World of Warcraft Breaks Record Sales...Again

Cataclysm not only rocked the world of Azeroth but also shattered its previous records. Blizzard out sold its previous expansion Wrath of the Lich King sales of 2.8 million and its Starcraft 2 July release sales of 1.5 million. With over 12 million current subscribers it doesn't look like the world of Azeroth is going away anytime soon.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm was simultaneously released in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand on December 7, and became available in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on December 9. More than 10,000 stores throughout the world opened their doors at midnight to welcome players who wanted to be among the first to obtain a copy of the expansion. In addition, more than 15,000 players attended official launch events hosted by Blizzard and key retail partners in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK, and the region of Taiwan.

With probably the smoothest launch Blizzard has had with any of the expansions, I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more players added to the current subscriber list. There should be a website that says "DING" every time Blizzard gets another 1 million subscribers. Check out the official press release.
