There is an unfair bias among many in the media here in North America against micro-transactions and free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online games. That somehow if you play a non-subscription-based system (i.e. World of Warcraft), you’ll catch some communicable disease of un-coolness. What most gaming enthusiast journalists fail to focus on is this market is increasing by huge leaps daily with more and more players, especially individuals who would never play something like World of Warcraft but put tens of hours a week into one of these free-to-play MMOs.
At E3 this year, I stopped by Perfect World Entertainment to see their assortment of free-to-play MMOs, especially Jade Dynasty. I had an opportunity to sit with Andrew Brown, the game’s product manager, to discuss the open beta and upcoming release.
