How To Make A Better Call Of Duty
by Matt Waitt [ Friday, 5th of April 2013 - 10:53 PM ]
With yearly installments coming from two different teams of developers and a horde of mindless followers, I felt it would be nice if I gave my two cents on how to improve upon the stagnant Call of Duty formula before it turns into the next Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. So let's see what's wrong with the formula now. 1.) Lag Compensation. Read More…

New Poker Night From Telltale
by [ Thursday, 4th of April 2013 - 07:09 PM ]
Big news in the world of witty cross-over card game simulators. Telltale Games has recently announced that Poker Night at the Inventory is getting a sequel. According to the Telltale's website, “Poker Night 2 is the unnecessary sequel to Poker Night at the Inventory! In the original game you played poker with a bunch of weirdoes for fame and fortune Team Fortress 2 items and the satisfaction of beating the odds.” The original game had you playing against Max from Sam&Max, Strong Bad from Homestar Runner, The Heavy from Team Fortress 2, and Tycho from Penny Arcade. This time around you will be able to play against Max’s partner Sam, Claptrap from Borderlands, Brock Sampson from Venture Brothers, and Ash Williams from Evil Dead. Read More…

PAX East Panel: Red5 Studios
by Fred Buell [ Wednesday, 3rd of April 2013 - 08:15 PM ]
This past PAX East 2013 I was lucky enough to be seated in a room with several other members of the press and general attendees to hear about all things Red5. Let's first talk about Red5's Firefall. I first got to play and look at Firefall at last year's PAX East. The game is still in beta and being constantly worked on and taking serious looks at what the fans want in the game. Right off the bat of this presser was informative and entertaining. They have moved away from the previous 'Tier' and 'Level' based system and instead opted for a gear based system. Read More…

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag - Game Play Trailer
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 28th of March 2013 - 11:19 PM ]
Earlier this month we had the official announcement of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag with not much to go on other than the time period of the story and the culture it is based around. During the reign of Blackbeard and pirates for those who are just now following along. No matter which you are, we now have a bit of game play from Black Flag and it looks like Ubisoft is trying to focus on the naval combat that debuted back in ACIII not so very long ago. It also looks like we will get to punch sharks in the gills during underwater scenes of the game, so there is also that. I'll be honest; I have yet to actually play AC III nor any of the 'spin off' titles that launched alongside so I have no clue how well or poorly this new mechanic actually handled in the games. PAX East Hands On: Swimsanity
by Kenton Winkfield [ Thursday, 28th of March 2013 - 06:13 PM ]
One of the last titles I got to see at PAX East was an incredible amount fun and I'm not just saying that because I got to beat my friends down in it. Swimsanity was one of my favorite titles that I got to play at PAX East. The best part is it's not even finished yet. I got to speak with the whole team of Decoy Games, a new indie developer company that is responsible for the amazing Swimsanity and they confirmed that there will be many more features and maps besides what's been showcased at PAX East. Decoy Games is an independent gaming company started by two brothers, Ahmed and Khalil Abdullah. After exploring their passion for gaming, and finding they had an ability to create games, they began to build what they call team Decoy. Read More…

PAX East Interview: WildStar
by Matt Waitt [ Wednesday, 27th of March 2013 - 08:59 PM ]
Last week I had the pleasure of snagging WildStar's Senior 3D Artist, Stephan Williams, for an interview and demo of Carbine Studio's and NC Soft's upcoming MMORPG. Although he was not able to answer every question we sure hounded him for a solid twenty minutes or so. I was joined with two special guests, TJ Jensen and Erik Gmitter. Together we were blown away by the amazing graphics, animations, and features that they had to show off in the PAX East demo. The story behind WildStar is thus; the home world of the long lost Eldan civilization has just been rediscovered and everyone in the galaxy is racing to find out its secrets. Read More…

PAX East Hands On: Daylight
by Kenton Winkfield [ Wednesday, 27th of March 2013 - 04:19 PM ]
I’ve said it before; it's tough not to grab my attention when I get shown a video game. But it is tough to pull me away from one that already has my attention. Zombie Studios showcased their game Daylight at the Astro Headset Booth, which was close to Square Enix, my favorite developer/publisher, and right next to Wizards of the Coast, makers of my favorite TCG, Magic: The Gathering. This is an incredibly difficult location for a game to be showcased if it wants to keep my attention. Zombie Studios had no trouble reaching that feat. Read More…

