Oculus Rift
The pre-orders for the Oculus Rift are up and running and it looks like we will be getting an Oculus Rift in home by the end of March or early April
The wait is now over for the Oculus Rift…to some extent. Pre-orders are now live over on their site and we now have a price and an expected release window for this year. That would be sometime around the end of March or early April depending on who you hear from. As of this writing mine is stating that it will ship in April of 2016 but I have seen others claim sometime in March. This could all be based on when you pre-order the Oculus Rift and how they are going to handle the supply and demand so everyone has VR on their PCs.
Of course when we are talking pre-orders we also need to have a price. Currently the Oculus Rift is being priced at $599 USD. That would seem a little pricey if it was only the Oculus Rift headset that was being delivered but for the $600 price point it looks like we also are getting not just the headset but the sensor, Oculus Remote, cables, Xbox One Controller, EVE: Valkyrie, and Lucky's Tale added in. That still makes the headset alone look to be about $300 to $400 when I look at it. Having experienced it all though it is worth the price as I see it.
Of course this is the price point for those who didn't back the Oculus Rift Kickstarter at the level of getting a DK1 build of the unit. Everyone who kicked down the cash at that level will be getting what is called the Kickstarter version of the Oculus Rift. I am assuming that means that they will be getting the production version of everything they have already been playing with since Oculus was purchased by Facebook. It makes sense and also makes for a good business practice over there.
I know I have already secured my Oculus Rift headset and if you want to as well you can head on over to the pre-order site for the Oculus Rift and drop the $600 USD for yourself. Hopefully you to will be getting one shipped out in early April of this year but as this is a hot ticket item there could be some delays as they may not be able to make enough to cover the demand out the gate. We'll see I guess.
How do you feel about the price point of the Oculus Rift here? Is it too expensive for your blood or just about what you were expecting? Were you part of the Oculus Rift Kickstarter and are getting the "free" version of the Oculus Rift due to your loyalty and hopes for the company? Let us know in the comments below. As more on the Oculus Rift comes out we will have more for you on the site so be sure to keep your browser locked into the site for all of those updates as we get them.
