Mortal Kombat
One more Mortal Kombat character is back in the mix for Mortal Kombat 1 with Geras getting a debut
Just when we thought we were going to have a lull for Mortal Kombat 1, a new fighter comes onto the scene with a smashing new trailer to behold. A new fighter for this entry but one that NetherRealm Studios has already given to us before. Here we go with Geras coming back from Mortal Kombat 11 to show more of what he is made of as well as make sure Lui Kang is keeping the peace as was dictated in some off-screen conversation. That is the long and short of what we have in the story here for this before the game hits the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC on September 19th. This is a good thing to keep us all guessing how it will all play out.
Now that we have the story out of the way, we can look at how Geras might be changed up in Mortal Kombat 1 here. Although, it does not look like it is going to be all that much when it comes to how he functions in the fight. There will be a lot of grabbing and time manipulation, which completely works for the character once again. I will say that having the sand wall to throw someone into after they fail a hit is rather funny to see. The team also feels like they are leaning into some of the work they did with The Flash in one of their other titles when it comes to how his X-ray move lands. It is more fitting for Mortal Kombat, sure, but has that same feel of time travel so there are two Geras slamming the same opponent into themself. Not sure that would work, but this is not fully based in reality, so who cares.

There is a quick blink-and-you-miss-it moment in the trailer where it looks as if there could be one more fighter shown for Mortal Kombat 1 here. In the scene where the team walks through a portal and Johnny Cage is using his cell phone, you can spot an unnamed character in the background. Normally, this would be ignored as an NPC in the game, but Ed Boon recently made a little bit of a stir about that character on their social media accounts, so it could be something. That or it could just be Mr. Boon trolling those looking for anything before Mortal Kombat 1 drops. I am hoping it is the latter since that character does look a little more mundane when compared to everyone else. Only time will tell…
Are you excited to see Geras back from Mortal Kombat 11 or were you looking to get a different character back in the mix? More for Mortal Kombat 1 is certainly on the way to us all, so please keep checking back in for all of those updates and many, many more.
