Torchlight Picking Up Momentum Heading into PAX
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 09:24 PM ]
With all the news flying out of Gamescon, you are no doubt thinking about PAX just 2 weeks away. For those of you lucky enough to attend, PAX will offer many unique experiences and plenty of time to go hands-on some fall releases. If you are going to be in attendance, I encourage you to visit the Torchlight booth (#872) and tryout one of the sleeper hits of E3 last June. Torchlight is a dungeon-crawling Action RPG from Runic Games, who just celebrated their first anniversary. A lot has happened for Torchlight in the last two months as they prepare for the fall release of the single player offering. Read More…

Welcome Home, Again
by Kevin [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 08:07 PM ]
With all of the news flooding out of the Sony camp a lot of people have been curious to see if the Home service is going to receive any measure of attention. Well, they have heard your cries and have offered up a wealth of information courtesy of the official blog. The list of features are as follows: Universal Game Launching: "You can now launch into any PlayStation 3 game directly from Home. Titles that fully support game launching (like Street Fighter 4 and Far Cry 2) will be identified by separate icons that appear over an avatar's head and will have varying degrees of additional multiplayer functionality built in. Simplified game launching will take you from Home to the start menu of your favorite games with ease. Read More…

New LBP DLC Will Totally Get You Wet
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 05:05 PM ]
Sack it to Me – the "Big Announcements" Edition You ever hop into the level creator for LittleBigPlanet and feel like there was something missing. Something that stopped you from being able to faithfully recreate the entire game of Super Mario Bros. using their sandbox. Something you couldn't quite place your finger on. Something you had to muddle around with the jet packs a bit to get to work correctly as well as run a blue tint over the entire screen for immersion's sake. Ok, enough of that and on to the point. The Race For The Crown Has Begun! Fable 3 Announced!
by Corey Dockendorf [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 02:49 PM ]
After a viral marketing scheme by LionsHead Studios, we finally see what all the hub-bub was about. If you haven't been watching, the LionsHead website has been showing leaders of our time (Abraham Lincoln for example) and quotes underneath each one followed by a number. The numbers were counting down each day until today. Today also happens to be the opening day for GamesCom 2009. LionsHead Studios officially announced Fable 3 as well as posted the new trailer today. Read More…

I Got A Great Big Bow Here
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 11:32 AM ]
Hades Boss Fight Round 2 So on Monday we were able to give you a nice view of what the Lord of the Dead would be looking like. We've seen him only in a few minor shots in the God of War FMVs before that. But now we get one further peek at how this epic boss/boss fight will look and feel. All of this through some more screen shots from the game and what is being shown at GamesCom. I know it is all Hades vs. Kratos in those shots there, but it still looks amazingly stunning. It's A Story... Of A Clan Named Belmont...
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 03:56 AM ]
Konami Unmasks the Belmont Clan in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Just in case you forgot about the Castlevania game that has Hideo Kojima attached to it, due to being hit in the head with a baseball bat, let's give you a reminder. Yes, the man of Metal Gear Solid fame has his hands in the game. Yes, there are a lot of big names doing some of the Voice Overs. Yes it is a very well done looking next gen version of the franchise. But that was all that people knew of when they first announced and gave a short tease at E3 this year. Read More…

Beatles: Rock Band DLC Albums and Pricing Announced
by Brian Bentley [ Thursday, 20th of August 2009 - 01:16 AM ]
At Gamescon in Cologne, Harmonix announced which full albums will be available as DLC for Beatles: Rock Band in 2009. They also revealed the pricing structure and some extras you'll receive. This on the heels of yesterday's reveal of 19 of the last 20 songs on the disc. I would normally say that the 1360 Microsoft points (roughly $17) for an entire album and the typical 160 Microsoft points ($2) per song may turn off the owners of this game, but I would be wrong. I know how wrong by the fact that upon reading the press release, I balked at the number then quickly followed up with, "yeah, I'll probably buy it anyway." Beatles fans have been waiting for something like this since plastic guitars began filling up living rooms. Read More…

Firming Up More With Firmware
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Wednesday, 19th of August 2009 - 09:27 PM ]
PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.00) Update So with the new PS3 Slim and price drop hitting the world, it would make sense that Sony would do something special for all of us who purchased the system a while ago. Some of us, at launch. I'll remain nameless for that one there. Irregardless, a new, pretty awesome update to the whole PS3 experience is what we current owners are getting. If you check out the list and video below, you can get a good look at what they are dishing out for us. A slimmer, sleeker What's New section. Read More…

The Ultimate Gaming Wishlist (8/19/09)
by Jesse [ Wednesday, 19th of August 2009 - 07:45 PM ]
Last week I discussed my feelings about downloadable content which is one of two things that have drastically risen in the last few years to become a common site in the video games industry. Today I want to take a look at the second which are Special Edition releases. Before I actually get to the different pieces that are actually packaged within, I’d like to share what I think should be the definition of various special editions because I’ve seen several different variations in my time. Obviously these are the Special Edition, Collector’s Edition, and Limited Edition. I know that for many people there really is no difference, but I disagree. Read More…

Seeing Red Daily
by Kevin [ Wednesday, 19th of August 2009 - 04:05 PM ]
Another contender, albeit an interesting one, in the area of game rental and availability - Redbox, more known for its kiosks which seem to be everywhere from Royal Farms to McDonald's, will now be offering games for the DS, Wii, Playstations 2&3, and Xbox 360 for a sum of $2 nightly. For most gamers, GameFly seems to be the go to source for gaming rentals along with the coveted Goozex for trading and trying out titles. This reminds me of several years ago when the war was between Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. Well, considering I never played a game from Hollywood Video that wasn't scratched, maybe it wasn't much of a war after all. Read More…

The Beatles: Rock Band - 19 of Last 20 Songs Revealed
by Brian Bentley [ Tuesday, 18th of August 2009 - 09:05 PM ]
As I correctly speculated in my last Beatles: Rock Band article, there was yet another teaser for the fans as today MTV Games and Harmonix announced 19 of the 20 songs yet be revealed. With only one song remaining to be divulged, it looks as if it will be either a widely popular tune or a special "not-previously-released" track that's been hidden in the vaults and purposely kept from public view so that it can be released live with the remastered recordings set to release on the same day as the game. Considering the track list so far, there are some big Beatles songs on there indicating they are not afraid to show their hand, so the latter does seem more likely. Looking at the breakdown by studio album* it appears that they've set up a few albums to be big DLC money makers. Read More…

LittleBigBurn
by David 'Hades' Becker [ Tuesday, 18th of August 2009 - 06:31 PM ]
Announcing: LittleBigPlanet – Game of the Year edition If there is one thing I hate when I open up a new DVD or Blu-Ray case, it's when there is an ad for a Special Edition of the same film that I bought coming out in a few weeks/months. A new edition with all the crazy extra features and extras that I wanted in the one I just bought. The kicker is when they advertise this new version for the same price as the one I just bought. It always leaves me burned by the company. Read More…

My Wings are now Golden
by Binh Nguyen [ Tuesday, 18th of August 2009 - 04:14 PM ]
Last week on the Aggrocast, Michael, Brian, David and myself discussed whether or not Aion will be a bust or a success. Well today NCsoft has announced that the highly anticipated MMO has been released to be manufactured, also known as going Gold. Recently Aion has been gaining a lot of momentum in the in the European and North American online communities, and rightfully so with more than 3 million hours of gameplay logged in Aion closed beta alone. This year at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, and at Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Washington, Aion will be available to play hands-on with the 1.5 version of the game.
