Waterworks In The New Mortal Kombat DLC
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 18th of July 2011 - 03:55 PM ]
The guys over at NetherRealm Studios have released a few trailers for their newest Mortal Kombat DLC character Rain. The trailers show off some of his back story, which is quite nice. Seems that after being orphaned from Shao-Khan's merciless army, the resistance adopted him and made him into a very powerful but arrogant warrior. After being denied a command position in the resistance he betrayed them and joined his mortal enemy, Shao-Khan. The trailers also shows off some very brutal combos and attacks that we can expect to dish out and sorely take to the face a couple dozen times. Read More...

It's Time To Get Raptured...BioShock Style
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 14th of July 2011 - 10:57 PM ]
Hear ye! Hear ye! Rapture is upon us and it closer than most of you might think. It wasn't back in May. Nor is it in October this year. I am prognosticating that it will be here in a matter of days. In fact I am prognosticating that it will be here on July the nineteenth two thousand eleven (7/19/11). Then again it isn't much of foretelling of the future as that is the release date of the novel based around the BioShock universe is slated to hit selves. BioShock: Rapture is a book written by John Shirley. Read More...

Batman Really Taking On Jigsaw In Arkham City Now
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 13th of July 2011 - 10:30 PM ]
I do love the new direction that RockSteady has taken The Riddler, my second favorite villain, but I can't seem to look past the close similarities in the characters. They are both geniuses. They both like putting people in death traps. They both have a specific tone and method to their speaking. I guess the only real difference is that the new Riddler does it to prove to the world that he really is the smartest person alive. Anyways, if you haven't picked up on it yet, or skipped to the video, there is a new clip showcasing some of the personality behind The Riddle of Batman: Arkham City. There are no spoilers at all, unless the few words and phrases said would somehow ruin the experience, so don't worry about that. Read More...

Review: Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 5th of July 2011 - 11:07 PM ]
As I am sure you undoubtedly know, the new Transformers film is in theaters. This also means that the new game based on the film, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, has hit shelves to try and draw more money out of our pockets due to nostalgia. Yep, here is yet another film based game. Another chance for a game company to rush something out just to catch a few extra bucks from the hype. Let's see how this fairs against all of the other film based shit games out there. The Story After the events of the last film, the Autobots have taken it upon themselves to help the human race by performing secret missions to keep the peace of the world. Read More...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Looks Amazing Even Without The Dress Sphere
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 30th of June 2011 - 04:21 PM ]
I swear that Square Enix has sold their souls to someone other than me. When it comes to making games look amazing, they are by far one of the leaders in video game visuals. Almost to the point it has to be supernatural. Try and name one of their Final Fantasy titles that did not look cutting edge for the time. I find that a difficult task, so I'll move on. If you have not skipped on to see the new screen shots yet, I thank you. Read More...

Review: Duke Nukem Forever
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 28th of June 2011 - 08:55 PM ]
Nearly 14 years in the making, Duke Nukem is back in action in Duke Nukem Forever. It was shaky and seemed like it was never going to hit shelves, but Gearbox and 2K Games proved most of us wrong. But is the FPS any good or at least been worth the wait? Welcome as always to where I come in. The Story Twelve years after the events of Duke Nukem 3D, Duke is living the high life as a national hero/treasure in Las Vegas. All seems well. That is until the aliens that he took care of so long ago decide to attack instead of finish the peace talks they are currently working on. Read More...

E3 2011 Impressions: Star Trek
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 22nd of June 2011 - 03:56 PM ]
Now if you saw the Sony press conference you might have caught the small bit about a new Star Trek game coming soon with a really cool looking phaser add-on for the Move. There was extremely little shown off there and it seemed like it was just going to be a footnote in the game announcements during the conference. That was until I sought out Paramount and Digital Extremes in an underground meeting room. This is where the full announcement and game was being shown off. Read More...

by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 21st of June 2011 - 04:22 PM ]
Another Dungeon Crawler has entered our midst, but this time it's one that players are quite familiar with. Dungeon Siege III, Obsidian Entertainment's latest installment of the previous Gas Powered Games franchise, is out to bring back some of that old nostalgic dungeon crawling experience players love. But after almost ten years since the first one, can Dungeon Siege III rekindle the need for phat loot? Story Dungeon Siege III takes place 150 years since the original game. Read More...

