Review: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 12th of October 2009 - 07:39 PM ]
Here we go again with the new age Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider game that we all loved, quite literally, 2 years ago. Only this time, it's a different artifact being tracked and a new villain for Drake and friends to out smart. All of it has a very epic, action film taste to it. Evading guards, traversing a modern warfare and running through the snow in Tibet make for a great adventure along with a very witty and humorous feel mixed in. Now we've all heard and seen the hype for this game. It was selected as Best of Show at E3 this year and is already slated to capture best game of the year. Read More...

Review: Mini Ninjas
by Corey Dockendorf [ Monday, 12th of October 2009 - 12:39 PM ]
Let me start out by saying I really enjoyed this game. I was really excited about the game when I first heard about it but as time went on I became concerned it would be too childish. Yes it’s very cartoony and yes when you kill creatures they turn into fuzzy animals, but somewhere in the midst of all that I had a blast playing this game! The game-play is very simple and even the story line is not to complex, so it’s perfect for kids. With that in mind I was highly intrigued by this game. Read More...

Review: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 9th of October 2009 - 02:47 PM ]
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (titled sequel to the original Operation Flashpoint from 2001, the developer, Bohemia Interactive, preferred ArmA to be the original's sequel. Dragon Rising was developed not by Bohemia Interactive, but in house by Codemasters) positions itself not so much as an action FPS but moreso as a realistic battle simulation. If you would rather have something that's more run-and-gun, one man army, headshots left and right, nade spamming, knife stabbing free for all than maybe you should stick to Battlefield: Bad Company or Call of Duty 4. But if you want something realistic that requires tact and deft to win, then OF:DR is your game. Read More...

Review: Dead Space Extraction
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 5th of October 2009 - 07:42 PM ]
It all started just a little under a year ago. The exploration of terror in space in a nice little title called Dead Space. A game that I reviewed as my game of the year last year. A game that I deemed brought back those feelings of the first time you cracked open Resident Evil on the PlayStation. Just like RE you were left with loads of questions and left wanting more. Now along comes Dead Space: Extraction. Dead Space: Extraction lets players roll through all the events that lead up to Isaac and crew rolling through the USG Ishimura in fear of getting back off with their lives physically and mentally stable. Review: Canabalt
by Kevin [ Monday, 5th of October 2009 - 05:14 PM ]
What you see below you is the scenario that Canabalt presents. You begin the game fleeing from a crumbling building and whatever has assaulted that building is following you, and all you can do is run and leap to potential safety. The counter in the upper right will tell you how far you have been able to travel in your attempted escape. The maker of the game, Adam Saltsman, made a post over at the Experimental Game Project about the original version, "I made Canabalt in 5 very long days (at least 60 hours) – 1 day at the start of the month, two days at PromJam, and then this weekend. Danny B made the music for it tonight. Read More...

Review: Gran Turismo (PSP)
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 2nd of October 2009 - 02:10 PM ]
Gran Turismo PSP, what was supposed to be a launch game (it kinda did in some ways with the PSPGo) in 2004 is finally out now, and available as a download for the PSPGo or a physical UMD for the rest, you alternatively could download the game for any PSP. The graphics are good, really good in fact. The detail that the cars are given is extensive seeing as the game is only about 1.2 gb; the graphics compare to a really good Dreamcast/early PS2 game and runs at a smooth and steady 60fps. The audio is just as good, however some of the sounds do get a bit repetitive. Read More...

Review: Scribblenauts
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 29th of September 2009 - 04:06 AM ]
There are times when you are playing a game that you simply say “They got it right.”  It could be during a puzzle or moving through open spaces or fighting enemy AI, but usually it only happens once or twice, or if you’re lucky, several times.  Imagine playing a game that gives you that feeling in almost every one of the 220 puzzles packaged into that tiny Nintendo DS cartridge.  Welcome to Scribblenauts. You play as Maxwell. Nier is Hopefully Not Too Far
by Kevin [ Friday, 25th of September 2009 - 03:21 PM ]
Nier,or Nier Gestalt as it goes by these days, is one of those titles that I really feel could go either way. It could be a really compelling experience with a narrative that draws you in with some really deep action elements, or it could be a largely forgettable title with little to allow it to stand out among other similar entries in the genre. The design of the game is decidedly Square Enix and if we have learned anything from their protagonists, there will be a rich melencholy right below the surface of the gruff devil may care attitude. Will the style of the game be enough? Read More...

