Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person modern military shooter where you choose your own path in the game base on tough and unimaginable choices that you have to make on the field. The field where you have to make those choices, the destroyed city of Dubai. Once the playground for the world's wealthiest elite, Dubai has been hit by a series of cataclysmic sandstorms. So needless to say the majority of the city is now covered in sand. As U.S. Army Captain Martin Walker, you and your elite Delta Force will experience “The Line,” the razor's edge known only to men who deal in war. It is the line they cross when death and duty become one and the same. It is the end or self sanity when their duty is done and only they remain.
So now that we got that out of the way. Lets talk about the demo that we got to see at the 2K booth.
At first glance it looked like your typical third-person shooter with a framerate that stayed clear over 30 frames per second the entire demo. Which I really liked. They started the demo inside one of the buildings and quickly ended up in the streets of Dubai. I'll admit production value of the game looked great. There were stunning explosions and a familiar combat system. The sounds of the weapons were decent at best but the effects of the guns on the other hand was amazing. I sort of loved the character animation and death animations when they got shot by a shotgun. The cover system is really similar to Uncharted 2, using broken walls, vehicles or anything that you can use to cover from enemy fire.
My Take:
Granted I did walk away from this demo thinking it as a possible forgettable title, but also a possible sleeper title which unless you give it a shot you will probably be missing out. Unless I get some real hands on with Spec Ops: The Line, I will be close to the fence on this title. I am looking forward on hearing more about Spec Ops: The Line. It is schedule to be released sometime in 2011.
