Dragon Age DLC Announced: Return to Ostagar
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 19th of November 2009 - 08:04 PM ]
Today BioWare announced their next installment of downloadable content for their critically acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins will be available this holiday season.  Entitled as Return to Ostagar, players will be able to: A return to the battlefields of Ostagar, now thick with darkspawn encamped amidst the snow An opportunity to reclaim the lost arms and armor of a king A second chance to add Dog to your party The cheapest of the three DLC packs, Return to Ostagar will retail out at $4.99 on the PSN, 400 magical Microsoft Points and 400 magical BioWare Points.  I feel torn about all this content being released so soon after the full game's release. Review: Left 4 Dead 2
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 17th of November 2009 - 09:12 PM ]
Left 4 Dead 2, at its core, is the same game as it's predecessor: a zombie shooting game. But when you scratch the surface and look deeper, it's a much different game. Left 4 Dead was a fairly linear game, with 1 main path to take and while the guns and zombies may spawn in different places, it's pretty much the same the first few run throughs as the next few run throughs. Left 4 Dead 2 is different, it's a much more open experience, and while there still is one main path, there are several routes alongside it, making it so that you can get to the next safe room two or three different ways. More difficult paths, or longer ones, net you better equipment such as better weaponry or ammunition. Read More...

Project Natal Details Leaked?
by Ben Brody [ Sunday, 15th of November 2009 - 08:30 PM ]
So some news about Natal is making the rumor rounds. According to a member of a “secret tour of a Microsoft lab”, the controller-free movement only control system will come out November of 2010, which Microsoft had previously hinted at and then claimed bollocks. Microsoft hopes to have 5 million units available for purchase worldwide at the time of launch, some being sold with a 360, and some being sold on their own. The price would range anywhere from £30 to £50 (what the price would be in USD is anybody's guess at this point) and would have a fairly robust 14 launch games. We know that Criterion/EA had modified the popular Burnout Paradise to work with Natal, so maybe the 14 includes patches for some games. Read More...

Review: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 13th of November 2009 - 03:33 AM ]
As I looked at the massive amount of people at my local GameStop that were in line to pickup MW2, it dawned on me, this is the biggest, most anticipated, and what could be the best selling action game of all time. Over 300 people were standing in the cold for some four hours waiting for the same thing. Many of them planned on calling in sick the next day or skipping out on school just to get some playtime in. Many people were reminiscing about COD4 or saying how they played a bunch of COD4 to get psyched up about MW2. Read More...

You Naughty Little Angels Deserve A Good Spanking
by Ben Brody [ Sunday, 8th of November 2009 - 01:25 PM ]
Bayonetta is shaping up to be a really really good game, and if you go by what Famitsu says, it's the best game they've ever played. The game was met with strong sales in Japan this past week and is poised for a US release this upcoming January. If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting E3, PAX, ComicCon, or VGExpo, then you may be in for a treat. Sega has come up with a contest in which a select few will win early access to the demo for the XBOX 360.    Here's how to get it:  Visit this site and follow the instructions: http://www.s Read More...

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Impressions
by Brian Bentley [ Sunday, 8th of November 2009 - 03:07 AM ]
The impressions on the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer you are about to read are from our owner and friend, Andy Briggs.  When he isn't melting people's faces off on Xbox Live, you can find him on Pwned.com and Twitter.com.  Well with the release date on a few days away. I figured I would toss in my impressions of the multiplayer. Of course, it is quite reminiscent of the previous CoDs, this one just has a bit more of a special touch to it. Mainly, what I am talking about is the different types of achievements (can't remember what they are called) that accumulate to many different points. Read More...

