E3 Impressions: Singularity
by Ben Brody [ Monday, 8th of June 2009 - 08:15 PM ]
In mathematics, singularity theory is the study of the failure of manifold structure (yes, that is taken from wikipedia). In the game Singularity, something definitely failed, and while I'm not sure what a manifold structure is, it sounded like a cool sentence to start off with. All this aside, Raven Software's Singularity looks like one of the best shooters coming out this year. Players will control Nate Renko, an American Air Force pilot who was sent to an island called Katorga 12 to investigate why the area was emitting irregular amounts of radiation. During his investigation, however, his plane crashes on the island. Read More...

E3 Impression: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
by Binh Nguyen [ Sunday, 7th of June 2009 - 04:49 PM ]
With all the huge news coming from Square-Enix, Activision, EA, etc, Konami decided to join in on the fun and make a huge announcement also. How? With a trailer of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Also announced was the shocker of Kojima Productions working with MercurySteam on this title based on the classic game. As I stood in the middle of the Konami show floor looking up on their titan-tron waiting for the trailer to come up, one thing came to mind while I was waiting. "Will this game be another disappointment? Read More...

E3 Impression: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
by Binh Nguyen [ Sunday, 7th of June 2009 - 01:52 PM ]
Get your claws out, paint your skin green and get your web slinger toys out as Activision is releasing another Marvel Ultimate Alliance game for all of us comic book geeks. As we all know Activision released the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance and overall the game was a success with a "team brawler" style game. How can Marvel top their last game with this up and coming game? By having a story base off the Civil War series that turned the Marvel universe to where it is today. Read More...

E3 Hands-On Impressions of God of War III
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Saturday, 6th of June 2009 - 10:09 PM ]
Now I could go the route that you all think I am going to go with this. Well at least the route that any who have heard our E3 podcasts and also saw the PSN Pulse interview. That is, just go all out using the flashy words, hundred dollar words, spouting awesome catch phases, being the total fan boy of this game and franchise. But you know what? I totally am going that route with this. Read More...

E3 Impressions of Mass Effect 2
by Michael Camacho [ Saturday, 6th of June 2009 - 06:35 PM ]
Unfortunately for E3, there wasn't a hands on demo for Mass Effect 2 of any kind, but we did get to see a demo played by one of the Mass Effect 2 team. The first bit of information we were told was the fact that Commander Shepherd is in fact not dead. This is further confirmed by the fact they stated Shepherd will be around for the entire trilogy, which will surely please many fans who didn't want to see all of their efforts from the first game go to waste. When the demo started, it was easy to see that this was a much darker world this time around in Mass Effect. You begin by witnessing Shepherd searching for the assassin, Thane. Read More...

E3 Impressions - Wolfenstein
by Brian Bentley [ Saturday, 6th of June 2009 - 05:56 PM ]
There is something unforgettable about the moment you began playing Wolfenstein 3D.  Fast, furious and in your face, this title made an impact that affected the games industry forever.  For many gamers, including myself, it changed the way we played and thought about games, shooters in particular.  Fast forward 17 years and many first player shooters later, Wolfenstein is getting set up to be released by id Software and during this E3, we saw a demonstration focusing on the supernatural aspects of the game.   Once again, you assume the role of BJ Blazkowicz and it is your mission to uncover and stop the Nazi plot to take over the world. E3 Impressions of Dragon Age: Origins
by Michael Camacho [ Thursday, 4th of June 2009 - 11:19 PM ]
Entering Bioware's Dragon Age: Origins demo room, I figured it would be another sit down and watch the developer's play the game type demo. And it began in just that fashion, in which they went over the basic premise of how the Arch Demon has risen and brought along a horde of demons to help wipe out everything in the world. The developers started us off at one of the party camps, and these are mobile locations the player can set up and interact with the various characters within the party. You can give gifts or items to other characters to build your relationship. Read More...

