Nintendo Reminds Us They Have Games
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 18th of August 2010 - 05:19 PM ]
With Gamescom 2010 getting into full swing with news and announcements, Nintendo decided they wanted to remind its consumers that they too have games coming out this fall and that you won't want to miss them. Two games in particular were given solid release dates. Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns were big hits at E3 this year and have been generating huge buzz for their impending arrival. While I could never get close enough to play Kirby's Epic Yarn, I did have an opportunity to play with our large, simian friend. If you didn't catch my thoughts in our E3 podcasts, I can tell you here that the game is addictive... Read More...

by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 10th of August 2010 - 08:37 PM ]
In the latest Game Developers Diary for the much anticipated action FPS Brink, we learn the story behind the Ark. This post apocalyptic battle rages within this compound which houses way more citizens than it was designed for. So now this takes us to the story line, which is the turtle vs. the hare. You have on one side the resistance camp that is out of resources due to overpopulation, and think that the islands security has been hoarding their resources, and need to start sharing the wealth. Thus begins the close quarters civil war. Read More...

Let's Do Some More Testing
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 7th of July 2010 - 10:17 PM ]
In case you didn't get enough of the For-PSN-Only reality show The Tester, it was officially announced at E3 that Sony is doing a second season. Not exactly a big surprise, it was slipped into the other PlayStation news as just another bullet point. I mean, all the PS3 fans and users had to figure it was coming as it made some of the largest draws into PS Home and on the PS Store. This is not what this article is all about. Just after the 4th of July, voting began for contestants to get a chance to move onto the second round of the casting process. Read More...

Hunted: The Demons Forge
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 25th of June 2010 - 03:38 PM ]
Dungeon crawlers are making a comeback in this current over-saturation of first person shooters. One of the newest titles announced from Bethesda Softworks, and publisher inExile Entertainment is Hunted: The Demons Forge. This new title is built around the Unreal 3 Engine, and it looks amazing. Focusing on exploration, cover-based combat, puzzles and co-op play, all from a third person perspective, this looks like a must have title for any player that wanted to just rock hordes of monsters with their buddy. Hunted: The Demons Forge comes to life in a third-person dungeon crawl with the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter. For those that don't know inExile entertainment was founded back in 2003 by Brian Fargo. Read More...

E3 2010 Impression: Spec Ops: The Line
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010 - 08:34 PM ]
At this year's E3 it seem like everyone and their mother had some sort of shooter that will be coming out later this holiday season or sometime in 2011. Yager Productions and 2K games is no exceptions where they showcase Spec Ops: The Line for the first time. If for some odd reason you do not know much about this game then here is a little something about the game. Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person modern military shooter where you choose your own path in the game base on tough and unimaginable choices that you have to make on the field. The field where you have to make those choices, the destroyed city of Dubai. Read More...

E3 2010: Stock full of Trailers
by Binh Nguyen [ Wednesday, 16th of June 2010 - 03:39 PM ]
So apparently, waiting was not on the agenda in the days prior to E3 opening.  What I mean by that is just the other day on Spike TV - they had their pre-E3 show where they showed a lot of the new trailers that previously, we would have had to wait until the actual show to see these trailers. But since we all live on the Internet, instant gratification is all we have time for anymore. So here you guys go with bunch of trailers of Socom 4, Killzone 3, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Dead Space 2, Devils Third, Gran Turismo 5 and Shank. Hope you all enjoy. Read More...

Enslaved - Terminator Without The Time Travel
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 9th of June 2010 - 01:30 PM ]
Here we go with another "E3 video" brought to the public a week early. I swear there will be nothing new for us media and industry types to look at on the floor. Everything is getting out like Sony's 2009 E3 big announcements. You remember that? In any instance, here is a new look at Enslaved from Namco and Ninja Theory. A nice video letting us know what is going on and why in 150 years from now society is running around a post-apocalyptic world. Let me give you the run down. Read More...

LARPing With Game Nation
by Binh Nguyen [ Wednesday, 26th of May 2010 - 05:13 PM ]
So I have this idea. What if we build a theme park and make it an all video game themed so you can re-live your gaming experience? Sounds awesome right? Wait, someone already thought of that idea? And are looking for a location to build it? Well dang it all! If you don't know what I am talking about, Game Nation is going to be a name you will be hearing for quite a while as they are gearing up to make our live-action role-playing dreams come true as they are in search for a location for the world's first “Experiential Video Game Theme Park and Resort”. So pretty much they are going to be one hell of a LARPing experience to me. Not much was said in the press release except the grand announcement for this theme park and resort. Read More...

Looks Like More Space Marines In Quantum Theory
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 19th of May 2010 - 11:02 PM ]
Am I right or am I right? I mean look at these new screen shots for Quantum Theory and tell me they don't look like the team from Gears of War are not running in a new world. Or I mean a living tower. Not that the scenes and graphics look bad, it just looks a lot like stuff we have already had hashed out to us a plethora of times. But I guess these are not all about the story and why the characters look the way they do. They are about how the game is going to look in whole, so let's look at it from that perspective. Mytheon Being Held Hostage By VooDoo
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 12th of May 2010 - 04:46 PM ]
Just when you thought it was safe for us to poke our heads out and not hear about some new legal action taking place between video game companies, (Activision and Infinity Ward I'm looking at you) a new one hits. Not between those two though, but between a couple smaller companies, Petroglyph Games and True Games. Before you ask, no it is not about who gets to keep "Games" in their title. It is about their joint venture on the MMORTS Mytheon. Read More...

Brian G Asks: WTF is up with DLC?
by Brian Goodman [ Monday, 26th of April 2010 - 04:20 PM ]
It's an exciting time to be a gamer because there is definitely a lot of pivotal stuff going on in our industry right now. Today I want to go on about a reasonably new development of an old concept. Expansion packs have been around since the mid 90's in the PC world. Back when the PC dinosaurs ruled the video game landscape (and just about any game could be played on any computer without a video card that costs more than a PS3), if there was a successful game, a half a year or so later we would see an expansion pack. People who enjoyed a game could purchase more content for around $20 to $30-ish. Don't quote me on this, but the first expansion in my memory was the level add on pack for Doom II released in 1995 called "Doom II Master Levels. Read More...
