System Shock
The console release for the System Shock remake is coming for us to give System Shock more life
Last year, PC gamers had their chance to experience what the System Shock remake was going to bring us all and soon we will get to see it all on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The console version of the game is finally wrapping up and Nightdive Studios is giving it to us all on May 21st. Both in a digital and a physical version of the game for those who need different options for System Shock. Even if it does feel odd to look for a physical version of the game given the premise of the digital space it is all going to be offering up. If you know… you know. Those who do not will just need to check out the game.
In addition to the release date and different options to pick up the System Shock remake, it does look like some versions will be different than others. Like the fact that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will offer a better visual quality for us all to experience in the game. Something that many of the PC gamers out there have already had access to, but given the different hardware, it is worth noting. Along with the new voice acting for those who want to experience System Shock with a female-presenting hacker instead of the traditional male-presenting one we have had since the game first launched. A nice little touch out there, for sure.
System Shock — Console Release Date
The award-winning System Shock remake, based on the iconic 1994 sci-fi action game, comes to consoles on May 21, 2024 — featuring an expanded ending, a new female hacker protagonist, and more!
Nightdive Studios’ stunningly faithful recreation of the classic shooter/immersive sim was released to critical acclaim in 2023 for PC. Soon, console players will go toe-to-toe with SHODAN — the original rogue AI with evil intent — on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, and Series X|S as they explore the dark depths of Citadel Station and singlehandedly try and save Earth from destruction.
The System Shock remake combines the gameplay of the original title with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and all-new sounds and music. The console release features numerous improvements and the addition of a revised ending and optional female hacker protagonist.
System Shock Key Features:
- Unravel the chilling story of SHODAN’s rise and explore the mysteries of Citadel Station, piecing together the truth in this atmospheric sci-fi world
- Face perilous traps, puzzles, and a legion of hostile and mutated creatures — created and controlled by the delightfully villainous SHODAN herself
- Up to 4K 60FPS visuals on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
- The console release features a newly reworked ending that upgrades the final confrontation with SHODAN!
- Choose between a male or female-presenting Hacker protagonist
- Redesigned controls to support PlayStation and Xbox gamepads
System Shock releases on May 21, 2024, and will be available in both physical and digital formats on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be released in digital format only on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
I was never able to get around to playing the System Shock remake on the PC, but I am certainly setting time aside to do so on the consoles. It looked like the teams took all kinds of steps to make this thirty-year-old game feel like it fits in the modern day, and I think that is worth at least some time. Not to mention that it is a title that helps spawn so many other massive hits out there while also being a great experience in its own right. May 21st is not firmly planted in my calendar and the days will tick away as I get ready to experience what the System Shock remake has to offer the console world. Most likely in the digital space.
Did you have to wait for the console version of the System Shock remake to come or did you play it on the PC last year? Will you be looking to get those 4K visuals going or will you try to get it back to the glory days of the 90s to get the right look? Are you going to try the new female-presenting hacker in this run to try to mix things up from before? Head down to the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else that we have to offer for the title. If we get more to share for the System Shock remake, know that it will be added to the site. Just be sure to keep on checking in for those updates and the many others we have on the way to you all.