E3 Hands On Impressions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade
by Michael Camacho [ Thursday, 4th of June 2009 - 06:27 PM ]
I finally got my hands on Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Nintendo Wii. It was developed by Vanilla Ware, the studio that did Odin Sphere on the PS2, and localized by Ignition Software. The game is beautifully animated and the amount of detail really shines, which showcases the amount of work that went into it. Presented in a 2D side scrolling format, the backgrounds and characters pop out at you. You have two playable characters, Kisuke (male) and Momohime (female), with whom you control using the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Read More...

E3 Impressions: Blur
by Ben Brody [ Thursday, 4th of June 2009 - 04:42 PM ]
Have you ever played Project Gotham Racing and thought to yourself, this would be awesome if I could get powerups and kill the other cars. Well so did Bizarre Creations and that's why they created Blur.I got a closed door meeting with Bizarre Creations' newest racing title, Blur. Incorporating real cars and locations with arcade power ups, Blur does just that, blurs the line between Project Gotham Racing's realistic physics with Mario Kart's arcade style powerups, Blur is an all new kind of racer. I got to play two tracks, a simple oval style racetrack laden with powerups and wide roadways, and a more urban track (Hackney area of England) with twisty turns and narrow avenues.Several car manufacturers, including Ford, GM, Renault, BMW, and Koeniggsegg (sp) all made appearances and we got assurance from Bizarre Creations's that there would be many more cars added. E3 Impressions - The Beatles: Rock Band
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 4th of June 2009 - 03:19 PM ]
Standing outside of the famous Abbey Road, I thought about all the artists that have passed through into stardom. The doors opened to a vintage theater seating, a stage and curtain and giant LCD monitors. The curtains drew revealing Studio 2 made famous by the Beatles. The instruments were cardboard cutouts and we were still in the Los Angeles Convention Center, but as Harmonix began to demonstrate their newest Rock Band offering, it was difficult to not be swept up in the melodies and harmonies of a band as influential as The Beatles. Releasing on September 9th, the disc will have 45 tracks with plenty of DLC to follow, beginning with "All You Need is Love" (time-released exclusive) on Xbox 360 and the entire album, Abbey Road. All proceeds from purchases of All You Need is Love will benefit Doctors without Borders. Read More...

by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 29th of May 2009 - 05:20 PM ]
Respawning, reset, restart and resurrection, second chances all gamers know about and stand loyally with against the tides of gaming oppression.  As Binh mentioned in his story here, fans of Blizzard Entertainment are now getting a second chance to attend Blizzcon.  Fans of Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and some game called World of Warcraft (you’ve probably never heard of it) will now be able to purchase tickets online tomorrow starting at 10am PDT, most likely crippling the Internet with the surge of activity as they clamor for the chance to attend the spectacle that is Blizzcon.  Battle.net is the source for your ticketing needs, but if you’re unsuccessful tomorrow, you can always watch it on Pay Per View. 12 Is The New Number Of The Beast
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 28th of May 2009 - 09:18 PM ]
12 More Iron Maiden Songs for Rock Band Just announced via their online 'zine, Harmonix just released their next wave of downloadable for Rock Band/Rock Band 2. Something which generally isn't that big of news. Generally. Except this time it is a full set of 12 Iron Maiden songs. Including one of my favorites, which was covered by Cradle of Filth, Hallowed Be Thy Name. Below is the full list as well as part of the 'zine just sent out. The only thing that kind of upsets me about this whole thing is there is no word on how it will be handled for the two tracks that have already been released. Read More...

A Change of Color
by Binh Nguyen [ Wednesday, 27th of May 2009 - 05:08 AM ]
Druids, are you tired of looking the same as all the other Druids? Would you want to change colors in your bear and cat form? Do you want to dance in bear form in style? Well now you can, as Blizzard has announced new looks for the Druids! In the next major patch for World of Warcraft, druids will be able to find color schemes for the bear and cat forms. Blizzard made the following announcement on their Under Development page: “There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance. Night elves can choose to change their cat and bear look at any time by visiting the barber shop and changing their character's hair color, while tauren will be able to change which look they use by switching skin tones in the barber shop -- a new feature for tauren in the next major content patch.
