Arise
A new title, Arise: A Simple Story, was announced during the State Of Play and we will see Arise taking us down some interesting life paths
Sometimes in the mix of all the darker and hardcore games out there we need something a bit softer and to that it looks like we have Arise: A Simple Story to look forward to. Even if it looks like it all starts off at a darker place with the main character dying right from the start. That is kind of the hook that Piccolo Studio is going for as we will be reliving the memories of the main character in this way. It sounds a little odd when you say it that way, but that is kind of the point as we will be in limbo in Arise and thus traversing the landscapes, worlds, and creatures that are sparked by the life experiences had. That would be the story of sorts that we have as to what is going on.
When it comes to the actual gameplay of Arise: A Simple Story, it looks like another basic style platforming title with some walking mixed in. It looks a lot like Journey as the basics go. The difference being that the world is a bit more vibrant and filled with all kinds of interesting and changing elements the represent so many emotional things out there. For the character, but we can draw all of our own conclusions from it all as we take on the role of the protagonist here. Have a look at the announcement trailer and see if Arise will be something you will want to add to your gaming collection.
Arise: A Simple Story — Announcement
Your adventure in Arise starts where many might end — on a funeral pyre. You wake up in limbo, where a mysterious light beckons you from atop of a snowy mountain. Your trek towards it turns into a bittersweet journey through your life, where you relive the moments of happiness but also have to face devastating tragedies all over again. If that’s not extraordinary enough, you quickly realize you have the gift to bend time to your will.
One of our goals with Arise was to make this odyssey memorable and constantly surprising. We turned our hero’s rich life experience into beautiful landscapes, which will shift along with your emotional state as you roam through varied environments that reflect the current tone of the narrative. As the story unfolds, your power to manipulate time also transforms to fit the moments you’re reliving.
In Arise you never know what’s around the corner. You enjoy the good times to the fullest knowing they might not last, and endure the hardships working to turn them around. To put it simply – that’s just life, right? Beautiful and scary at the same time. That feeling of not knowing what comes next and playing with the cards you were dealt is one of the major themes in Arise.
