DOOM: The Dark Ages Is Announced & Making The Fight A Bit More Medieval

DOOM

The next DOOM title was announced during the Xbox Showcase with DOOM: The Dark Ages taking things even darker than we have had before

Things are getting darker out there and Hell is on the way back with the latest announcement we have for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Yes, we are getting another installment into the newer version of the IP from id Software as the Slayer is coming back into action. Even if we have to wait until 2025 to be able to fully play the game on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That does not mean that we cannot start to get excited to see just where this is all going to go. Especially when we see how some of the gameplay we have today is going to take us to a few darker places with DOOM: The Dark Ages as the title gently suggests here. Maybe not in the way you are thinking right away, though.

When you hear a title like The Dark Ages, one would think that this would be a bit of a prequel to DOOM as we see where the slayer comes from. That does not seem to be fully the case, even if this version does have a Shield Saw that can be thrown around and then a Mecha Dragon we can ride out there in the world. All so the DOOM Slayer can do what they do best; kill demons. All in the usual way that the IP is well-known for with the ripping and the tearing. Here is our first look at the game with actual gameplay in its current form. Get ready to lose your mind and then find out you might have to wait another year to be able to get to experience all that this one has to offer up for us all.

DOOM: The Dark Ages — Announcement

Developed by id Software, DOOM: The Dark Ages is the prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal that tells the epic cinematic origin story of the DOOM Slayer’s rage.

In this third installment of the modern DOOM series, players will step into the blood-stained boots of the DOOM Slayer, in this never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is a single-player experience that delivers the searing combat and over-the-top visuals of the incomparable DOOM franchise, powered by the latest idTech engine.

As the ultimate super weapon of Gods and Kings, shred enemies with devastating favorites like the Super Shotgun while also wielding a variety of new bone-chewing weaponry, including the versatile Shield Saw.

Players will tear across the demon-infested battlefields in the vicious, grounded combat the original DOOM is famous for. Take flight atop the new fierce Mecha Dragon and stand tall in a massive Atlan mech as you beat titanic demons to a pulp.

Launching 2025. Wishlist on Xbox GamePass, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or PlayStation 5.

After seeing all of that, I am insanely excited to see where DOOM: The Dark Ages takes the IP and what else it has to offer up to us. Even though it does not sound like this is a blast into the past, it is fun to see how the weapons in the game will lean into some of the more primitive aspects of things. Like grinding up skulls to give us bone shards to rapidly fire and things like that. Then there is the shield that will be able to do more than just block and stun. It does have a chainsaw around the edges of it, so that will be nice to have while throwing it around like Captain America. I only wish we had a chance to see more of the DOOM-style of kills in the montage of gameplay we had here, but I am okay waiting a little more to get all of those in my eye holes.

Were you expecting to hear about another DOOM title on the way or did you think the IP was going to take a break for a bit? Do you think we are actually going to go back into a Dark Ages setting or is that all just fun title and aesthetic looks while still giving the badass weapons we could not have back then? Will the shield always come back to us or will we need to find it after some of the unsuccessful throws we know that we will have in the middle of all of this chaos? Head down to the comment section to let us have those thoughts and then discuss it all. We are going to keep on bringing what we can for DOOM: The Dark Ages, so please keep on checking in on the site for all of those updates and the many others we have chambered.
