The Disappearance Of Single Player
by Greg Tatterfield [ Wednesday, 1st of August 2012 - 09:49 PM ]
Remember the time when you placed a new game in your game console and you could expect an epic and memorable single player experience? I am among those gamers who remember having that full-blown experience with every new game that graced my console. As an old school gamer that owned all the major systems since the 90s I see a disturbing trend that could spell trouble for fans of single player games. The problem is that single player seems to be becoming extinct. It’s no secret that online multiplayer has became exceptionally popular among the current generation of gamers. Read More...

Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the community. My name is Todd Naevestad and I am the newest member of AggroGamer's writing team. This little article is to tell you a little about myself. Let's get right to it. I am a student still, entering my junior year. I am training in professional writing. I have a love for words and telling stories. In the future, I hope to work for a place like BioWare or Bethesda, maybe a place like Wizards of the Coast. I want to work in games of all kinds. Read More...

So in case you are some weird person who didn't play Darksiders and are looking forward to Darksiders II, we have a new video that kind of recaps a bit of the story so you can just skip ahead. It is an over simplification, but you can get the gist as well as get the overview of the new story. Of course not mention that you do get to see a bit more game play and other creatures of the game's world as well some old favorites. If you have a few, take the time to get caught up. I'll wait. by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 30th of July 2012 - 09:07 PM ]
Some of you out there might have seen some of the new Resident Evil 6 footage and then again some of you might not have. If you fall into the former list then as the title suggest we have a whole slew of new things to show you for RE6. Things like still shots from the game and quite a bit of actual game play showing the different play styles and locations in the game. Also while it is not mentioned the bit that was used to show off the cross play feature before is what you are seeing in the Jake video. It isn't mentioned in the video, but you can see it so there is that too. Read More...

Review: The Amazing Spider-Man
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 6th of July 2012 - 11:12 PM ]
It's summer block buster time again in the film industry which means it's also the time we see the video games that coincide with said block busters hitting the shelves. While Marvel missed out on a proper Avengers title, Beenox and Activision made sure that they didn't miss out on a new Spider-Man title. The pair have already churned out the last couple of rather decent titles for the franchise so why not one for the film. Let's see how their faired in a genre that is usually know for making slop that just milks the films for more money. Read More...

Play The Walking Dead For Real At Comic Con
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 2nd of July 2012 - 08:37 PM ]
So by now you've most likely played Telltale's The Walking Dead, read the comic or seen the show. If anything you at least are interested in the zombie apocalypse scenario. Well here is something that those interested in any of those things mention will find pretty damn awesome. If you are at San Diego Comic Con next week you will have the chance to actually play "the game" for real. The game being that of surviving in a world where the dead have escaped the Underworld and are coming for your flesh. This isn't some small obstacle course set up as fun for promotions either. Indie Game Of The Month: A Valley Without Wind
by Fred Buell [ Thursday, 28th of June 2012 - 06:33 PM ]
For all those lovers of classic action games or side scrolling RPGs; look no further than A Valley Without Wind. When I spoke with the developers from Arcen Games at PAX East last April, they had said they loved the old 2D actioners like Super Metroid, Castlevania and so on. They said the one thing they hate about those games is 'they end.' A Valley Without Wind plays just like the aforementioned games with a hint of MMO and one huge difference. It doesn’t end and the maps a randomly generated. Read More...

My Top 20 Favorite Video Game Tracks Of All Time
by Matt Waitt [ Monday, 25th of June 2012 - 06:53 PM ]
Since we do a lot of standard news and reviews on Aggrogamer I think it's time we get a little personal. I am a huge fan of music. I love listening to it and I most certainly enjoy creating it. So here are my top 20 all time favorite themes from a video game. Enjoy. Note: the first 15 are in no specific order but the top 5 are in order of epicness. Spider-Man&Venom: Maximum Carnage - "Carnage Rules" An epic opening to one of the best Spider Man games of all time Serious Sam: The First Encounter - "Fight 5" When this song pops during an epic fire fight in Serious Sam, your adrenaline surges through your veins as you enter "The Zone" Mirror's Edge - "Kate (Puzzle)" I loved Mirror's Edge and this song was so soothing and relaxing. I still listen to it a lot. Read More...

