The release day for Green Day: Rock Band was announced today, along with pricing, extras and a few of the songs. The announced songs are no big shockers, but scrolling down through the press release, my eyes widened upon seeing FULL PRICE. 47 songs for $60 (PS3/360). Granted, all 47 tracks are exportable to Rock Band 2 and the recently announced Rock Band 3, but even then I have to think Harmonix really should have gone the "budget" title route.
This is an interim package to tide people over until the release of Rock Band 3. I do not see the necessity to gouge us on this regardless of exclusive footage or photos. Even a $10 drop would be acceptable or include the "Green Day: Rock Band Plus" package (6 DLC songs) into the full price title. Not to mention that Wii fans will have to wait and see if those 47 tracks really are exportable to Rock Band 2, since they have yet to master that technology.
I'm sure arguments will be made that LEGO Rock Band had only 45 tracks and that had a full-price price tag. Taking a look at my review, you can see I dinged it for that very reason. Looks like we'll have to wait and see if Harmonix can pull a white rabbit and get people psyched to buy this title.
