Mighty No. 9 Hits With More Delays Pushing It To Spring

Mighty No. 9

Another delay has hit for Mighty No. 9 due to matchmaking in the game so now Mighty No. 9 will be out sometime this Spring if all goes well

Hopefully you were not holding your breath for Mighty No. 9 to hit on February 9th as it was originally planned. It looks like comcept needs to push the release date back yet again and this time there is nothing more than a hopeful Spring 2016 release window for Mighty No. 9. Usually Deep Silver is all over things like this well before two weeks from release date but it looks like there were quite a few unexpected bugs still to be worked out for Mighty No. 9 and they didn't want to release a half-assed game for us all. At least that would be the bright side of this. Now please take a breath and let the waiting for Mighty No. 9 begin anew.

As I said comcept claimed there to be some major bugs still in Mighty No. 9 which is why it is being released later. According to the official delay announcement it looks like those bug had to deal with matchmaking and the various different platforms that Mighty No. 9 will be releasing on once the game is completely polished up. Also in the fact that the game engine that they were working with is no longer getting updates from the original creators and that they have to write all the code themselves. I know that Epic Games isn't working on the Unreal 3 engine anymore as the focus is on UE4 but I could have sworn that they had most of those kinks in that engine ironed out well before Mighty No. 9 went into production. Seems like a cop out for those who don't fully follow and can be misguided due to lack of knowledge.

No matter the case though Mighty No. 9 will not be out on February 9th now and all of those Kickstarter backers and non-backers are going to have to wait for the dev team to get things in order again. I am completely suspicious of the claims myself as it sounds like they are pushing the blame elsewhere so as not to ruffle feathers too much but who fully knows but them? I know Mighty No. 9 isn't the first title to use multi-platforms matchmaking with UE3 but they are also a rather new-ish developer having only a few years under their belts so Mighty No. 9 is most likely their first real foray into that realm of gaming. At least as some of the developers go there…

Unfortunately, we have an announcement that will be very disappointing to all of you. In preparation for the February release of Mighty No. 9 we have been working hard with our partners to resolve any network issues and porting work necessary to publish Mighty No. 9 on the various platforms. However, the issues relating to the network modes were more critical than expected, and it has become apparent that we will need to delay the game from its February 9th release date. We have been working up until the very last moment to resolve these issues in order to make the February release, but it has become clear that we no longer have enough time to fix the issues and have everything prepared for release.

The reason for the delay is rooted in bugs inside the network modes, and specifically problems with matchmaking. There are two large reasons for this problem, one of them being the large number of platforms supported (the solution for each platform is slightly different) and the other stems from the fact that the engine we are using is no longer being updated which means adjustments for matchmaking and online code are being made manually (actually reprogramming parts of the engine by the dev team themselves). Unfortunately, this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff. As a result, our fans who have been looking forward to Mighty No. 9 have been forced to wait for over half a year longer than expected, and for that we are sincerely sorry. I want to take this chance to apologize personally, and on the behalf of the development staff.

Over the end of the year break and the beginning of 2016, the development staff has been working on these issues non-stop without break, and thanks to their hard work the end is in sight. We continue to make progress to resolve these last issues that have been holding up the release of the game on the different platforms.

Because we are constantly working on it in cooperation with all our partners, we want to wait and make sure that everything is confirmed to be ready before giving a new specific release date. But we expect it to realistically be in Spring 2016.

Are you upset about the third delay of Mighty No. 9 as many others have been online already? Do you think that the finger pointing at the engine is just a ploy to remove some of the blame on comcept's end? When do you think we will actually see a final version of Mighty No. 9 or do you see it being forever in "delay" mode? Let us know what you think down in the comments below and discuss. As we find out more on Mighty No. 9 from Deep Silver we will update you on the site here. Be sure to stick around for all of that and more.