The State of Gaming: 2010
by Ben Brody [ Tuesday, 27th of October 2009 - 04:14 PM ]
The state of gaming as of right now is about to get a whole lot better. With the 2009 fiscal year ending in October, it's finally time to say goodbye to a fairly bleak year, and say hello to a really good year. For the purposes of this article, I am writing about the fiscal years: 2009 means October of 2008 to September of 2009 with 2010 meaning October of 2009 to September of 2010 Sure, 2009 had it's hits: Fallout 3 Left 4 Dead Dead Space Rock Band 2/Rock Band Beatles/Guitar Hero World Tour/Guitar Hero 5/Lego Rock Band/Band Hero Fable 2 Call of Duty: World at War KillZone 2 Halo Wars Resident Evil 5 Batman Arkham Asylum Halo 3: ODST They are all just some of the great games of 2009 but most of them came out right at the beginning of fiscal year 2009 (and the end of calendar year 2008) Fiscal year 2010 got started off with a bang with Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank: A Crank in Time, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2, and Forza 3, (not to mention the PSPGo, who was released on the very first day of fiscal year 2010) but will include: A New Wii? Project Natal? Sony PS3 Motion Controller Left 4 Dead 2 Modern Warfare 2 Halo Reach Splinter Cell Conviction Bayonetta Crackdown 2 Gran Turismo 5 God of War III BioShock 2 Mass Effect 2 Metal Gear Rising Max Payne 3 Deus Ex 3 Dead Rising 2 The Saboteur MAG Final Fantasy XIII/XIV Star Wars The Old Republic Those are just a few of the really exciting games that 2010 will have in store for us. Dragon Age Journey's A 2D Adventure
by Corey Dockendorf [ Friday, 16th of October 2009 - 05:07 PM ]
As if there hasn't been enough stuff popped out from the beast that is Dragon Age: Origins. First we get the character builder, then we get the social networking site. The game isn't available until the beginning of next month but BioWare is already working on a 2D project slated for sometime in October to wet our appetites. Blood, monsters, and character sheets, all in classic 2D! Dragon Age Journeys: Deep Roads is being created by EA2D, a new studio out of the EA franchise that specializes in flash based games. DJ Hero Renegade 2-CD Pack-in Track List Released
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 15th of October 2009 - 03:49 PM ]
Yesterday, Activision released the track listing for the bonus 2-CD pack of Jay-Z and Eminem for the DJ Hero Renegade Edition. As a person who is readily suspicious of special editions and collector's edition, I had my doubts about DJ Hero's special pack-in when I saw that the jump in price from the regular edition was 80 US Dollars. With Wednesday's track listing release for the big addition to the original product and what exactly it will be, it really begs the question if what you're getting is worth the price of admission. Looking at Gamestop's web listing for DJ Hero Renegade Edition, you get: DJ Hero Renegade Edition Includes the following items: DJ Hero Game Renegade Turntable Controller featuring premium metal controls and finish Hardshell Turntable Carrying Case that converts to performance-ready DJ stand Exclusive JAY-Z and EMINEM 2-CD pack featuring unreleased tracks and collectible case designed by artist Shepard Fairey Looking at the track listing of the 2-CD set and being a fan, albeit not a huge stalker-level fan, I was really impressed at what is being included especially a brand new track. Valve Gives Details On Left4Dead 2 Scavenge Mode
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 9th of October 2009 - 06:28 PM ]
Yesterday Valve announced a new mode for Left4Dead 2: Scavenge Mode. Scavenge Mode is a competitive mode where the Survivors must fill a generator with cans of fuel while a clock ticks away to the end of the round. Each can of fuel added is one point and added time to the clock, with only the Infected in your path. Much like Versus mode, the opposing team takes the roles of the special/boss Infected in order to stop the Survivors from scoring by any means necessary. When the clock runs out, switch sides and repeat; the highest scoring team wins. Read More...

Review: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
by Ben Brody [ Friday, 9th of October 2009 - 02:47 PM ]
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (titled sequel to the original Operation Flashpoint from 2001, the developer, Bohemia Interactive, preferred ArmA to be the original's sequel. Dragon Rising was developed not by Bohemia Interactive, but in house by Codemasters) positions itself not so much as an action FPS but moreso as a realistic battle simulation. If you would rather have something that's more run-and-gun, one man army, headshots left and right, nade spamming, knife stabbing free for all than maybe you should stick to Battlefield: Bad Company or Call of Duty 4. But if you want something realistic that requires tact and deft to win, then OF:DR is your game. Read More...

Queen will be showing up on Rock Band this month (finally) as the new downloadable content! Just below is the track listing for the new DLC that should be available October 20th. So expect to see these songs online and available on all platforms sometime that week! The following is the track listing released by Harmonix Another One Bites the Dust Crazy Little Thing Called Love One Vision Fat Bottomed Girls I Want It All I Want To Break Free Killer Queen Somebody To Love Tie Your Mother Down Under Pressure All the classics are there, except of course Bohemian Rhapsody. Waynes and Garths all over the world are silently weeping with their instruments, being deprived of the 5:49 seconds of Epic headbanging glory. Activision Releases More Track Lists for Band Hero
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 1st of October 2009 - 07:47 PM ]
There comes a time when you realize there are certain products are just not for your demographic anymore. Maybe it was when you were hitting puberty and realized that while you may still like Saturday morning cartoons, the commercials annoyed you rather than interested. Or perhaps you tried to watch The Tonight Show before Jay Leno was replaced and realized every joke was for the geriatric crowd. Reading today's press release from Activision really demonstrated to me that while I may enjoy rhythm games, Band Hero is not being marketed to me. Band Hero is the long lost love child of Guitar Hero: World Tour and High School Musical. Read More...

Valve Releases Free Crash Course DLC
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 30th of September 2009 - 03:36 AM ]
Today Valve released Crash Course, the next big free* DLC for their immensely popular Left4Dead franchise. Ben went into what it's all about back here, but the the gist is that between No Mercy and Death Toll, the helicopter that rescued you on top of the hospital went down and now our survivors are no longer safe. They must keep moving to stay alive. On top of the co-operative and survival modes for this campaign the versus mode includes a 30-minute limit to speed things along. Read More...
