Take it as good news, bad news, just news, but Mad Catz is going to be co-publishing Rock Band 4 with Harmonix. This to me seems like the perfect marriage to get Rock Band 4 out and with the equipment some may still need to fully enjoy playing the game. For those who may not know somehow, Mad Catz is one of those companies that make all of those custom controllers, fight sticks, and Rock Band controllers in the past. At least versions of them so, like I said, it makes perfect sense that they would partner up with Harmonix here to help bring Rock Band 4 to the PS4 and Xbox One.
While personally I can see this as a good move for all involved in Rock Band 4 it is worth noting that this could mean that gamers may be hamstringed by the peripherals that they can use for the game when all is said and done. Given that they are helping publish it wouldn't be too outlandish to think that they are going to be working toward using Mad Catz equipment to help perfect the game. The claim is still that any past controller will work for Rock Band 4, as well as DLC, but I can see it working best with a Mad Catz controller. Or at least see that tagline being thrown around here in the future as we get closer to launch.
“Since the announcement of Rock Band 4, we've been thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive response of passionate fans and gamers worldwide. The time is right to re-introduce the franchise to the new generation of consoles and our co-publishing agreement is a natural extension of the excellent relationship both companies share in realizing that vision,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “We’re excited to extend our agreement with Harmonix, and are confident that Mad Catz’ global sales force, distribution channels and retail marketing expertise will deliver the retail success we believe Rock Band 4 will achieve in 2015 and beyond.”
So there goes the good and bad aspects of this Rock Band 4 news. So now I leave you with the general: Rock Band 4 is slated for Fall release for the PS4, and Xbox One. Current rumors still point to an October date but there is nothing concrete on that in the slightest yet. Rock Band 4 will use all past hardware and DLC for the new experience but new equipment is in the works for the new game.
Do you see what I see for Rock Band 4 and this partnership? Does it really matter as most of us will most likely either being using old equipment or buying the new stuff?