Review: Need For Speed Shift
by Ben Brody [ Wednesday, 23rd of September 2009 - 12:01 PM ]
Let's be honest, NFS Undercover was bad, and EA knew it, that's why they handed development of the latest game in the series to Slightly Mad Studios, who had previously made the GTR series. The game encounters problems that aren't necessarily it's own fault. The driving is good, great even, the issue is that both Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 are coming out around the corner, and with most people's opinions about Need For Speed soured by the last iteration, it'll be hard to convince them to go with Shift. That said, EA does a really good job. It's nice to see EA ditch the ridiculous story mode (IE: undercover cop looking to bust an illegal drug trade by infiltrating some illegal street racing club) in favor of what a racing game should be about: THE RACING. Review: WET
by Michael Camacho [ Monday, 21st of September 2009 - 12:37 PM ]
Are you ready to get WET? Artificial Mind and Movement, the game's developers, sure hope you are. WET has been in the works for a long time, originally set to release under Sierra, but eventually dropped when acquired by Activision. It finally found its home amongst Bethesda Softworks. So will you dip your hands into this title and get them WET? WET, this is a shortened term for wetworks, which involves a messy job that involves hands being wet with blood. This is where our heroine, Rubi Malone (voiced by Eliza Dushku), comes into the picture. Read More...

Review: NHL 10
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 18th of September 2009 - 12:30 PM ]
NHL 10. NHL 09 was hands down the best hockey game of all time, and NHL 10 builds on that. So it's not as much of a leap from NHL 09 as Madden 10 was to Madden 09, but it is a big step in the right direction. And perhaps not taking a leap from NHL 09, which won a slew of sports game of the year awards, is a good thing. NHL 10 keeps the tradition that NHL 09 had, mix in a fairly realistic mode (an ultra realistic mode can be played in the game, with 20 minute periods and everything) with enough arcadiness to not turn off casual players, and have yourself some fun. The graphics are the same as is the audio, another job well done by Gary Thorne and Bill Clement (although they probably only spent about 5 hours recording the new audio), and the new crowd sounds make it feel that much more real. Review: Section 8
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 15th of September 2009 - 01:45 PM ]
At first glance, Section 8 looks like a Halo wannabe. At second glance it looks like a Tribes wannabe. At third glance it looks like a Battlefield wannabe. I'm not saying that a game that plays like those 3 games would be bad (heck, it'd probably be the best online shooter ever), but Section 8 seems to be lackluster in areas that each of those 3 game excelled in. The problem with that is while that Section 8 may be a solid game, the fact is that people are going to be playing the other 3 games that it is trying to emulate. Section 8 is a multiplayer only game, don't be fooled by the Corde's story campaign mode, it's basically a glorified bot mode with some random bits of story thrown about. Read More...

Review: Muramasa: The Demon Blade
by Michael Camacho [ Monday, 14th of September 2009 - 12:56 PM ]
It had been months since I last turned my Wii on, but that all changed with a single release for the system. Muramasa: The Demon Blade has arrived from Ignition Entertainment and I couldn’t have a better reason to utilize my Wii. Muramasa is the latest 2D Action RPG title developed by Vanilla Ware, the team behind Odin Sphere on the Playstation 2. The game revolves around two main characters, both set out on their own unique journeys. Momohime is a young princess who has had her soul forced out and body possessed by the demon Jinkuro. Avatar Droppings
by Kevin [ Friday, 11th of September 2009 - 04:02 PM ]
"Ever want to watch your Xbox Live Avatar plummet helplessly through the air and smash into things? Well now you can in the humorously cruel new game "Avatar Drop"! You and your friends can experience the side-splitting hilarity of watching your digital alter-egos bump, scream and crash their way through random obstacles." This is the official description of this indie title by the name of Avatar Drop. Now, from that description it sounds like Xbox Live has found it’s equivalent to Playstation favorite, “Pain. A Gamer's Review of 'Gamer'
by Kevin [ Wednesday, 9th of September 2009 - 12:02 PM ]
Quick Hit: Gamer seems to want to be a film about a future that is governed by our most base and decadent desires for sex and violence, but instead is a forgettable film that is wrought with questions but lacks the ability to provide any answers or establish a unique identity. Be forewarned. There are some spoilers ahead. So if you still plan on seeing the flick and want to be “surprised”, I’d wager you’d want to stop reading right about now. Still with me? Read More...
