, it's a rail shooter as I said, but I'm guessing taking aim will and firing will take two fingers to master it right.
We'll see how this goes. First you got the pwned app, then the slice 'em up Dexter app, now the snipe humanity app. Looks like the iPhone may be training gamers for something much more devious down the line. Or just trying to entertain. Either way.
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - April 8, 2009 - Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced today that Silent Scope is coming soon to the iPhone and iPod touch. Based on the popular arcade game originally released in 1999, players take on the role of the world's top sniper and must defeat terrorists to save the American First Family, including the President of the United States, who have been abducted by terrorists in Chicago.
"With the release of Silent Scope on the iPhone and iPod touch, we're substantiating our commitment to developing quality content that takes our top franchise titles and turns them into an on-the-go gaming experience," said Anthony Borquez, Vice President of Konami Mobile and Online. "Silent Scope allows players to conceal their firearms and perfect their sharp shooting skills wherever they go."
Designed to take full advantage of Apple's innovative Multi-Touch user interface, Silent Scope will feature tap-to-shoot game controls. In this rail shooter, players can choose from different game play modes, including Arcade Mode and Training Mode. Inexperienced marksmen can practice precision shooting in the Training Mode, while veteran snipers can go straight to the Arcade Mode featuring up to three stages of game play: Story, Shooting Range and Time Attack. The Arcade Mode also allows players to change the game settings to Difficulty, Player Life and Branch Select.