E3 Hands On: Dead Island
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 17th of June 2011 - 10:50 AM ]
If you've followed anything I've written regarding Dead Island on this site, you would know that this is one of the few titles I am extremely excited to play. So you can only imagine my excitement when I was let in on the (as I was originally told) appointment only demo. A demo that focused specifically on the multiplayer/co-op of the tragedy in paradise. What could be better? I'm done gilding the lily here, so let me just take you into the bulk of what I got to see as well as control in Dead Island. Read More...

E3 2011 Impressions: XCOM
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 16th of June 2011 - 06:13 PM ]
At last year’s E3, when I saw XCOM, I was loving the environments, the time period and the promise of strategic elements. What I was iffy on was the generic-feeling action game play. A year has passed and I walked into the 2K Games booth to see what progress 2K Marin has made on this re-imaging of the beloved franchise. This year the focus of the demonstration was the strategic aspects of combat in the field and the importance of decisions made through the course of the game. Everything is a factor – from choosing your mission, to who accompanies you on the mission, to how you tackle each scenario you encounter in the field. Read More...

E3 2011 Hands On: Twisted Metal
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 14th of June 2011 - 08:56 PM ]
So it has been a year since the new Twisted Metal was announced at E3 during the Sony press conference. It seems like it would be a good time to check in and see what the designers over at Eat Sleep Play have been doing since then. Yes there have been some fun new trailers and game play footage, but that doesn't give one a good feeling of how the game would handle. For that you need to place hands to controller. It was extremely fitting that the first location to get my godly hands on the game was in the arcade set up immediately after the Sony conference. Read More...

E3 2011 Impressions: Tomb Raider
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 14th of June 2011 - 04:11 PM ]
If there is one franchise that feels like it has been milked to death, it would be Tomb Raider. The true definition that sex sells in gaming. So it would be very little surprise that Eidos would look into remaking such a beloved franchise for more money. Only from what we got to see at E3, I would not put it in the normal "remake for money" category just yet. This new Tomb Raider looks like it is going to do for this franchise what Batman Begins did for the Batman film franchise. It is darker. Read More...

E3 2011 Impressions: BioShock Infinite
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 13th of June 2011 - 09:34 PM ]
Hidden deep in the back of the 2K Games booth in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, we were led into a room that looked like an old hunter's club room - Animal heads on the walls, old fashioned lamps lighting the room and filled wall to wall with plush leather couches. It was as close to an opening in reality to take a step into Columbia (where Bioshock Infinite takes place) as I could imagine without Elizabeth opening a tear and pulling us through. Before I get into the bulk of the game footage we were shown, which consisted mostly of sky rail combat, let me catch some of you up on the story that is the lead up as well as the background. This is for those just now finding interest in the game. Read More...

A New SSX Debut At E3
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 9th of June 2011 - 03:03 PM ]
We haven't had an SSX title since 2007, so the announcement earlier this year that SSX was coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 was kind of a big deal. With there over-the-top tricks and incredible tracks (both snow and music), SSX is probably one of the highest-rated snowboarding games out there. Definitely a welcome back for both the genre and the franchise. Mountains, check. Snowboard, check. Read More...

Kingdom of Amalur E3 Gameplay Trailer
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 9th of June 2011 - 06:35 AM ]
With some of the biggest names in the realm of high fantasy, and judging by the latest E3 trailer, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is not going to disappoint. Magic, rebirth, hack n' slash combat, this trailer does it all and for the first time we get a little background on the storyline. It's a really great look at the extensive world created by R.A. Salvatore and the team at 38 Studios. Read More...
