File this new The Last Of Us news under the most amazing thing I could have heard and hope is 100% confirmed. What is it? That Sam Raimi, Ghost House Pictures, and Screen Gems is working on bringing The Last Of Us to the big screen. One of the best parts of the game, that being the story, will now be placed on a medium that will let everyone, gamer or not, to enjoy what I thought was one of the best stories I have had the pleasure to play through. But let's move onto what is known as of right not and not all of my hype.
On DeadLine.com is where the 'exclusive' story broke. Neil Druckmann, the Creative Director for The Last Of Us, is set to write the screenplay for the live action film with the co-presidents and Game Director taking on roles of creative architects. It isn't stated exactly how but Sam Raimi is involved and hopefully directing or executive producing it.
Here's the logline:
"Hardened survivor Joel teams with young and capable companion Ellie to journey through a radically transformed world some 20 years after an infectious pandemic ravages humanity. The game has won numerous awards and has been a big seller since its release last summer." |
I personally think this would be a perfect pairing to create an amazing baby of a film that The Last Of Us could be. Especially with the amazing "re-make" of Evil Dead that Raimi and crew accomplished recently I think that they will capture the feel of The Last Of Us and the infected perfectly. Especially if they use the makeup crew from Evil Dead here I can see them bringing them to life just as Naughty Dog did in the video game world.
Unfortunately this is all we know as of right now but I'll be all over any new news about The Last Of Us live action film; especially given who is involved so far. The Last Of Us was pretty much a film in the first place with how the story was told and acted out so I think it could be absolutely amazing. We'll see.
