Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta Is Just Around The Corner *UPDATE*
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 10th of October 2011 - 10:02 PM ]
According to an interview with Todd Harris the COO of Hi-Rez Studios has announced a closed beta for Tribes: Ascend will begin November 4th! The confirmation came during an interview with Cyberlink. I got my hands-on with Tribes: Ascend at this year's Quakecon: 2011 and it is as close to the original that any game could get. Large 16 multiplayer maps, armor and weapon load outs and a disc-launcher that would make any FPS proud. The biggest hook is that this is team based combat and it really shows on these large maps. by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 8th of September 2011 - 10:58 PM ]
Cryptic Studios has just announced that it's highly acclaimed MMORPG Star Trek Online will be free-to-play before the end of this year. The game will also be downloadable and playable at no cost! "In addition to seeking out new life and exploring strange new civilizations, part of our continuing mission for Star Trek Online is to expand and improve," said Jack Emmert, CEO, Cryptic Studios. "Transitioning to a free-to-play model is a natural way to share all we've built with a broader community of players and we couldn't be more excited." So later this year we will see STO go free-to-play, with features that include customizing avatars, crews and ships just like normal and no limitations to the galaxy they wish to explore. Kingdom of Amalur E3 Gameplay Trailer
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 9th of June 2011 - 06:35 AM ]
With some of the biggest names in the realm of high fantasy, and judging by the latest E3 trailer, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is not going to disappoint. Magic, rebirth, hack n' slash combat, this trailer does it all and for the first time we get a little background on the storyline. It's a really great look at the extensive world created by R.A. Salvatore and the team at 38 Studios. Read More...

Neverwinter's New E3 Trailer
by Corey Dockendorf [ Wednesday, 8th of June 2011 - 04:30 PM ]
I haven't had much luck with Dungeons and Dragons games lately, but for some reason I am still really excited for Neverwinter. The last time I talked about Neverwinter was in August of last year. At that time, all we had was a place holder website and a few comments from Cryptic Studios. We finally get our first look at Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter at E3 this year, and I can say one thing for sure - it looks like Dungeons and Dragons. So there you have it, another Dungeons and Dragons title by Atari. I was a little more excited for this title before I played Daggerdale, but hopefully Cryptic Studios will not let this product fall by the wayside. Read More...

Klassic Skins And Skarlet DLC Coming Soon To Mortal Kombat
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 31st of May 2011 - 09:03 PM ]
So that didn't take long at all. A little under two months out from launch and we are getting all those pretty pre-order exclusives for Mortal Kombat hitting the open market. I get that those who pre-ordered the game at a specific location have had access to whichever klassic character skin and fatality from day one, but do you feel any kind of special for being that big of a fan? I know I'd feel a little cheated as the proof of my fandom is now being given out to anyone who wants it now. The collection consists of seven pre-order klassic character skins (Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Mileena, Jade and Kitana) and klassic fatalities (Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero). Read More...

Up Close And Personal With Mortal Kombat's Shang Tsung
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 8th of April 2011 - 03:42 PM ]
It wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without Shang Tsung. We all know he is in the game, but wouldn't you like to see/hear his story in this outing? How different can it be from all of the older titles? I mean, seriously. Well let's see what has been cooked up for him in the new Mortal Kombat. Ok… So nothing all that new as far as the story goes. Although I do have to say that the Fatality shown is pretty fucking cool. I want to make people knowingly pull their own heads off and be powerless to stop it. Read More...

Who Is AMY? Besides A New Survival Horror For The PSN...
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 7th of April 2011 - 06:06 PM ]
So we heard a little about this a few months ago. A new survival horror on the PSN called Amy. There have been a few screens thrown up for our approval, but then there has been nothing much. This is odd seeing as VectorCell Studios and Lexis Numérique are aiming for a June 2011 release. You'd think we would have more, which ends the lead in here. Today we are given just a bit more on AMY, a game that seems to be all about one of the things that are despised in Survival Horror games; escort missions. Yep, the overview of the story and game play make it seem to be 90% escort mission and the other 10% a mix of everything else. Read More...

