The Awakening Is Happening For Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 In February

Black Ops 3

The first major Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC, Awakening, will be dropping in February next year adding more maps to Black Ops 3's multiplayer and zombies mode

The force has awakened and now it is time for the first batch of DLC for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3. Granted it doesn't look like that will be fully happening until February 2nd 2016 for those who have the game on the PS3 or PS4 but Treyarch wanted to make sure we all had a glimpse at what was in store for this DLC. Also a little stab at those waiting for it to hit the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and/or PC as they will most likely have to wait another month before this Black Ops 3 DLC lands for them. I guess this is what it is like when the shoe is on the other foot for the "exclusive first" bit for DLC right?

It was no mystery that the Awakening DLC was coming to Black Ops 3 as it is part of the season pass but until now we didn't have a solid lead on what was coming in said DLC. It looks like we are now getting four new multiplayer maps and the first story chapter to the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies that is all the rage. All of which was teased back at launch but now we get to see what will be included in the actual maps packs and the first major bit for the zombies mode in Black Ops 3. Awesome…

For the most part most of these new maps sound about as generic as ever for Black Ops 3 or the Call Of Duty franchise at that. Well, outside of the map that takes place in an abandoned water park that is. How has Treyarch not done this earlier in their career or the run of the franchise to date? In fact it feels like this should have been one of the base maps in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 given the swimming mechanic that was almost ignored in the main campaign and most of the multiplayer I have experienced to date. Seems like this should have been thought out from day one.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 — Awakening DLC

Multiplayer Maps

  • Gauntlet: Grounded in a military training facility, Gauntlet plays up the core philosophy of Treyarch's classic three lane map structure with distinct variety in visuals and gameplay. Each of the three primary lanes has a unique environment as players battle through a sprawling jungle, sub-zero artic zone and rainy urban cityscape.
  • Splash: Set in an abandoned water theme park, this vibrant and playful map delivers an imaginative environment complete with waterslides, a wrecked pirate ship, , and a lazy river ride that winds through a fantastical forgotten city. Splash is designed to drive an open flow of combat, including plenty of opportunities for underwater gameplay.
  • Rise: Set in the snowy outskirts of Zurich, Rise is a Coalescence Corporation construction project for a massive subterranean research campus. The design of the map caters to a mix of classic Call Of Duty cover combat alongside strategic core movement opportunities, with each section of the map offering distinctly different styles of gameplay.
  • Skyjacked: Set on a security VTOL in the clouds over urban Zurich, Skyjacked is a reimagined version of the popular Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer map Hijacked, and retains the same fast and frenetic gameplay from one of the most popular maps in Call Of Duty history, but with a twist. Skyjacked gives players the opportunity to explore the map in a variety of new ways thanks to the all-new core movement system in Black Ops 3.

Zombies Map

  • Der Eisendrache: The first chapter of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3's Zombies DLC adventure will take players on an epic journey with the Origin characters Richtofen, Nicolai, Takeo, and Dempsey. Set in an eerie medieval castle built upon an ancient site of unspeakable horror, massive deposits of Element 115 have recently been discovered, delivering inspired new gameplay and - in Zombies tradition - a variety of exciting plot twists and surprises that fans will have the opportunity to discover for themselves.

Are you fully ready for the first wave of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC? Are you too wondering why it has taken so long to get a proper water map to utilize the swimming mechanic?
