Impressions: DC Universe Online
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 7th of January 2011 - 02:12 PM ]
So here we are a week out from the launch of DC Universe Online and considerable time has been spent tweaking and fixing bugs in the beta, both on PC and PS3. I had the chance to be a part of the beta, along with all of you PSPlus subscribers or those lucky to have swagged a code to get in. If you don't fall into either of those categories, let me fill you in on what you have been missing out on. The Story Just like any RPG, be it MMO or Table Top, there is an ultimate evil trying to destroy/control the universe. In this case, it is Brainiac and he is doing it in the form of stealing all of the powers of the heroes and villains of the DC Universe. Read More...

Review: World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 30th of December 2010 - 06:51 PM ]
Blizzard's World of Warcraft is the current definitive MMO. With six years of collected content, twelve million players, and three expansions, it doesn't look like WoW is going anywhere soon. Blizzard had built an empire, but to strengthen the empire's walls, it would have to rebuild itself from the inside out. For the past six years, in order for a player to reach the cap level of 80, players had to grind through some of the most grueling quests we've seen since Everquest. Kill, collect, rinse, repeat, this was the old scenario until Wrath of the Lich King. Read More...

World of Warcraft Breaks Record Sales...Again
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 15th of December 2010 - 04:51 PM ]
Looks like Blizzard did it again. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the latest expansion in the World of Warcraft series sold 3.3 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release. This number includes digital sales as well as in-store bought copies. Cataclysm not only rocked the world of Azeroth but also shattered its previous records. Blizzard out sold its previous expansion Wrath of the Lich King sales of 2.8 million and its Starcraft 2 July release sales of 1. Read More...

The Shattering Is Upon Us And I Blame The Gnomes
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 24th of November 2010 - 04:43 AM ]
It's been six years to the day since the original release of World of Warcraft and how does Blizzard celebrate? By destroying the old world of Azeroth compliments of a big angry dragon made of fire and metal. According to a forum post by moderator Zaryhm the latest patch 4.0.3a has gone live on servers today thus changing the way denizens of Azeroth have adventured for years. The cinematic below is the same that you will see when you first login to your account, so if you haven't seen it (doubtful), or don't want to spoil it (your call) don't watch it! Let's take a quick look at what this new patch is actually brought today. Read More...

APB Finds A Buyer And Re-Launching In 2011
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 16th of November 2010 - 06:12 PM ]
Two months ago the company known as Realtime Worlds announced that the First-Person-Shooter-MMO All Points Bulletin was shutting down, and being laid to rest. Many people fought to get their money back, and EA was pretty cool about the whole thing. Not knowing if it would ever be revived, rumors started flying that companies around the globe were looking at buying APB and its fate was held in the balance. Well it looks like the California based GamersFirst and its subsidiary company Reloaded will resurrect APB early next year. The question stands, will it have a better launch than it did its first time around? Read More...

Vindictus Beta Through The Eyes Of A Player
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 13th of October 2010 - 04:57 PM ]
By Joseph Lavergne While I was on twitter one afternoon, I happened to win a beta key to a new free-to-play MMO called Vindictus by Nexon and Devcat. It is a visually striking new MMO with some good and bad points I have found since playing. The first fault I have found is the long download of the game. It took me about three hours and if I was to tried to access the internet for anything else, it would act like I had no connectivity at all. (i. Read More...

DC Universe Online Delayed Till 2011
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 5th of October 2010 - 05:20 PM ]
According to the latest announcement from SOE and DC Universe, they have decided to delay the release of DC Universe Online in order to address a lot of the community Feedback. There is currently no new release date for DC Universe Online; all we know is that it's coming sometime early 2011. So what does this mean for the beta? Well since the game is getting pushed back, players that have those VIP Key cards, or signed up on the website for beta access can see invites going out as early as next week. This is a general queue though and will be on a priority basis, so if you don't get in keep your fingers crossed and watch your e-mail, you might get lucky. Read More...

