While not directly video game news, The Interview being placed on our gaming systems for streaming could lead to some gaming outages in the coming days. What I am talking about here is that Sony has decided to let the film stream on YouTube, Google Play, and Xbox Video as of this writing. There are plans to let it go to other platforms, including Video Unlimited on the PlayStation Network but those plans are supposedly coming shortly.
This is either a stoke of marketing genius or nothing is going to happen but people seeing The Interview. How is it genius? Well look at the possible reason for not being on the Video Unlimited service. If whoever made Sony take The Interview out of release gets pissed off that they have released the film on these services then it is highly likely that they will be targeting by a DoS attack over the Christmas holiday. Could you imagine the bonus for PlayStation if it was the only service still up and running? Genius!
Like I said, at this time it is still not confirmed when the PS3 and PS4 will get the film but I have a feeling that is just Sony holding out to make sure if anyone has issues playing their games over the weekend it is going to be the competition. If nothing happens directly to all of the services streaming I think that The Interview will finally make it onto the parent company's console for all to enjoy or see what the fuss was all about. As long as my gaming isn't messed with I'll be fine.
