While North America might not see a price drop til September 8th, prices of Sony's oft-maligned console have fallen €100 across many European stores. The PlayStation 3 Slim may be coming and this may be a way of attempting to clear out current inventories of old dusty 80gb's. That said, an upcoming ad in a recent American retailer (who shall remain nameless) states that the price of the 160gb PS3 will drop to $399.99 raising questions as to where the hell the price of the 80gb is heading.
The ad fails to mention the PS3 slim, which would make sense, as Sony would most likely attempt to clear the shelves of remaining PS3 stock before attempting to introduce the Slim into the market. Although, if this is the fact, then Sony could try to be replacing the current PS3 with the PS3 Slim, which would mean that a price cut wouldn't really be necessary on Sony's part (although with each PS3 made only costing a scant $240 to Sony, it would be fairly stupid not to drop the price).
Sony, of course, is completely mum on the whole deal offering “No Comment” to every request for any information. GamesCom starts on Monday, and let's be honest, Sony will have to make some sort of comment about the PS3's price during their conference on Tuesday. If they don't, then I will release Brian Bentley's cell phone number to the masses, and you are all allowed to call and harass him. Just kidding, but seriously, I will.
Many, including me, believe that Sony will make some sort of announcement regarding the PS3 Slim during their press conference, and the moment it happens we'll be there with an announcement ourselves so stay tuned to aggrogamer on Tuesday for any news!
