How many times have you seen a game come out that is either based on a movie or vice versa? Quite often. Companies like to milk things for all they are worth. No big news there. But what if you could by the Blu-Ray of the film with the game loaded on the same disk or within the same packaging? Would you pick that up instead?
Well it looks like in the not to distant future, later this year, that may actually be a possibility for people who would love to have their films and play them too.
Because most games that come to market do not use a good portion of the disk space, like 3/5 of the current space available, it is very feasible that this may be the new wave that occurs in the industry. Get a game like Dead Space and have the animated film also on the disk. Or even the new Saw game when the sixth film comes out on Blu-Ray. Make it really a one stop shop, and I mean why not? There is plenty of space to do this and as long as the price point doesn't get to out of control, it could be a very good move. Even though it might be around $90 for a Game/Movie, $60 for Game $30 for Film.
One further thing that is kind of a nice thing they brought up with this is the fact that it would make copying digital copies to the PSP a bit easier. Much like the way one would transfer Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's digital copies over currently. A little more convenient, but who knows.
Personally, I think this has potential to be a great thing. But given how some companies just want to milk the consumer for money, it will quickly be a way to sap bank accounts world wide. Mainly as a company may choose to only sell an awesome film packaged with a crap game and force people to have to pay for both even though they only want the film. Or vice versa. I can only imagine if they tried to do that with Street Fighter IV. Having to pay extra because they package it with the film. We'll see I guess.
Note: If it was the Raul Julia/ Van Damme film it would be awesome. The new film looks like it would just piss me off.
