E3 2010: Sights And Sounds
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 29th of June 2010 - 06:54 PM ]
It has been over a week now since E3 closed its doors. Since then I have been pouring over the many pictures I snapped - from the Activision Party to the Nintendo and Sony presser to everything else in between. I also managed to film some of the Method Man and Redman concert at the Konami booth. You may think it is all fun and games when you are at E3, and at times can be, but it is also a lot of hard work. We work tirelessly to bring you the latest news, impressions and hands-on articles as quickly as we can. We also met a lot of great people and miss the ones we didn't get a chance to meet up with. E3 2010 Hands On: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
by Binh Nguyen [ Monday, 28th of June 2010 - 04:31 PM ]
At E3 2009 Konami showed a trailer, for the first time, for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Needless to say, it took nearly everyone by surprised. A year later Konami showcased the game with a playable demo. I wasn't able to play the full length of the game but I still played long enough to talk about what I played. The demo started off in the rainy village, where Gabriel has come to find leads about the whereabouts of a powerful unnamed entity. As Gabriel rides up on his horse he is sees villagers leaving the town. Read More…

E3 2010: Getting our Move on
by Brian Bentley [ Sunday, 27th of June 2010 - 04:27 AM ]
After witnessing the success of the Nintendo Wii, the market for games using motion control steamed up at last year’s E3 with the announcement of Microsoft’s Natal Kinect and Sony’s Playstation Move.  Fast-forward a year to this year’s E3 and to Sony’s booth where Binh and I were able to spend a little time with the Playstation Move.  Let the waggle begin. With a lot of E3 focused on either 3D gaming or motion control, Sony’s Eyepet gives you plenty of both. E3 2010 Hands-On: Mafia 2
by Binh Nguyen [ Saturday, 26th of June 2010 - 09:55 PM ]
At E3 2009, when 2K Games made their announcement about making a sequel for Mafia, I was excited on the idea. That excitement grew after playing the demo for the first time at PAX East in Boston. I wanted to play more. A year later, once again 2K Games is showcasing Mafia 2. This time with a much longer hands-on demo of the game. The demo began with you playing as Vito. You are making your way towards the phone as it's ringing off the hook in a '50's house in a typical suburban surrounding. Read More…

I'm Getting A Call From Naughty Bear
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 25th of June 2010 - 11:47 PM ]
With all the hulabaloo from E3, I almost lost sight of one of this year's titles that I have personally been excited for. That game being Naughty Bear. Yes I did get some hands on, but it looks like the little bugger tried slipping a few new clips and a trailer past me before I could take a look at them to ensure my rules have not been further plagiarized. Wait, three new videos? You cheeky monkey. Read More…

Hunted: The Demons Forge
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 25th of June 2010 - 03:38 PM ]
Dungeon crawlers are making a comeback in this current over-saturation of first person shooters. One of the newest titles announced from Bethesda Softworks, and publisher inExile Entertainment is Hunted: The Demons Forge. This new title is built around the Unreal 3 Engine, and it looks amazing. Focusing on exploration, cover-based combat, puzzles and co-op play, all from a third person perspective, this looks like a must have title for any player that wanted to just rock hordes of monsters with their buddy. Hunted: The Demons Forge comes to life in a third-person dungeon crawl with the intensity and action of a modern-day shooter. For those that don't know inExile entertainment was founded back in 2003 by Brian Fargo. Read More…

E3 2010 Impressions: Mortal Kombat
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 24th of June 2010 - 09:13 PM ]
As surprises come, a revitalization of Mortal Kombat was one thing I was not expecting until just before E3. You know when the crazy short popped up online followed by the new teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat. You know what I am talking about. If you didn't you would not have clicked on this article. With all that buzz just days before the event you would expect to have something to show at E3 for it, and boy did they. Nothing playable for anyone on the show floor, but those lucky enough to have a meeting or willing to stand in line for over an hour to get in to the 15 minute showing got a great glimpse of what is going on with the new Mortal Kombat game. E3 2010 Impression: Civilization V
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 24th of June 2010 - 05:08 PM ]
We've all been there. Light creeping over the horizon, you blearily look away from the monitor before you, slowly coming to the realization that many hours have passed – too many. Remorse settles in, but under that, a sense of appreciation for a game that can hold that kind of sway. Sid Meier's Civilization franchise has been at the root of many of those aforementioned nights for people around the globe. The franchise's newest member – Civilization V – was shown at E3 this year. Civilization V is the culmination of two and half years of development by Firaxis Games. Read More…

