Square Enix Keeps Final Fantasy XI Alive

From the press release:

"The expansion will unfold a new adventure for players as the eighth century came to a close. The Royal Family, in partnership with the Eleven Knightly Orders, has agreed to abolish imperial rule — from which arose the Sacred City of Adoulin on the Ulbuka Continent. In the blink of an eye, Adoulin had grown to be a maritime metropolis, with a mercantile prowess rivaling that of Jeuno. It is in this booming city state that the players will find themselves as they work to explore and unlock the secrets hidden in the nearby jungles."

Two new jobs will also be available. Those of you with a love of the elements will be able to access the Geomancer to harness the powers of Vana’diel to attack enemies and support allies. The other class, quick with blades and magic, will be the Rune Fencers. These are a duelist class with a lot of versatility who employ the power of ancient arcane runes.

This update also offers new game play update. New contract work will be available, and the option to have player-built outposts. Also added are “power spots” that will be hidden throughout the environment. They’ll offer powerful character upgrades.

Along with the standard edition, Square has announced a Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition. This edition offers the stand-alone game with the four previously released expansion packs, three add-on scenarios, and three battle area add-ons.

Final Fantasy XI has run now over a decade, and this update seems to assure fans that it has no plans of closing down yet. Look for this expansion March 26, 2013. Check out this website for a trailer and information.
