PSPDoNotPassGo

Problem is that the announcement for North America wasn't really a plan rather than a statement."SCEA region will not offer a UMD rewards program at this time," due to the fact that the company has a "dual-platform strategy," an SCEA spokesperson told IndustryGamers. Kotaku got told that the reason was "due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time."

While I understand that laws for digital distribution are much different in Europe than they are here in North America, I can't help but feel shafted by the fact that there will be no UMD conversion plans whatsoever. While I understand that there aren't that many current PSP owners that are going to “upgrade” (or as some see, downgrade) to the PSPGo, they shouldn't have to pay full price for all their games in addition to having to pay $249.99 for a system that they could get cheaper otherwise (A new PSP-3000 with a 16gb Memory Card could be bought off the internet for $199.99).

Europe is getting a deal where 17 games are good to convert, and as long as you have the UMD still, you can “digitize it” and download it for free for the PSP Go.

SCEE gets all the good stuff. While I don't know if I can blame the FCC for this (The FCC is to blame for the lack of colors, bundles, and different versions of not only the PS3, but everything from TV's to cell phones. The legal reasons are better left for a different article), I can certainly assume that SCEA did everything they could to try to get a UMD conversion plan.