E3 2010 Hands-On: Final Fantasy XIV
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 24th of June 2010 - 03:04 PM ]
Now here is a title that I was overly excited to get to look at, and that is all I planned on happening this year at E3. Little did I know we would actually get to play hands on this up-and-coming bad-ass "sequel" in the Final Fantasy franchise. Hands-on with two of the major components for an MMO to boot: the character creation and a bit of the combat system. Let me break them down into two sections for you, with pictures. At least screen shots since pictures were not taken too kindly in the sectioned off tent in the Square Enix booth. Read More…

E3 2010 Impressions: Dead Space 2
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of June 2010 - 08:51 PM ]
Hidden in the back corner, deep within the confines of the EA booth was a small Church of Unitology. Within the church was a plethora of wooden pews with "hymn" books placed before them. As we were ushered in, the electronic candles dimmed and we were greeted with a short introduction. Pleasantries dispatched, we hopped right into the game play of Dead Space 2. Now from watching the EA and Sony press conferences, you may be thinking that you have already received all the visual goodness Visceral Games had to show for Dead Space 2. Well, you are pretty much correct, at least as far as content is concerned. Read More…

E3 2010 Impression: XCOM
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 23rd of June 2010 - 06:06 PM ]
Idyllic ‘50s America - apple pie, baseball and... aliens? In XCOM by 2K Marin, you seek to remove that third tag, bringing peace to our tiny planet from the threat of alien invasion. The legendary title is back with a new spin on an old story. So, put on your pinstripes and suspenders and get ready for this new first person shooter. The story: you are Special Agent William Carter, head of the FBI’s XCom division - a clandestine organization tasked to locate research and ultimately eliminate the new, unknown force that is seemingly ripping apart America silently from within. As I walked into the demo room at E3, it felt more like stepping back in time with the entire room mocked up as a ‘50s kitchen. Read More…

E3 2010 Hands-On: Saw II: Flesh & Blood
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 23rd of June 2010 - 04:03 PM ]
Yes, Konami is making another video game based on the Saw film franchise. Before you start with your "They're Making Another One?!?" comments, remember it is because most of you continue to pay for the films and games, even though you harp on them. Maybe you do it with hopes of improvement to the franchise or, like me, you just love the mind trips and traps. Who doesn't like some insane traps that make you think "That is F'ed Up!"? Read More…

Review: Alien Breed Impact
by Corey Dockendorf [ Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010 - 10:53 PM ]
Alien Breed: Impact is a nostalgic nod to the classic top down arcade style shooter. Players take on the role of Conrad, a systems engineer who when it comes to weapons is a jack of all trades. If it shoots, blows something up or catches something on fire, you can bet that good ol' Conrad knows how to use it. Your ship is under attack by a swarm of Aliens and you will delve deep into the ship shooting anything that moves in an attempt to regain control. To keep things moving, at the beginning of every level you receive a cut-scene in the comic-book panel format filling you in on the story, along with full voice overs by individual characters. E3 2010 Impression: Spec Ops: The Line
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010 - 08:34 PM ]
At this year's E3 it seem like everyone and their mother had some sort of shooter that will be coming out later this holiday season or sometime in 2011. Yager Productions and 2K games is no exceptions where they showcase Spec Ops: The Line for the first time. If for some odd reason you do not know much about this game then here is a little something about the game. Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person modern military shooter where you choose your own path in the game base on tough and unimaginable choices that you have to make on the field. The field where you have to make those choices, the destroyed city of Dubai. Read More…

E3 2010 Hands-On: Splatterhouse
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 22nd of June 2010 - 01:19 PM ]
Much like God Of War and Naughty Bear, if you have been following anything I have been writing about, Splatterhouse has been one of the other major titles I have been dying to hear more about. I want to see if it is going to be a good retelling of the original story from 1988 or at least worth a pick up if nostalgia isn't playing a factor in your personal debate to give Splatterhouse a chance. So how does this revitalization look? Well, let's say that there is a reason E3 is suppose to be an 18+ show. Read More…
