Assassin’s Creed
The next Assassin’s Creed is fully revealed as we get to see more of what Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to bring to the IP
The massive reveal for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally here and we are getting to see the IP head deep into the Japanese location that so many have wanted. It feels odd that it took Ubisoft this long to head there, and that they have another codenamed Jade still, but on November 15th those looking to make that journey will be able to do it on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. They will not be going alone either, as this Assassin’s Creed title will be giving us two assassins to play with, and both feel like they are bringing something massively different to the table based on how we all want to play the game.
Let us dive into the cinematic reveal that we have had for Assassin’s Creed Shadows right out of the gate. A reveal that shows us that we are heading to a 16th-century Japan where the Creed will be making another rise. This time using a real-life historical samurai named Yasuke. This would be the samurai of African descent that we have seen teased so many times in media and many will soon get to see and experience a version of the historical figure. As long as this Assassin’s Creed title opts to go with more historical representations of the era and lands than the fantasy that we have seen before. Maybe that is where our other assassin will come in.

Full gameplay reveal in June 2024.
In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan.
From chaos to purpose, from darkness to light. A new Creed rises over Japan.
Now that you have been teased properly for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we can dive into the other character we will have in the game with Naoe. This is a shinobi character that will lean more into the stealth aspects of the game while Yasuke will be more of the brute force option. Not a terrible mix of things, but it is weird that only the shinobi will have the Hidden Blade on their character. Maybe this is to keep things more accurate where they need to be, but it feels off for an Assassin’s Creed title to do that. Given that they are opposite sides of the coin, maybe that will be part of the lesson they learn going through the events to be more forceful and the other to be a little more cunning.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows — Cinematic
Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place in 16th-century Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama era. Players will play as two distinct characters, a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and – in a series first – a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke.
Game Director Charles Benoit and Associate Narrative Director Brooke Davies dive deep into who these characters are, how they differ from a gameplay and narrative perspective, and why they were the perfect fit for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Is this what you were expecting from this Assassin’s Creed title or did you think it was going to only be a shinobi character out there? Will having two assassins work in the IP and did they learn the lessons from the past about all of this? How close to the true history will they stick to this game and how often will literary license be used to add in some of the more fantastical elements of the IP? Sneak on down to the comment section to let us all know your thoughts on this and then feel free to discuss it all. There should be more to come for Assassin’s Creed Shadows very soon, so please keep an eye on the site for all of that and everything else that is still to come.