Aggrocast Episode One Hundred: The Epic Reunion
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 15th of June 2012 - 04:23 PM ]
This is it. The episode you've all been waiting for - number 100. I bring in a bunch of new and old friends to podcast together. We talk video games, last week's E3 and reminisce the humble beginnings of Aggrogamer and the Aggrocast. The first half of the show has regular characters Matt and Corey, as well as Aggrogamer's own Chief Editor, fresh from E3 2012, David Becker. I'm sure you'll be as surprised as I was to hear Matt with a static free microphone. We hit up a lot of topics, but chief among them is the recent hullabaloo over the "attempted rape" scene in Tomb Raider The second half of the show is a little lighter and full of nostalgia as I bring the band back together. E3 2012 Impressions: Tomb Raider
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 14th of June 2012 - 01:51 AM ]
Here we go for round two of the major showing of the Tomb Raider reboot and still nothing playable at E3 2012. While there was nothing playable on the show floor, there was a nice little demonstration behind the scenes that was all game play. The only caveat was that we were only allowed to sit and watch. Even with that being the case, I do have to say I was blown away with what I saw even though some of the game play mechanics seemed a bit off in terms of making sense in the world. If you've seen the cross roads trailer (see below) then you also got to see a bit of what we press did backstage. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Resident Evil 6
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 12th of June 2012 - 11:04 PM ]
Before I get in depth here for what I got to see and play for Resident Evil 6 I have to start off that this whole display was split more into two different parts. So that is kind of how I will break this down. The first part was focused more on the action and cross-story play and co-op of the campaign while the second part was some good old fashioned hands on time with a bit of Leon's story. Both of which were drastically different in style. Let me start with the Cross Story play first as it will help explain the four player co-op a bit better. Read More...

E3 2012 Hands On: Darksiders II
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 11th of June 2012 - 08:54 PM ]
With a tagline of "Death Lives" you better know that I would be all over Darksiders II and boy was I at this year's E3. While THQ didn't have a huge booth to show off the game, it was being shown behind closed doors as well as playable for the first time. For the most part it plays like Darksiders, but there were some pretty cool and nice additions that I will now go over. Do not that this was not the final build of the game, but the features discussed will be making their way in. For all of those out there who played and loved Darksiders, you will be happy to know that, like mentioned the controls and movement of DS2 is almost if not exactly the same. Read More...

Aggrocast Episode Ninety Eight .1: Tangent on Games - More Like TangRant
by Brian Bentley [ Monday, 4th of June 2012 - 10:21 PM ]
It is absolutely true that Episode 98 got out of hand. I split it into the meat of talk about E3 and then the rest is in here. It's almost pure rant. Listen to Corey going off on what he thinks the industry thinks makes a successful game (hint: don't assume you'll understand him right away, Matt and I thought he was talking about something completely different at that time. Hear how incredulous Matt and I get.  Comment with your thoughts below in the show notes. Read More...

Alright with E3 right around the corner, Konami took it upon themselves to have their 2nd annual "Pre-E3 Press Conference" which started off slow with some social game updates and news. The State of Gaming: Publishers
by Fred Buell [ Wednesday, 30th of May 2012 - 10:18 PM ]
You all may have noticed lately the onslaught of things like Online Passes, On-Disc DLC, and DLC that have been announced and made before release. Many of you may be under the impression the publisher/developers are just being greedy and trying to squeeze out every penny from you. What you don’t know is the inner-workings behind the scenes. The publishers are losing money this gen due to higher cost of development, and lower economies. They also have long standing arrangements with stores like GameStop where if a game flops they will buy back the product at full price or eat the cost and make zero money back if the store decides to price cut it down to move inventory.