PAX East Impressions: Guacamelee!
by Fred Buell [ Tuesday, 26th of March 2013 - 11:28 PM ]
This weekend I got to sit down with Graham Smith the co-founder of Drinkbox Studios. He showed me Drinkbox's new game Guacamelee! and I must say it's a nice blend of classic Metroidvania style action and Megaman style platforming. Guacamelee! has a 'dual world' feature where you have to jump through portals to navigate the levels. These two worlds are called The World of the Living and The World of the Dead. You will come across enemies that are shrouded in shadow that cannot be attacked, as they are in the other world, but simply jumping in a portal will allow you to defeat said enemy. Read More…

PAX East Interview: Charlie Murder
by Matt Waitt [ Tuesday, 26th of March 2013 - 08:48 PM ]
On day one of PAX East I had the privilege to snag James Silva and Michelle Juett Silva, the punks behind SKA Studios, and pulled them aside for an interview. We talked about their upcoming game Charlie Murder; a Punk's love letter to Dungeons and Dragons with a lot of references and personal touches. We also talked about how insane Boston's roadways are, and much more. Here are some highlights from the interview. Read More…

PAX East Hands On: Outlast
by Kenton Winkfield [ Tuesday, 26th of March 2013 - 06:44 PM ]
PAX East was home to many Indie games this year. So many, that most of the games were located in a section called the Indie Mega Booth. Outlast was one of the games that had their setup in this area. Outlast comes from the brand new indie developers Red Barrels. The company is a 10 man team from Montreal, with each person having experience working with companies such as THQ, EA, and Ubisoft. The team joined up to create and deliver incredibly unforgettable single-player games. With Outlast being their first game, I can say they have already found themselves a comfortable spot in my memory bank. Read More…

by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 25th of March 2013 - 11:14 PM ]
It's been a bit since we have heard anything about rain hasn't it? It was announced at Gamescom last year, but that's bee about it since then hasn't it? It would sure be great if we received some kind of update huh? You know things like, what the game is about and how does it handle? Wait? What's this? A new game play trailer fresh off the press from Sony? I'll bite. Read More…

Pax East: Saints Row IV Preview
by Greg Tatterfield [ Monday, 25th of March 2013 - 06:11 PM ]
Deep Silver was at PAX East during the weekend to show off their recently purchased game Saints Row IV. Volition started the demo by explaining the games new story. Saints Row IV takes the leader of the Saints and makes him the president of the United States. But all is not well as the leader of the Saints have been captured by aliens and placed in a virtual version of Steel port. The new story direction allows Volition to make Saints Row even crazier. One of the biggest changes coming in Saints Row IV is allowing your character to use superpowers. Read More…

Let's Get To Know Elizabeth From BioShock Infinite
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 21st of March 2013 - 05:57 PM ]
With just under a week from launch it looks like it would be a good time to showcase one of the main characters from BioShock Infinite wouldn't it? Of course it is. This is why Irrational Games has released the following "dev diary" all about Elizabeth and everything that went into making her walk, talk, and not being an annoying escort mission pain in the ass. If you are trying to be a purist and have as little info about BioShock Infinite before playing the game proper, you don't have anything to worry with the following video. Unless you really care about a small scene were Elizabeth tries to get Booker to dance with her and very basic level scenes. Read More…

New Metro: Last Light Trailer Shows Us Salvation
by Matt Waitt [ Wednesday, 20th of March 2013 - 10:52 PM ]
The guys over at 4A Games have just released a new trailer for the upcoming Metro: Last Light. This trailer features a lot of Neo-Nazi's, executions of civilians, and a little surprise at the very end. For those who don't know, Metro: Last Light and Metro 2033 are based off the international best seller by Dimitry Glukhovsky. The Metro franchise takes place in a post-apocalyptic Russia where a nuclear war has ravaged the entire earth forcing humanity to live underground. But they're not alone. Read More…

Interview With Obsidian's Chris Avellone
by Fred Buell [ Wednesday, 20th of March 2013 - 06:33 PM ]
The last few months I have been emailing back and forth with Chris Avellone; Co-Founder of Obsidian Entertainment; conducting an interview over email. This has culminated in one of the most in-depth, and amazing interviews I have done, or seen anywhere. Enjoy. Aggrogamer: First let's talk about the old days. You started off at Black Isle with Brian Fargo and a lot of the guys at Obsidian working on the Fallout titles and some of the Gold Seal DnD games. How was it helping shape modern RPGs at the time?
