Never Been a Better Time to Survive in '09
by Brian Bentley [ Friday, 1st of May 2009 - 07:32 PM ]
The best co-op game I played last year was Left4Dead and if you were among the few PC gamers that did not purchase this title, this is the perfect opportunity for you to try it, then buy it.  All day Friday, you are able to download Left4Dead on Steam and play the entire game including the recently released Survival mode.  After you try and fall in love with the game (as I know you will), you have all weekend to purchase it through Steam at 40% off.   Left4Dead is a cooperative experience where four players are challenged through an array of campaigns attempting to escape the zombie apocalypse and make it safety. What's in the box? Valves new game?
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Friday, 24th of April 2009 - 05:36 PM ]
http://whatsinthebox.nl/ So what is it? New Half Life? Portal? New IP? Very interesting. Some folks have uncovered some very interesting things about this website as of late. Digging through the code, seems its a website for Valve. There have been users all over the net deciphering this since early this morning. Seems that when you mouse over the circle there is some Hex code, also in the source code is a website http://babel-research.eu/ which has some very interesting Black Mesa, Aperture Science, and the Hanso Foundation Logos. Valve Spanks "Bad" Servers
by Brian Bentley [ Sunday, 15th of March 2009 - 02:12 AM ]
Announced in the Team Fortress 2 blog, Valve has begun a process that will be de-listing servers they deem as "bad."  Using number of connections and player time on the server as the main factors in judgment, they calculated a score for each server and those servers in a certain block (my guess is a percentage), were removed from the master server listing system.  Password-protected and low-use (less than 200 connections) servers were excluded from the search and destroy mission.Once again Valve is making owning one of their software titles a treat and a vacation from released garbage put on shelves only to remove $50 or $60 from your pocket. Team Fortress 2 Scout Update Coming Next Week
by Brian Bentley [ Wednesday, 18th of February 2009 - 03:06 PM ]
Yesterday, Valve began the unveiling process on their new Team Fortress 2 update adding new achievement weapons.  This time to the Scout class.  Quick and wiry, the scout is listed as an offensive class, but as anyone who has put time in the trenches will tell you, the scout can also be a formidable defense class.  With the new site in place, Valve plans to release a bit of new information each day.  For day 1, they released information on the new weapon to replace the bat, called The Sandman. A Steam Cloud is rolling in...
by [ Tuesday, 4th of November 2008 - 02:20 AM ]
Today, Valve has announced a platform that will store game applications online so that gamers can access them from any PC. Affectionately titled Steam Cloud, the November zombie thriller Left 4 Dead will ship with out-of-the-box support. According to Valve, the Steam Cloud "just works," meaning that any changes a gamer makes to configurations in-game such as button layouts, difficulty settings, or multiplayer options will be automatically delegated to the user’s Steam Cloud account on another computer. Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve, explains: "For some time now, Steam has allowed gamers to log on from any computer in the world and access their applications. This also makes it easy to upgrade a PC without worrying about losing your games. Read More...

Google (not) to buy Valve.
by Andy [ Wednesday, 17th of September 2008 - 04:45 PM ]
Update: Accoring to MTV Multiplayer, Doug Lombardi says it's a "complete fabrication"Yesterday at the GDC, our very own Clov3r got the chance to talk with the developers over at the Valve booth and got confirmation that it is infact a fabrication. The Valve developers joked around with the idea that someone could say such a thing, not seeming to mind the idea much and was "the talk of the office" yesterday morning- - - Original article:In a very interesting turn of events, it seems that Google is looking at Valve. Why you may ask? It really is quite simple, Valve has an amazing Content Distribution System, aka Steam. Read More...

Left 4 Dead Hands On
by Andy [ Wednesday, 3rd of September 2008 - 11:48 PM ]
Many great new games are coming out this upcoming holiday season and fortunately for me, I had a chance to play some at this year's Penny Arcade Expo (PAX). One of the must talked about games, Left 4 Dead (L4D), was available to play at Valve's booth. Throughout the whole convention, the L4D booth was packed to the gills with people eager to kill some zombies. You may hate me after I say this, but I got to play it 2 hours in advance of the general public. But don't hate me too much as I wouldn't have been able to play it otherwise. Read More...

Left 4 Dead Delayed til November 20th
by Andy [ Monday, 25th of August 2008 - 07:15 PM ]
Much anticipated Valve game, Left 4 Dead, has been pushed back until November 20th. At least this is still in time for the holiday season, so you can eat your christmas cookies while blastig zombies away. At least I know I will be! "Left 4 Dead is going to be released on the tenth anniversary of Half-Life, our first game," said Newell. "That will be on November 20th, the third week in November." I can't say this is a huge let down at all, infact, I like that it is being pushed back a bit. Read More...

TF2 Gets a New Environment
by Andy [ Tuesday, 5th of August 2008 - 03:43 AM ]
Over at the official TF2 blog, Jakob Jungles said: One of the things we're looking at for the next update is the creation of a new type of environment for our levels to be built in. We're pretty happy with the way our environments have turned out so far, but as we create more and more maps with these achievement packs, we want our level designers to have more to work with in terms of giving their settings a unique look. The challenging part of this type of design process is in finding types of terrain and structures that provide an understandable, interesting set of visuals and at the same time staying within the constraints of what we want to do with gameplay. In addition to this, we want to be able to stay within the strengths of the engine that TF is built around. Read More...

PWNing The Test Of Time
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Monday, 28th of April 2008 - 06:24 PM ]
Valve: No new Portal this year I'm sure that anyone and everyone has most likely heard of Portal. Yes? No? Well ya did now. But in any instance, there is a little more buzz going around about this game and it's previously announced sequel. What is it? Well the fact that it won't be coming soon. Which could be ok. Why do I say it could be ok, well look at their track record. Read More...

VALVE, UPDATES and YOU!!
by Stephanie Naboshek [ Tuesday, 1st of April 2008 - 12:55 PM ]
Over the weekend a handful of updates were released for all you STEAM users out there. If you've already restarted your Steam client since yesterday then it's already been installed. First off, Valve updated the Steam client last week, fixing some bugs and compatibility problems that some of you may or may not have been experiencing. And then again yesterday came two update bundles for those of you who have either FRONTLINES: Full of War and/or Garry's Mod on your Steam account. In the answers to our hopes and prayers, Valve has made a good impact an some common problems experienced during game and fixing bugs responsible for many crashes (God knows my Gmod crashes all the time).