It's Time For Mortal Kombat!
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 6th of April 2011 - 05:38 PM ]
It is official. Mortal Kombat has gone gold. We no longer have to worry about major delays or cancelations. Not that we were at all. It is no Duke Nukem Forever or anything. Am I right? Huh? Huh…? Now as we wait for April 19th to slowly work its way to us, we get to pass the time looking at screens and videos. That is if you have played the demo to death since it came out. If you did, below we have a few more screens to add to the mix as we wait a few more weeks. Read More...

So What Is Up With The Story Of F.3.A.R.
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 1st of April 2011 - 06:04 PM ]
It has been a bit since we've had some good and solid updates for F.3.A.R. I guess it is time to get another look and a story trailer. Thank you Warner Bros. and Day 1 Studios for giving us just that. STORY TIME! Looks like someone has some serious "mommy issues." Not to mention that they look to have lead to some even deeper and twisted results besides becoming a man-whore. That's what happens isn't it? Like the opposite of a girl having "daddy issues? The Unofficial Character Roster For Mortal Kombat
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 28th of March 2011 - 06:27 PM ]
So if you had any questions on exactly who is going to be in Mortal Kombat, you may be able to get a look now as it may have been leaked out. As of this article, there has been no word on how official this image and roster is so do not get overly excited as of yet. I mean it does look pretty spot on from all the videos and announcements, not to mention it would be an amazing fake, but I'm waiting for word from Warner Bros. or NetherRealm first. If you do want to put total faith in this, here is a breakdown of who is listed here. Read More...

by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 11th of March 2011 - 04:57 PM ]
At GDC last week Curt Schilling took the stage and showed off one of the most buzzed about games from 38 Studios and EA, Kingdom of Amlur: Reckoning. The last time we heard about any production with this game was in July of last year when they announced it and we didn't get much then. Well today we got some goodies for you guys in the form of in game screen shots. Although not much was spoken of at GDC, these images will make any gamers sweat with anticipation. Schilling leads the project with Todd McFarlane, R. Read More...

Mortal Kombat Has A New Challenge For You
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 3rd of March 2011 - 09:38 PM ]
Man we should have seen this coming. The "Test Your Might" mini-games of Mortal Kombat fame are coming with the new games launch. Only this time they are way more detailed and quite a few more than I remember. Like almost 299 more challenges than I remember from previous versions of the franchise I have played. I clearly remember only the block breaking challenges of the old arcade versions so please excuse if I don't know of any others. In case there are some differences between my past numbers and your past numbers of challenges, there will be 300 challenges coming on disc. Read More...

Under The Radar: 38 Studios
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 28th of February 2011 - 06:50 PM ]
By Matt Waitt What happens when you bring a former Boston Redsox pitcher, a New York Times best-selling author, the creative mind behind Spawn and the Lead Designer from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? Easy, you get 38 Studios. Founded in 2006 and headed by the former Boston Redsox pitcher Curt Schilling, 38 Studios has their first title Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning coming out later this fall. With Todd McFarlane (Spawn, McFarlane Toys) heading the Art Direction it is safe to expect nothing short of an amazing looking game. His work at Marvel comics on Spider-Man has left such a deep mark that the Spider-Man we know and love today was partially thanks to Todd. Read More...

Review: Saw II: Flesh And Blood
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 29th of November 2010 - 07:47 PM ]
Another year and another, and touted as the last, Saw film and a new Saw game to go along with it. Some would say that the whole franchise has been going downhill for a long while now, on the film side, and Saw: The Video Game was not all that well received by gamers. "So why even make a sequel?" is what you have to be thinking. Is it to cash in on the last legs of the franchise? Read More...

Review: TerRover
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 21st of October 2010 - 11:06 PM ]
Creat Studios generated a lot of buzz when it showed its downloadable title, TerRover, at E3 this summer. Then when the demo was dropped exclusively for PlayStation Plus members, excitement for the game was off the charts. Sensitive controls and dynamic game play showed the promise of a precision platformer – something the hardcore gaming community can always get behind. TerRover embraces and champions the game design concept of Trial by Death. Trial by Death is the process by which the player acquires knowledge of the game and its systems of control by forging forward without the necessary information to succeed, relying on continuous failure to derive the correct solution.
