DOOM
The release date for DOOM Eternal has been pushed until next year but we will be getting DOOM 64 at the same time
If you were still hoping to be able to play DOOM Eternal this coming November, you may want to take a seat. It looks like that November 22nd release date that was set down before is no longer going to happen. It looks like id Software needs to push out the release of the game a bit. As in about five more months or so before you will get to play DOOM Eternal now on the PS4, Xbox One, or PC. Even longer if you were waiting to get your hands on it for the Switch. Bethesda has yet to place a date down for that version of the game sadly. So, the wait no continues into the times when all of the other major titles are launching as we have March 20th of 2020 to look at now.
Those curious for the push of DOOM Eternal will be glad to know that it is for the same reasons as always. More "polish" and speed issues that need to be fixed. What that specifically means is for you all to determine or come up with your own conclusions for. It almost never makes sense. Either way, it is happening and we can look forward to DOOM 64 to drop at the same time. Something that is nice as that will be a pre-order bonus for all the versions of the game and something that will launch on the same date. I am guessing it will be the same for the Switch version of the game as the date is still not set down for that again. Here is the full announcement of it all.
Throughout the development of DOOM Eternal, our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board.
To make sure we’re delivering the best experience — for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish — we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait.
In addition to shifting the DOOM Eternal launch date, we’ve made a couple other changes we wanted you to know about:
- Invasion Mode, which will allow you to enter another player’s game as a playable demon, will release as a free update shortly after launch.
- DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch will release after the other platforms. We will announce that date in the future.
- DOOM 64 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in addition to Nintendo Switch. We are adding DOOM 64 as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal on all platforms so you’ll be able to download and play this classic game, for free, just for pre-ordering DOOM Eternal. DOOM 64 will be released on March 20, 2020 on all platforms.
We are grateful to every DOOM fan for your dedication and support — we can’t wait to rip-and-tear right alongside you.
How upset are you that DOOM Eternal has been pushed until a bit into the next year? What do you think all of this means and what do you think the specifics of it all are? Do you think some of this was to make sure the pre-order stuff was going to be ready at the same time or do you think there was a wall that was hit along the way? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss away. When we have more to share for DOOM Eternal, we will share it all here for you. Be sure to keep checking back in here on the site so you can be completely up to date.