Blizzard Officially Announces Cataclysm Release Date
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 4th of October 2010 - 03:07 PM ]
Blizzard finally graces us with the official announcement for the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclsym. I'm pretty sure everyone has figured it out by now, but it's nice to see that now it's "Official" and no longer simply speculation. Deathwing is coming and he's bringing a boat load of destruction with him. With an increase of the level cap to 85, two new races and a complete restructure of the old world, this is revving up to probably be the best expansion yet. So if you haven't already reserved your pre-order, digital download or time off from work on December 8th, you have plenty of time to make your arrangements and hit the ground running when the expansion comes out. EA Giving APB Refunds?
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 28th of September 2010 - 06:22 PM ]
Did you purchase APB? Were you mad that you spent $50 on a game with 50 hours of playtime and never had the chance to play the whole time (really?). Well you and the 130,000 (so they say) like you are all experiencing the heartache from the closing of this Action-MMO. Fear not my friends there is a glimmer of hope for a few of you out there. First off let's start off by saying, if you bought APB on Steam you will not be able to get a refund (from Steam). Steam explicitly notifies its players they do not offer refunds. Read More...

Michael Jackson Gets His Own Planet
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 23rd of September 2010 - 10:59 PM ]
For the first time in a long time, I am speechless. A game was announced that made me stare at my laptop and honestly not even know what to say. According to a press release from Bastion and SEE Virtual Worlds, they have signed a deal with Micheal Jackson's Estate and will be releasing an MMO called Planet Michael in 2011 for the Entropia Universe. This is the same company that is behind the Entropia Engine and another sci-fi MMORPG Planet Calypso (see a theme here?). Read More...

APB Servers Shut Down
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 22nd of September 2010 - 03:47 PM ]
Looks like you need more than a phenomenal character customization engine to survive in this gaming industry. All Points Bulletin servers have been shut down only three months after launch. Only a month ago Scottish game developer Real Time Worlds cut its staff down to 50 people (just enough to keep the servers running) and began looking for a possible buyer to take over APB. When no one showed up to take over the IP, it was time to let go. According to Real Time Games, APB had about 130,000 registered users with an average play time of four hours per week and averaging $28 per month. Read More...

Always Look On The 'Light' Side Of Life
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 20th of September 2010 - 06:29 PM ]
Today's developer diary from BioWare highlights Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi class, giving us a brief look into class versatility and the separate experiences players will get through both of the sub-classes, Knight and Consular. You don't necessarily have to be the goody goody Jedi (although you can), you will have options to play the more forceful and vengeful Jedi as well. From this video we also can see how diverse the Jedi class is, from playing the sneaky rogue style of game play, or straight on damage dealer, Jedi have a little of something for everyone. The Lightsaber battles are probably the largest parts of the Star Wars series, and by the look of this video, BioWare seems to be putting that extra polish on, and making sure players get the full Lightsaber dueling experience. In The Secret World, The Templars Are From London
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 31st of August 2010 - 05:41 PM ]
Holy hells! We haven't seen anything new about The Secret World since the end of March. Like the whole team over at Funcom was ushered into the basement bunker owned by the Men in Black for trying to show the world what is truly going on. I was a bit afraid that was the case too. I am overly excited to see if they are going to be able to make up for Age of Conan. While there is still no release time frame anywhere in sight, there is a new video showcasing part of the creation process of The Secret World - at least in the form of one of the factions in the game. You will be surprised that the Templars are also nothing akin to the real world or the Assassin's Creed version of the society. Read More...

Lord Of The Rings Online Free-To-Play Goes Live Sept 10th
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 18th of August 2010 - 11:05 PM ]
Looks like players of Lord of the Rings Online will not have to wait much longer for the highly anticipated Free-to-Play content update. Today it was announced that Turbine will be releasing the update on September 10th. The entire free-to-play structure has been under close scrutiny by fans and the press alike. In response to that, Turbine has conducted a fairly long beta test of the new material. The update is not made up of just the new economic model. Read More...
