Fans of the Super Mario RPG will be excited with the announcement that Super Mario RPG Remake is coming this year

There has been a whole lot of hope that we might be able to see Super Mario RPG back out there again, and now I am glad to say out of the latest Nintendo Direct, a remake is coming. Yes, it looks as if this classic and under-appreciated title from the past is on its way back out there from Nintendo for us all to enjoy. We are also not talking as in we will have to wait a long time to see it either. The Super Mario RPG remake is on its way to the Switch on November 17^th of this year. You definitely read that correctly. Unless, of course, there are any delays that crop up between now and then.

For those that might not be up on Super Mario RPG, this was a title that was a collaboration between Nintendo and Square, before it was Square Enix. This was out there to capitalize on the growing popularity of the Final Fantasy line they had and the love of Super Mario that was already there. Not the most likely of bedfellow, but it was a solid game back when it launched. A solid turn-based RPG that gave us a little more story to the world and some impressive visuals for the time it launched. It was 1996 for the first time, so there is a little salt that needs to be taken with all of that when we say impressive visuals.

For the Super Mario RPG remake, though, it looks like they are taking what made the original amazing and expanding on it. That and giving us the visuals of the game that we had locked in our minds almost twenty years ago. Here we will get to see Mario, Bowser, Peach, and a few original characters team up to save the Mushroom Kingdom from a new threat out there. All while keeping most of what made Super Mario RPG the fun it was before. Like, actually being able to push the confirm button a second time to make a hit strike harder in the game. If you did not know where that ideology came from, this was the title that made it popular.

Of course, there are the usual worries for remakes when it comes to Super Mario RPG. It is hard to say at this point if things like the story or most of the setting will be altered to capture a modern audience more than hit the nostalgia feels. If the teams do it correctly, it will slam both of those and maybe let the IP carry on into the missing sequel many have wanted since 1996. I know I was always hoping for a Super Mario RPG 2 or something like it to come out. Maybe this will be the chance it gets while giving us all a game we have been playing through emulation for a while now. Only time will tell and I know November is going to take too long to get here now.
