As we all know, Super Smash Bros. Brawl recently released in North America and hundreds to thousands of Smash Bros fans waited eagerly outside of their local GameStop’s to get themselves their copy. When they got home and threw their SSBB disc in their Nintendo Wii Consoles “a small percentage” of the fan base was let down by a “disc-read error”.
According to Nintendo, who just sold 1 million copies in Japan, this is due to the high-capacity double-layer disc that is used for Super Smash Bros Brawl. On Nintendo’s official North American site they explained "A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive."
Wii gamers experiencing this problem are told to fill out a form online and send their systems off to Nintendo to have it properly cleaned by their “specialized cleaning equipment” for free. They ask you to not attempt cleaning the lens yourself or returning the game to your local store because neither of these options will help. If you are having the same issue please fill out the online form.
