PlayStation: It Only Holds Your Entertainment Hostage

So if you are a huge fan of playing games on the PS3, or watching movies on the PS3, or running around humping things in Home on the PS3, you undoubtedly know that as of right now you can't. Well that is if you have one of the earlier models, before 2009's Slim. I guess in this case, newer is better.

In any instance, this little bug is something that has been plaguing any one that falls into having the older system and developer systems. The "bug" is keeping players from hopping into their 256 player games on M.A.G. and being able to rock out in Modern Warfare 2. Which is just the tip of the iceberg of issues with error #8001050F.

Online play aside, this bug is keeping people from playing games that have no need to be online to play, like Heavy Rain and Dante's Inferno. Which sucks for us gamers. But like I said, it is also torturing developers with their development models of the PS3 from actually being able to develop games. As they can't even load their code due to need of syncing with the PSN. All because of some little issue with an internal clock and the older machines.

Yea, that's right. The official word from Sony is that a small issue with the clock functionality is screwing up communications to the PSN for these systems. A "small" issue that seems to be knocking out a good portion of their customers and developers. A small issue/bug indeed.

But it doesn't end there. Not only is it knocking out the online and offline play of many, 28/32 of my PS3 titles won't load, but it also seems to be corrupting local data and trophy data as well. Meaning that you might be loosing any trophies not synced before this issue and in some cases, things you have downloaded. Personally I lost all my dynamic themes and purchased content for LittleBigPlanet, one of the four games that worked for me.

But don't fear, Sony is right on top of it telling everyone what is going on and what to do and when it should be resolved. Let me list it for you.

  1. Don't Panic!
  2. They have been working non-stop since they heard about the issue yesterday.
  3. They will have a solution to the problem, maybe, by tomorrow (3/2/10) morning.
  4. The recommend you don't turn on your system until they are able to fix the issue.
  5. Pray to the gods that you had all your trophies synced up before or they might be gone.

How nice of them. They have an issue that takes out a good portion of the world's PS3 and they tell us not to touch them until sometime in the next 24 hours. So not only can I not play my offline games, that I paid for, or watch my movies, that I paid for, on the system, that I paid for, because of some bullshitty issue they probably knew about in the first place.

I can understand the online play being out, but why the fuck would this kill my offline games and films!? How could a fucking "small" issue take out the machine that is suppose to do everything!? Sounds like some cover up thing to me, not trying to sound all conspiracy theorist either. It just doesn't make sense that the offline play would be disabled for a "small" issue.

Looks like I have a reason to dust off the Wii and turn on the 360 for the next 24 hours. I can't even enjoy entirely offline games like Heavy Rain for the next 24 hours. All because I was a huge fan of Sony's and bought a PS3 at launch.
