The Last Of Us: Left Behind Is Going Standalone

So this seems like a little weird bit of news but The Last Of Us: Left Behind DLC will be coming to the PS3 and PS4 as a standalone experience on May 12th. This would be that DLC for The Last Of Us that gave us all a little insight into the background of Ellie and her friend Riley. This would be the bit of story that is only alluded to in the core game as to how we all found out that Ellie is immune to whatever fungus is floating around in the world. Now everyone will be able to experience it without having to have The Last Of Us or The Last Of Us Remastered.

This is quite confusing to me having already played to completion The Last Of Us: Left Behind. Other standalone DLC/Expansions that have come out so far have been really good at being just that. No need to play or understand the core game to enjoy. First Light was well enough to be able to experience solo and only had nods to the core title. The Last Of Us: Left Behind truly fills in a gap in the story of The Last Of Us and I think would feel very out of place not having the rest of the story to go on or experience. It just seems very odd, outside of a cash grab, to make this a standalone piece.

Now you take all of the above then it seems even more out of place to also be giving us the option to upgrade The Last Of Us: Left Behind DLC to include the multiplayer for The Last Of Us for an extra fee. Why the hells not just buy the full version of The Last Of Us on PS3 or PS4 and then get the DLC? Do we really need this option? I think this is a shoddy way to try and get more people to play The Last Of Us without getting them to enjoy the core of the game. Especially when you can pick up the full game of The Last Of Us on the same day for $30 and then add the $9.99 to get The Last Of Us: Left Behind after that. Why even give the option to play a chapter that has no point of reference?

None the less, if for some reason you want to piece together your The Last Of Us experience you can get The Last Of Us: Left Behind on May 12th for just $9.99 and play it without need of the full game. Or you can get the full game, multiplayer, and DLC on the same date for around $40 USD on the PS4, and $30 USD on the PS3. Haven't we all experienced and loved this game already though? Let us know what you think or thought down in the comments and then push people to get The Last Of Us: Left Behind as that is what Sony wants.
